  1. thing is jane, snow here is even more rare than thunder, seeing them both togther is about as likely as me wining the euromillions when i dont even do it this area is a weather vacuum, apart from the mundane stuff, believe me we get plenty of that
  2. we are usually too far west here in many thundery setups , but in these situations too far east, this really is no mans land for thundery activity,
  3. the clouds here seem to be moving south to north, i assume this will push any thundery showers if they form into scotland rather than the NW of england ?
  4. The only glimmer of hope for some crumbs is a very slight chance of seeing some flashes out west tonight, but I think its a long shot that one, not really expecting to see anything TBH, or maybee a rumble or two on Wednesday , but not getting any hopes for that either ...oh well,
  5. does this mean there is a chance of seeing some dusk lightning over the Irish sea like a few weeks ago from North West England ?
  6. But what takes the biscuit is we still got the moderate nuisance factor showers, whilst the rest of england got multiple storms, and today we still have the nuisance factor drizzle showers whilst the rest of england has decent weather for outdoor activities today, I have just abandoned my 50 mile bike ride as I just cant be bothered in this miserable drizzarable weather Just to add, this has been the worst year for storms here ever, there have been NO overhead storms at all, just a couple of days have given distant rumbles and a distant lightening show a few weeks ago, RUBBISH some people (in the usual areas) saw more storms in one day (yesterday) than I have for 2 years
  7. you got distant rumbles ,that would have been a significant weather event in Wigan
  8. He says ...just as the sky darkens to my south west, just a moderate shower though
  9. Absolutely nothing thundery will happen in the NW now as per usual, any remote chance has moved east anyway
  10. What are the chances for next Wednesday in the NW, the BBC put a yellow zig zag on my post code 6 day forecast for Wednesday , should I buy into it, not convinced one little bit.
  11. There hasn't been many at all, the last was a dusk storm in april 2011 after the mini heatwave, i have seen the odd distant flash but its very rare, so the other week was a nice treat to see an hour or so of lightning , even though it was over 25 miles away or more it was reasonable vivid with blue, purple and even a greenish tinge to some flashes
  12. my experience is that the only time the Irish sea generates its own storms is in late Autumn if there are cold uppers coming in on a pM airflow associated with low pressure over the still relatively warm sea, but these tend to be weak electrically for some reason but very torrential
  13. Yes even 1 strike per minute is regarded as amazing over these parts, especially at night, I saw 40 plus flashes but non near enough to hear the thunder, Infact to prove how rare this event was some of the younger generation were baffled by it and though it was something to do with a meteor shower, my facebook page was full of....OMG what was that weird flashing in the sky last night etc. when I was a kid we knew exactly what night lightning was as it seemed far more common
  14. You have every right to be negative, we live in one of the worst parts of the UK for T storm activity , even when they are forecast for here they very rarely happen , so you do become weary and sceptical when you hear the word thunder in forecasts, because 95% of the time there is no thunder. Today showed animated lightning on the TV forcast over south Lancs and Cheshire, i just laughed and dismissed it....... and who was right yet again
  15. most have given up. I am not buying into this widespead thunderstorm day , just some sporadic moderate showers for us i bet
  16. no doubt everthing will miss this area as per usual, if any thunderstorms do try to come here they WILL be vaporized by the Wigan triangle
  17. And was naive to think I might( just might) catch the edge of a thunder shower today. just patchy light drizzle here , overcast and 18c not a cat in hells chance
  18. woken by a couple of flashes and rumbles here during the night, didnt amount to much though
  19. to be honest i didnt even expect anything electical, one flash is a bit of a joke though,ah well at least we got that 90 minute night distant lightning show on monday , cant see any more electrical here tonight, but on a rare occasion i could be wrong
  20. saw one flash about 15 minutes ago, nothing since, just as the cartoons say at the end,,thats all folks.
  21. Did you not see the lightning over southport blackpool way , it was only a flash a minute on average, a little more at times but it lasted well over an hour, lost count of the flashes, it was visible from west yorkshire apparantly
  22. Yet the BBC forecast this morning insisted in putting one of the those animated lightning symbols over the NW ,where do they get this mis-information from, surely not the met office !!
  23. animated lightning symbol just west of here on the BBC weather forecast earlier, cant see any thunderstorms happening anywhere near here , that would be a miracle, just plain light /moderate rain for an hour or two and boring featureless stratus , feel like ringing the bbc up and saying dont be silly with the lightning symbols
  24. just a wet and windy here this afternoon, but got torrential for a couple of minutes as the front passed, very similar to many a day in the washout june, very overrated event as they nearly always are
  25. unbelievable , I have overheard a few comments today from people asking whats was that strange flashing in the sky last night and comments like 'flashing lights in the sky' , that just proves how rare storms are now, joe public dont generally relate it to lightning . some claimed it was to do with the meteor shower and even aliens....good god
