Hi I am after recommendations for a new weather station as a present for hubby. He had a Besser 5 in 1 which recently stopped working.

It would be nice to be able to link up with weather sites to provide info.

Colour screen would be ideal and should I opt for Solar powered outdoor unit?

It's a minefield out there so any help greatfully received.

Thank you

MJP

For this price I would normally say Davis Vantage Vue, but I didn't realise how expensive they are now, especially with the tablet console - £600! You can probably find one with the older console under £500 but it is archaic now.

Failing that, one of the ecowit stations perhaps, though I'm not too clued up on those.

Watson 8686 £170 from Nevada Radio is an Ecowitt clone, mine replaced a Yoshiko and has been faultless for the past 2 years and streams via a base station to the MetOffice, WU, Ecowitt and WeatherCloud

I want something like this but haven't got a stained glass windowing clue about how to set the thing up - physically ...

I followed the instructions and found it easy enough. For an 84-year-old man.

Mount it on a standard aerial pole attached to a fence post (use a compass to find N to align the station). Hit reset on the unit after putting batteries in and it immediately 'talks' to the base station. Follow the instruction manual and it's very straightforward to calibrate and get data on to your chosen sites

Omg that sounds amazing. Wished I had waited now and gone for the Watson. I've gone for an Ecowitt HP2553 TFT 7" Display, 6-in-1 Ultrasonic Wind & Rain Sensor × 1 at about £100 more than your Watson suggestion. It's a Christmas Present so hope it will be ok 🤞
