This was one the worst gales of  to hit southern parts of the UK during the 1930s, it was particular vicious as it occured so early in the autumn when many trees were still in leaf.

Scilly Isles: 96

Lizard: 92

Manston: 92

Cardington: 88

Pembroke: 85

Calshot: 81

Larkhill: 80

Lympne: 77

Dover: 72

Croydon: 69

Manchester: 68

Central London: 67

Birmingham: 63

Cranwell: 62

Yarmouth: 60

 

As  many as 40 trees were uprooted/damaged on one street in Leciester.  Trees fell across many roads and  numerous railways caused chaos. There was extensive damage to phone lines. High tides caused flooding damage to a number of coastal towns such as  Birkenhead, Bournemouth.

9 people were reported to have lost their lives to the gales
