  1. That's probably because, even though I'm only 15 miles down the road from you, I've already had two quite decent storms in the past week - one of which was overnight was overnight so double trouble. I still think there's a possibility for today, but I like your method of thinking; always think negative and you'll never be disappointed. :doh:

    Negative? nahhhh....realistic :lol:

  2. I'll be in Nottingham the weekend...I bet Bridgnorth has some whoppers of storms while I'm away :doh:

    Oh and just incase people get there knickers in a twist, My comment on moving SE ish - is not Midlands vs SE argument.

    Sun is comming out here...

    Stand ready you guys in the South East...there's a mass exodus of storm starved loonies from North East Wales, Shropshire, Nottinghamshire and anywhere else I may have missed heading your way.

  3. Give it time Carl, it's still only just turned 2.30pm so there's plenty of time yet.

    In any case, that thunder I heard again about 30 minutes ago was a solo act; the cell decayed as it moved over just giving a dumping of rain. Looked quite menacing with scud running across the base of the cloud though.

    I admire your optimism Paul...but the last few days have completely crushed what optimism I did have.

  4. ive just seen a flash of lightning to my west :) unfortunately the storm is just missing here.

    You'll be out of the NSC before the end of today...if not today then tomorrow for sure. I'll be keeping your place for 2010 reserved for you.

    Way things are going I'll be the last sodding member of the club whistling to myself as we go into 2010

  5. Just found out from me brother that there's a storm moving in from the West here. Looks quite nasty and I've just heard some thunder meself. One to keep an eye on.

    Edit: Actually looking at the radar it's going North. Still, we're getting quite a few rumbles out it, and they sound pretty nasty. Shaun L, keep an eye on this. Hearing lots of thunder now.

    You lucky pup...enjoy.

  6. Low cloud is clearing away, revealing some impressive anvil-formation out towards the east...

    I feel pretty secure in my belief that my membership in the NSC will still be active after today...yes there are some pretty sizable radar echoes to the south west of me but their predecessors died a death before reaching me....and I reckon that will continue.

    Not had so much as a drop of rain yet.

    In fact...I'm reasonably confident...call it a hunch...that I will see a completely dry day....Insane?...maybe...like I said..just a hunch.

  7. I have to say that the hot spell in general was a disappointment in more ways than one for me.

    * The lack of thunderstorms

    * Almost intolerable humidity

    * No real dry days..it rained nearly every day of the spell at one time or another, and when it was dry it was often cloudy.

    A proper hot spell in my book is several days of hot unbroken sunshine with the humidity gradually increasing towards the end of the hot spell, which is finally broken with a bang from a proper Spanish Plume delivering big thunderstorms from late evening well into the night over sizable parts of the country.

    Very disappointing

  8. Strange I think we must be stuck between the front to the west over wales and the rain in the midlands, just a dark sky, and no rain...

    Last night was a close call a storm that got to Wrexham went up out over Wales less that 20 miles from here... gutted!

    If its any consonlation...you didnt really miss anything...two flashes.two rumbles and that was it!
