Thoroughly wet morning thanks to the horrible wet NW'ly streamer. Ugh!
-
Someone give me five minutes in a locked room with that tool Nathan Rao. His ludicrous scaremongering and frankly irresponsible articles have actually frightened a few members of my extended family (who happen to be of advanced years) and it took me all of this morning to convincingly reassure them that these articles are utterly over the top rot.
Inaccurate articles are one thing, articles which actually frighten the vulnerable and ill-informed are another thing altogether.
Rao deserves a good shoeing. Absolutely fuming he gets away with it time and time again.

Just the sound of this would be terrifying
Am I seeing lightning flashes? No point listening for thunder if so......

Watching that made me feel sick.

Torrential shower just passed here, huge puddles left in its wake...not electrified though.

I'm seeing some patches of yellow in the trees already, perhaps due to the severe lack of sunshine.
Trees definitely on the turn here. Some of them have a distinctly autumnal look. So August has been a shocker. Who'd a thought it? Definitely becoming par for the course as I am struggling to recall the last time we had a really good one.

It was the loudest I've heard here
I couldn't blame some for thinking it was a bomb or explosion the sound went on for a good 15 to 20 seconds
Like what we had here last week. +CG's with an explosion followed by a rumble that went on for 30+ seconds.
Still over 90 strikes per minute with a few now appearing in Cumbria.

Along with the sferic activity, large rainfall rates ongoing across Northern Ireland...

The first bang you hear in this clip is fairly typical of what I was hearing last night..

Well...well.
Talk about unexpected. Many, many reports around my local area (several miles apart) of the thunder "shook my house".."sounded like a plane had crashed".."like a bomb had gone off"...being unusually loud. When I heard the first boom, I assumed the strike had been within a mile of my location. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was over 5 miles away!
This occurred a few more times..relatively distant strikes (4-6 miles away) but explosive booming thunder.
Positive strikes?

That lot is over Chester and Flintshire way towards Queensferry

Model Output Discussion - cold spell to end Autumn

I think a forecast of 2-5cm snow depth could well be wide of the mark for areas which are prone to the Cheshire Gap streamer. I know from experience, living in a prime spot for that streamer, that 10cm+ can be lying even at modest levels of elevation.
