  1. 25 % loss of wheat expected on top of the very poor harvest last year , due to wet summer and colder spring, if this change of climate carries on for a few more years there will be disastrous consequences for us all, relying on imports, prices will go through he roof, I thing some need to realise we need warmth at the right times for our food chain. Even imports are not immune from extreme and unusal climate conditions. Food rationing in the future? I think coldies who want extreme cold for most of the year should think about that, or get to the back of the queue when the rationing starts
  2. Will we pay for all this spring dryness with another very wet summer
  3. Seems to me like the temps at the weekend early next week are no mans land stuff, still below normal but not exactly the deep cold that some crave, just pointless cold/coolness, with the warmer temps now delayed until Wednesday or later.
  4. Despite being a mild lover I dont like very hot weather, just err mild , temps near average or just slightly above for the summer months would suite fine, and lots of convective type showers and thundery spells , but not the washout frontal rain from the Atlantic.
  5. The heatwaves have been thin on the ground, its seems we locked into long lasting cold, but not heat, why is this? Have we just been unlucky
  6. As far as I am concerned its already mild ! yes there is a nagging easterly but if you are in the sun and out of that wind its surprisingly warm and as you know its on its way out next week , yes it below normal but afternoon shade temps of 10c would be considered mild in mid winter . This is about as cold as it gets now for the time of year and its not that cold to me , (ice days are 'cold') , a gradual warming is taking place, sorry but you seem desperate for deep cold that brings ice and snow, not much of that is going to happen now maybee a light flurry at the weekend, but next December is not that long to wait
  7. I remember walking through Manchester city centre sometime in the very early '00's during mid April in a notable warm spell and there was a digital thermometer on the side of a building reading 28c , can you imagine that now in April, how things have changed,
  8. Nothings growing at he moment, watch a burst of blossom and all the daffs suddenly bloom in the showers and milder temps, its very much needed at least it will be....er 'mild'
  9. I can relate to TM post about extreme conditions giving excitment, it would be boring if the weather followed its 'expected' course, ie, cold in midwinter with snow, mild in spring with tepid sunshine and showers , hot and sunny in mid summer , then gales and rain in autumn, I am finding the cold temperatures this spring interesting, living in these so called warming times its as though nature is sticking two fingers up at the warming trend, just to show its still boss, we can draw our trend graphs but mother nature will say what happens. I also find it intersting when we get exceptional mild in winter, although many on here dont like it , its only the same situation as now...., Just a minute , this is not right , it should be much colder, But where my real excitment lies is for severe thunderstorms, snow and ice is mundane imo , give me rain and gales, golf ball hail stones and dangerous close lightning bolts any day over some soft powdery cold stuff known as snow. Then the beauty of seeing a distant cumulonimbus on a warm evening at dusk being illuminated with lots of lightning, knowing its heading in my direction, for me, is the ultimate in a weather fix ! . I know the type of weather I like can affect people badly, ie wind damage, flooding due to thunderstorms , etc, but then so does prolonged cold and snow, Its the downside to severe weather, but i suppose we are all being a little selfish when we want to see severe weather and not thinking how much it can affect people.
  10. I think some should move to the tundra , the deep winter long lasting snow is not going going to happen now, just tedious rather below average temps for the next two weeks in that the only thing they are doing is delaying spring growth and being an annoyance , Roll on next two weeks! Saying that its rather nice today
  11. I nearly made the mistake of saying first double digits! when we already had13c a few weeks back! ,but it seems so long ago Anyway, a week on Saturday for somwhere (6th April) 10th April for me
  12. On mainland UK Seeing as 20c could be over a month away, in the shorter term what date will we see the next double digits, surely it has to happen in the first 2 weeks of April, but will it?
  13. I am saying never ! , yes I want some warmer stuff too. but looking at the models its going to be a hard call to get 20c anytime in April at this rate, would this be a first? ie no 20c anywhere in UK before 1st May, A depressing thought
  14. Apparantly they are dying http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21933135
  15. we had blanket of lying snow yesterday morning, nothing now apart from a few clumps here and there where the drifts were, surprised how quick its gone given the air temps, but the sun did come out for 15 minutes this afternnon and did its work at melting the rest of it, i suspect the wind is having a slight thawing effect as well
  16. we will probably get normal march temps in may, and normal may temps in july its like its all two months behind atm

    Another 2006?

that was 2006,this is now, things have changed, expecting something like last summer , temps a littte below overall, a few warm spells, but surely not as as rainy, but who knows, No scorching summer, them days have gone, IMO of course
  18. No 20c before May 20th for my location , no 20c before April 20th for somewhere in UK
  19. Yes it's that time again, infact last year we had already achieved it by now, with spring delayed and no sign of any significant warm up, it will be inteersting to see peoples thought on the first 20c, it has to happen in the next 2 or 3 months somewhere in UK, or has it
  20. was the period dec1968 to march1969 generally colder than the winter we are having?
  21. Of course , I was only thinking recently that had these synoptics occured in Dec or Jan, it would be Dec2010 all over again but lasting even longer, it does not surprise me a severe spell is happening again so soon , In the coming winters of the next decade we could see some weather that will make us think we have been transported to siberia. it will get us big time soon ! the prediction that our winters could be more like scandanavian ones seems to be coming to fruition, the climate is shifting without a doubt in my mind
