Storm Poly, an unusual summer storm on Weds 5th July 2023

Named by the Central group it seems, maybe by German DWD. Although it was the Netherlands that was battered on the 5th by hurricane force gusts causing major travel disruption in the morning. Schipol airport just about shut, roads large and small blocked by fallen trees.

Germany is bracing itself for summer wind storm #Poly for the rest of the day, with Denmark keeping a keen eye but mostly expecting heavy rain. KNMI is the Netherlands met service and is in the storm naming group with UK Met Office and Met Eireann (Ireland) who have yet to name any storms this season. And even with a red this morning at 7am , still nothing.

I am currently staying in Cadzand bad in Netherlands.  And i can say yes it has been very windy.  Rain came through last night and the wind has been very noisey.  We are in a modern flat overlooking the sea and on tge sea front the sand has felt like little needles being pushed into your skin.

I'm off to Den Bosch in the Netherlands in 10 days time. I really hope the weather will be decent enough for outdoor pursuits and not as awful as we are having in the UK right now.

The cool northerly flow is taking the edge off any sunshine for the UK, with a scattering of heavy showers. For the Netherlands, there are yellow wind warnings from KNMI with gusts of 50-60mph.

UV levels are high but in the wind and rain, it does feel chilly.
