  1. A few years ago , we were led to believe thundery activity would increase, you know, with GW and all that, Not going to plan is it Its decreasing, significantly
  2. Yes to the south of me, grew out of nowhere and its going westerly, looked thundery, but nothing in it, yet
  3. I am baffled by this shield in south west lancs, north cheshire, its as though elecrical activity is not allowed here anymore, it never used to be like this, there is a force field here I tell ya Just has a CB develop close with some brief heavy rain, nothing electrical of course , and I am not expecting anything later either
  4. You can always tell when a CB is a severe TS by the dome in the middle of the anvil as shown, I wish I was under that, Dammit I am emigrating to France
  5. That pic from the plane is fantastic, looks like loads of A bombs,
  6. Bizzare that the North East managed to get thunderstorms from a rain belt coming straight across that long expanse of North Sea And yet yesterday a line of storms formed over the pennnines and started to move to my area late afternoon with the suns heat still having an affect and yet they still fizzle as they get here grrrrrrr Even people in the Cheshire void got a taster of something, and to the North Cumbria and Lancs got a bit I am beginning to think its me , I have unintentional power to prevent thunder occurring if it tries to get anywhere within 20 miles of me Yesterday was a good example, I even had a drive east to run into the storms as I knew they would diminish before they get here, my thinking was if you wont come to me I will come to you , but alas only got a brief downpour, saw nothing again When I looked at the radar the part of the line that I' punctured' was just green and blue, the red 'thundery' area seem to part and most of it go more north as I was there , convinced its me now apart from one distant rumble on thursaday this so called thundery spell has give me nothing, I am giving up now and putting myself in the NSC ....rant over
  7. Bury is only about 17 miles north east from here did you get any from that line of storms yesterday, they suddenly lost their thunder on approaching my area, saw and heard nothing but the rain was still torrential I am expecting the same to happen
  8. any electrification will just get shredded and destroyed as it hits the north west shield, like yesterday
  9. I can usually see distant lightning from storms over Cheshire at night(when they were more common) just had a few looks out of the side window but nothing, going to bed now
  10. Like all the other thundery showers that have been heading our way it will start to fizzle away before it gets anywhere near here,
  11. there is still convective activity out there, just had an intense shower for a couple of minutes, no lightning ,of course
  12. And its voted as having the best skyline in the UK outside of London on another forum by a long way
  13. I dont think its as bad as some places, we did get at least 1 beast per year on this side of town (Hindley) with a couple of other thundery showers but year is shocking here if you like thunder , I think 2010 was the last decent year for here anyway, Oh how i remember the seventies with regular night lightning storms here, and they were still rumbling in the distance in the morning, I dont care what anyone says the climate has shifted, Never never get things like that now
  14. But what bugs is when they move from west to east the pennines dont affect them and they go on to turn thundery Here we are with an east to west movement, with lots of land to travel over so as not to lose their electification, but they still do, it really is as though there is some sort of thunder and lightning repeller over this side Then again looking a the lightning map it did get across to cumbria, but miraculously stops before it gets to the populated parts of the north west, no surprise there
  15. Looks like we were about to get a storm about 20 mins ago, then the rain started, very heavy for a while but no thunder or lightning, its as though thunder is not allowed anymore, was very surprised. i have seen a few thunder storms approach years ago and this had all the hallmarks , very humid, defined shelf cloud, very vey dark, and you could see the sheer height of the anvil / convection on approach , but still no thunder , what the heck does it take thesedays. From experience you nearly always hear thunder before the rain starts, thats when I knew it was game over when the rain came, no thunder now
  16. I could see the whole cumulonimbus structure from that to my east, was hoping it would come my way, however I did hear a few deep rumbles from a storm west of my location at about 4.30 pm which had an impressive cauliflower head
  17. Have you been to the pub at the end of the runway were the wing tips of the bigger planes almost come over the top of the fence in the beer garden, spent a few warm summer afternoons there watching plane after plane queue up then getting a bit of jet blast as you have a beer Bet you were wishing you on one to sunnier climes whilst there
  18. Thats what mildies where thinking in winter , mild all the way then , a brutal cold spell in feb to finish off I suspect the same thing for summers, cool wet all the way then a short but intense heat in late August or September, (or maybe not)
  19. I have not know anything like this prolonged coolness in spring and summer, Is this coolest period April to July on record,? it seems it
  20. Relatively speaking it is cold/cool, if this was spring or autumn it would be classed as mild but for high summer its cold , not sure what you mean by a 'bit' wetter, I would say a lot wetter
  21. Just posted a little moan about the weather on another (non weather) forum, but some numpties on there think its not really cold ,at all, and implying the weather is normal
  22. but then we didnt have the modern summer to contend with I am feeling pessimistic , hope I am wrong
  23. 1st of July and yes the central heating goes on just like so many times in June,I wake up to a cold grey drizzly scene YET AGAIN, it feels wintery. I dont care what statistics anyone throws up, this IS the worst summer of my 40 years of memory the last few have been getting worse, culminating in this vileness we have to endure. god help us next year, but can it actually get any worse?surely not, but it can be just the same, which it probably will I am considering emigrating, but realistically its out of the question ATM , the UK weather depresses me now
  24. I think North East is becoming the UK captital for storms,I have Mixed feelings about today here, got a torrential thundery shower, but saw no visible lightning, but hey I am in the North West so I should count myself lucky I got something
