  1. but are we not overdue an above average month, after the run of belows since last august,
  2. Now that the cold has arrived most have stopped moaning and the cold is a long awaited treat for most and I don't begrudge it,But on a personal level and being a mildly I am not impressed by the current conditions, I have not seen the sun since the start of this spell last weekend. Coldies always moan about the lack of sunshine in Atlantic based weather , but day after day its been leaden grey skies plus temperatures at 1c , At least in mobile Atlantic weather the sky can break and give sunshine and you can see the cloud formations . This is just tedious grey stratus. Just to add to my dislike, the snow is just a brown and grey slushy mess and making the streets look unsightly. at least we are on the right side of winter, I dont mind cold spells in Feb if they occur as spring is knocking on the door , March can bring winter weather too , but its rarely severe, and snow tends to be banished quick in any sun. Looking forward to spring now and cumulonimbus showers, blue sky and milder temperatures, Just off to watch some thunderstorm videos on you tube to transport me to summer, and forget about the grey cold slushy drabness outside
  3. There have been no above average CET months since August 2012 , and even that only just, the south of England was actually below in August. So now we are in 2013 will the trend of below average continue, Whats betting Feb will be below as well, I am finding this very interesting as how long this trend can be sustained, Surely things will have to even out ?
  4. Snow 4 month of the year would be horrific, but I suppose we would adapt , To be honest even though I take an interest in weather, I get bored of snow quick ,its fun watching a blizzard but I hate in when it sticks around for days, I am bored of the grey and white monotonous scenes already after one day, I want my colours back. I think it be be a week or two yet.
  5. I want to be in here as well ,however I don't want to be in the 'no storms club this year'
  6. well I have just put a statement in on the comments column that spring is here ! (joking) now watch an arctic blast with deep cold, ice and snow now appear very soon lol
  7. yes I remember that being a cold one now, I stick to the belief we are overdue an above average spell of temperatures, lets hope it comes in the summer months, i doubt it will come anytime soon, despite the mild....ish spell we are in. I would bet January will be below as well, could be wrong but I just have a feeling .
  8. I think Dec 2010 has led us to believe cold winters are back again, but are they, despite that month they have been fairly average overall IMO, well here anyway , I do agree with Village that we are long overdue a run of above average temperatures, but more so for the summer months
  9. Although we are into a milder spell, it might not be enough to tip the balance into an average or above average December, so thats September, October, November, and now likely December, below average, This after a coolish summer , I find it very interesting how long this below average trend will continue, in these so called warming times, just how long can it be sustained , I will find it rather funny and highly remarkable if January and February follow suit , then again I have a feeling they might just.
  10. agree with this as soon as an afternoon heavy shower arrives on what was a perfect sunny day up to that point some people start to moan and say what a rubbish day, even if it was just that one shower,
  11. Sure I heard a rumble very early this morning , but I was half asleep, heard nothing after but it was something that woke me .
  12. with all the doom and gloom among cold lovers after a tease, surely the models can change again on a whim and scupper the mild outlook .
  13. the elderly are most at risk in very cold weather not just because of cold, but flu and colds spread easier in cold weather, http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn12808-cold-weather-really-does-spread-flu.html I may be in a minority here but I welcome this upcoming milder spell, this cold weather is boring the hell out of me, roll on spring/ summer and the big showers/cloudscapes/ thunderstorms
  14. Severe cold will come at some point this winter. I am convinced (not that I personally want it ) but coldies should not give up yet , remember the mild winter of last year, then a potent snowy spell pop up as late as February, the snow didnt last long but if it had happened a little earlier , it might have been more protracted, the warming sun in late Feb didnt help , but it does go to show
  15. This reminds me of hotties looking for the blazing heatwaves in summer that nearly always get moderated down, Lets face it the UK has tepid temperatures for most of the time. Thank god I hate extreme temps, a true mildy so I am happy most of the time, I always give a sigh of relief when very hot, or very cold gets scuppered
  16. Putting the heating on is becoming an unaffordable luxury with those private bandits putting up prices significantly , lets hope its a mild winter to save some lives
  17. lovely day in wigan, warm october sunshine, sat outside in a t shirt with my coffee, as long as we can delay winter a bit more the better as far as I am concerned , although looking forward to some autumn gales,
  18. interesting map, dispels the myth that the south east is the storm capital, its actually a certain swathe through the midlands , followed by the north east,, the north west of england surpisingly does not fare too bad either but west wales , devon and cornwall are poor
  19. I was still watching todays warrington/manchester storm as I drove home from ST Helens through Haydock and Golborne ,it was like one of those storm chase vids on the american dual carriaways across the plains, good storm that I know its being greedy but is there still a chance for more in the north west this evening, been some large bubbling cumulus to my west,
  20. thats unfortunate, as the storm passed my location i witnessed a few visible cloud to cloud forks and a few cg , the cg's sounded boomy, the cc's sounded more crackley, and the mamatus formations where impressive, the second cell over warrington way displayed more visible strikes but more distant, and were every 30 secs or so and went on for an hour !
  21. I have seen more forks of lightning today than I have for the past two years combined
  22. that could have been the storm i watched earlier that moved toward Manchester, very visible strikes, non of this hidden intacloud stuff
  23. decent overhead storm whlist in St Helens, saw multiple fork lightning strikes and booming thunder, watched a second cell to the south with more vivid lightning move toward manchester, very good day not sure if wigan got anything overhead, suspect not
