Strange sort of morning today, it wants to be mild and clear but its a bit cool and a low cloud trying to be fog is greying the sky. it reminds me of a spring morning where the low cloud burns off quickly and temps rise.

12C with a slack southerly breeze currently

@MAF doesn't feel anywhere near that warm  I'm cold and need gloves, been the same since this so called warm spell started. Felt warmer before this.

My verdict on the models currently can be summed up in one word - uninspiring.

Some of the GFS ensembles look quite interesting after about 10 days but when don't they?

Looking at the means seems to indicate a slow drift down to average temperatures by the second week of February. Which is something I guess. Meanwhile we are stuck in the weather equivalent of purgatory. Mildish, cloudy nothingness 😴

Currently 10.2 degrees and, you guessed it, cloudy.

The weather here yesterday was so springlike, sat in the sun in the garden having lunch, not even a coat on, never can i remember such an early springlike weather event. Today started very foggy, some sunshine now but only 11c compared to yesterday afternoon of 16c.

Just drove home from Reigate, about a 3 mile drive and the temperature went from up from 10 to 13. Very mild evening.

@Sparky68 yes very mild here as well 8.7 currently but was 10.2 at 3 o'clock this morning!

Still people in the model thread hanging their hats on all the things that have been very poor indicators of the actual weather this winter, teleconnections, the MJO, EC46, the long range met office outlook etc. Apparently they all indicate a wintry second half of February. I remain completely sceptical. But time will tell.

Does anyone else feel it's mild? Got home yesterday and the house was cold, even with heating on. walked to work this morning and felt cold in the breeze; yet temps are much higher than the other week and i don't feel any warmer. Or is it just me? 🙂

There was some weather brewing in the MOD thread but has now been dumped in favour of no weather for the foreseeable future.

Temperature has been slowly falling since about 4 this morning from 10.3 down to 7.4 now. It even, dare I say it, feels a bit cold out.

@Swave Snow pah! Sorry guys this new system seems to have its own ideas and will not let you erase names and this was the only way I could think of to clear it 🤞 @lassie23

Bit cold here too, feels colder than when we had sub-zero temps a week back. Even though graph says temperature is 7.2c

lassie23 Be careful how you answer this 😉 Are you the reason for my 'funny turn' ? OR Are you feeling a bit cold? lol

Sounds as if the models have got interesting. Maybe time to get excited and go have a read through the thread 😀

lassie23 if they stopped looking for one type of weather and started analysing charts properly for what they actually show, I might join in more. Some good posters there including our Eagle eye, but the moaners hunting for cold/or heat in summer just ruin the whole thing for me.

Totally agree with the above, Alexis. 👍

I used to post a lot in the Model Discussion Thread but stopped doing so, for the very reasons you quote.

Plus your comments about Eagle Eye are very true.

I would also include our own Nick Finnis, Nick Sussex and Captain Shortwave, above all others on the Model Discussion Thread.

Regards,

Tom Q. 👍

alexisj9 Max today was 10.7C but like many others have commented, it felt much colder than that.  Once you got cold today, it was difficult to get warm again.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
