The start of December 1948 was exceptionally mild

18.3°C at  Achnashellach

13.9°C at Manchester

13.6°C at Keele

12.8°C at Bidston

 

 

3rd December

16.7°C at Hawarden

16.1°C at Weston-Super-Mare

14.4°C at London Weather Centre, Manchester,  Penzance, Torquay

13.9°C at Herne Bay, Penzance

12.8°C at Birmingham, Carlisle

12.2°C at Glasgow

11.1°C at Aberdeen

1948 holds 3 date records in a row 1st - 3rd though all were likely due to foehn. There's all 3 days on the same dates in 1985 though not date records all were in England (Devon/Surrey) which I would say is just as impressive for an early winter mild spell.

 Weather-history Apart from the 16 degrees above figures, these maxima today for early Dec are nothing that impressive. Indeed this Dec 1 likely to see widespread 12-14 degree maxes in many places.
