  1. thanks, i now have to hound people for that sponser money problem is i am 45 now and was still trying to keep up with some of the younger superfit cyclists with their godzilla like thighs, so i burned out a bit, just enjoying a huge slab of walnut cake and pot of tea now if there was thunder here today i bloody missed it again, that would be 4 thunder days this week here and i missed all of them
  2. did the manchester to blackpool charity bike ride this morning got caught in a rather long torrential downpour on route (at leyland) there was no thunder heard though, just arrived home and the roads are flooded, wonder if there was thunder and lightning here, anyone in wigan area heard thunder ? BTW my legs are shot at
  3. That was filmed just down the road from where I live, I was at work and missed it
  4. Thats just a couple of miles from where i live, I was at work in St Helens when that storm developed over me, it produced one flash and rumble, then as it head towards Wigan and Bolton it became more active, I could hear many distant rumbles. Thats been the story for the last three days, Cb's started to build over me at work then become thundery as they moved over to where ! live, Damn it, why could they not wait till i get home
  5. there is time for the south east yet, I bet you get your thorms later, dont lose sleep over though not much hope here , although I did here 1 rumble from a distant cb over the merseyside area yesterday, that was my ration for a while
  6. Just been for a cycle ride along the canal and could see the anvil and structure of that cell in the far distance the visiblity is good today. I guessed it was over the stoke on trent area so not that far out, Heard a few rumlbles and saw 1 flash in a downpour when i was at salford quays this afternoon, some hail well
  7. heard one very distant rumble to my north ,very well defined bubbling cauliflower tops in that direction with dark bases
  8. well i suppose i should not be too angry at yesterdays damp squib as we got a small storm here during the evening, but the frequency of the thunder and lightning went less as it came overhead, to just one flash every five minutes after sounding like it was going to be a bit of a corker as it was approaching , but it was better than nothing, Feel sorry for thunder lovers who have seen nothing again, I used to be jealous of the south easterners for the amount of storms there, but it seem we are having more in the last couple of years, seems a chance again today for this area, lets see
  9. latest bbc weather forcast had the presenter still harping on about thundery showers everywhere...oh shut up
  10. can hear the unmistakable sound of growling distant thunder to the south
  11. i hate to sound negative but i think this high thunderstorm risk for us here has been over hyped, last nights imports did make it here overnight but it was just moderate rain by then, with no lightning, i fear the same gain. Those cells just to the south look weak ans are fizzling
  12. looking more promising here now, sun out, temps up, bubbling cumulus, and cells developing to my south, fingers crossed, opening the window now just in case i can hear any distant growls not getting to much hope though
  13. still dull and overcast here, been spells of moderate rain earlier this afternoon but thats gone, apparently i am in the risk zone for a thunderstorm, but it does not look convincing, feels slighty humid but not that much, i can see brighter skies now to south as i am typing this, lets hope any storms that brew in the midlands drift towards north west england later
  14. I think we have not done too bad for thunder here the past few years, we normally miss a lot of the cells that develop inland, they usually form over the midlands then move northeast into lincs or yorkshire toward the north sea coast Although last year we got a monster storm with constant thunder, when i opened the back window to take a look i could not believe it, no breaks between the rumbles and it lasted a good while, then came another of similar intensity, i think it was backbuilding, I hope we get another like that
  15. Actually i just thought i saw a very distant flash to the north but cant be sure, ah well, off to make some crumpets and coffee (decaf) for supper lets hope for more tommorrow
  16. Its all over here now, even the rain, the wind was gusty after the lightning but even that has dropped
  17. since typing my post the thunder and lightning has stopped ,i think i have jinxed it
  18. Nice lightning show over to the south of wigan, lots of pink fork lightning looks great against the dusk sky
  19. Hi everyone dont post here that often ,but the lack of thunderstorms now is really baffling me, can anyone really explain why they are so rare now? Whats changed so much in the last 10-20 years, we would get about 10 thunder days per year and a least 2 or 3 nighttime displays with that as well almost every year for certain, now we might get 2 or 3 per whole year and thats if you are lucky. We have had one weak nightime storm and it now july ! Normally we would have has about 4 or 5 storms by now, in the eighties when it became humid a storm was inevitable, does not seem to work like that now , WHY ?? I want my storm fix ! I have a feeling 2010 will be thunderless from now on. and the same next year. could the air be heavier due to more co2 (less lift) just a thought.
  20. woken up by loud thunder and very bright lightning during the night. On the way to work in St helens this morning another storm, very close CG strikes and intense rain.
  21. I heard a grand total of one rumble of thunder about half an hour ago,so that was 'wednesdays storm' then.
  22. That interesting looking line of showers have well and truely arrived here, looked threatening as it approached from a distance ,but now its here its just grey and overcast with moderate rain. There is no thunder either, very dissapointing yet again
  23. decent storm here just after lunchtime. torrential rain. and some good rumbles. A CG bolt came down into a field about 1/4 mile away, souned like a large bomb
  24. I drove straight through that in Chorley on my way home from Preston on the m61. It looked liked a thunderstorm as I was approaching <_< .You didn.t miss much actually just some boring moderate/heavy rain, didnt see any lightening/thunder.
  25. looked stormy here a short while ago with very dark purple clouds to my west with some impressive towering cumulus ahead of it,thought something interesting was about to happen. But it was just moderate rain when it arrived.I should have kown better hehe
