On the 4th October 1923, a vicious compact low tracked across southern parts of the UK bringing a short period of damaging severe gales across South Wales (Swansea area was particularly hit), SW England, the south coast and the neighbouring French / Belgian Channel coasts.  An 82mph gust was record at Lyme Regis.

A new grandstand built at Plymouth Albion's football ground was destroyed.
