  1. a bit late, but looking unlikely to be above average at the latest outputs , maybe around about average or a tad below 14.0c
  2. No heating yet, not quite cold enough, possible by october though, thats when British gas will start thieving off me again
  3. One of those just scraped here,.... and, like yesterday, looked ominous on approach, but amounted to nothing more than 10 minutes of moderate rain And no, they were not electrified, this is Lancashire not Lincolnshire
  4. was getting hopes up of some thunder in the tasty looking cumulonimbus that just passed over, anvil formation and cauliflower tops, very dark cloud that looked like a ragged wall cloud as it approached and greeny brown colour behind that, but not a sausage , just rain, and not really torrential ,just a little heavyish what the hell does it take here. RUBBISH
  5. I have mixed feelings about Autumn, love the tree colours , love the falling leaves, love the gales later in the season, kind of like it as much as spring, but for different reasons The only problem with it ,....it means its downhill into the horror season, aka winter, big energy bill, Flu and Noro virus season etc etc, so I am ok until the latter half of November , then I long for the new year and the increasing light levels again, Winter is a season that I would definitely skip , and as for snow....nahh you can have it, thank god we get little here compared to other locations, infact I dont care if I never ever see it again ,seriously. Here's to an average winter A mild one with a barlett would be even better
  6. seems summer may want to stay around http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/23952635
  7. whats even more annoying carl is the comments at the end of this film that was posted on the main thread, the so called experts are/were harping on about how global warming is making lightning more likely for the uk , err no, Will someone tell these idiots its about time they shut up about it, its been getting less and less as last few years have gone by especially in the west of England, and I have a gut feeling it wont get any better .....were they not around a couple of decades ago, there were far more storms around here then, and thats without any doubt whatsoever
  8. Would this be an Indian summer, or just an extension of regular summer, How for into September is an Indian summer ,or must it be into October to be classed as Indian ?
  9. LOL @ at the people arguing about moaning about temps, we rarely get extremes either way, although i have moaned in the past about cold, but only the horror that was dec2010 everything since then has been tame, -15c at 400pm in the afternoon, is what I got in dec2010 hope that never happens again , ridiculous for a maritime climate in a temperate zone, thank god them extremes are rare for us The thing I really do moan about is the lack of storms, and I have every right too, because their absence now in NW England has gone beyond a joke compared to how it used to be. Its like they are not allowed here anymore Anyway July 2013 was memorable because it did produce the only thundery shower of the year, to get thunder here is now a very very hard ask, so well done July 2013 lets all raise a glass to.....JULY2013
  10. had an early night last and slept like a log here in the storm void North West, although I did look at the radar for the early hours here and it showed some good red echoes at around 300AM did I miss anything? didnt think so , this is the North West after all
  11. I wonder if might see the odd distant flicker of lightning looking east after dark, unlikely though, even that would be to much too ask unfortunately
  12. I have had little more than two rumbles , and seen the odd bit of fork lightning after chasing weak storms, but I must admit this is the least thundery year for me too, Today I saw and heard nothing, a few years ago I am sure a day with the same conditions as this would have produced more widespread and more active thunder showers, some on here say nothing has changed, Well, I am having non of that, something HAS changed, I don't expect next year to be much or any better, can it get any worse,,, oh it can.
  13. Oh god no , A typical January day is even more close to the description of crapola , not warm enough to have your windows open for oxygen rich air, dry throat with the heating being on. But serious deep cold with successive ice days not that common. Just the boredom of temps round the 4c mark. Norovirius and flu and other cold loving virus having a field day, everyone on the verge of rickets with lack of daylight. cant wait
  14. its a great recording, telegraph road was the first ever cd I bought in the eighties and I was amazed by the clarity and dynamics on my new hifi system, but that was in the days before the overuse of compression that spoils modern recordings   ,thats why I am thinking of going back to vinyl
  15. No its not just you at all, its been THE worst ever this year, 2 thunder days in total here,,, well below average someone mentioned 2010 being worse , well it wasn't here , one of the best storms in years happened that year. as well as as a few smaller 'thundery' showers
  16. very true, but dont forget october can deliver heat in the mid twenties celcius as was proved two years ago and cold uppers in september are also good for thundery showers in the Irish sea, but this only happens if the sea is very warm after a hot summer, so some late summer heat is needed to keep the irish sea warm, not only that it can aid wintry convection too in winter if the SST warmth is retained,,,,,so cold lovers should be wanting that heat intead of dissing it , thundersnow anyone
  17. and its only acrss the water, a fair way from my part of the county though just shows how rubbish the uk is for storms in general, i would be jumping up and down with excitement if that thing was sliding past my area , the frequency of bolts inside the cloud is amazing and scary
  18. the only place crap for storms this year is the north west of england, parts to the east like manchester have fared a bit better but they are still below average for thunder count days, but the bulk of the north west hasn't seen much at all this year, the worst in my living memory, I thought last year was bad, this year takes the biscuit. Only one overhead thundery shower here, I say thundery shower because I dont class 2 fairly close bangs and 3 moderate rumbles a storm
  19. I rest my case, the isolated sferics around barrow was probably the 'severe thunderstorm' risk, ah well , time for bed nearly . not staying up to watch some moderate rain with heavier spells mixed in
  20. is that skywarn forecast just having a laugh, the predictions for decent thundry activity over these parts of northwest very rarely comes off,, seen it many many times, this the northwest , not east midlands,.....move along, nothing to see here
  21. lakes are classed as north west england ,so dont hold your breath for a thunderstorm,
  22. Yes i saw that just after midnight, three or four pinky blue flashes to the north east, but that was it, went to bed as I new anything coming up from the southwest would die before it even gets to cheshire, Only one half baked overhead storm here this year, early morning about two weeks ago. This summer is the worst I can remember, yet manchester just a few miles away have done better dont normally chase storms in the car, because the cost of fuel and they are usually a bust , but I am so storm starved I drove over to the pennines last night about 900pm on the m62 came off at saddlworth and watched a bit of cloud to cloud forked lightning at dusk over saddlworth moor , very eerie, during the week I drove to north of bury ,but risked getting stuck in rushhour traffic on the way back, caught a bit of a storm there, Staying in storm void wigan will not get anything, today will be the same, so might try to get a drive if i get some time later (probably somwehere east of here again ,
  23. nothing but blue sky here, few bubbling cumulus to my west but seem to be falling apart now, down wind is clear skies all the way, nothing will happen here of course
  24. Heard a grand total of two rumbles at work in St Helens however after leaving to head back to wigan I noticed something interesting brewing over bolton way, seeing as I am home alone this week I decided to go towards it, and not go home, I ended up just to the north of bury at haslingdon before I caught up with it, phew ! saw a CG, and a bit of sheet lightning, and heard about a dozen rolls of thunder , had some torrential rain which got me worried, as this was the same storm that flooded todmordon, nice towers and anvil on approach and very dark wall cloud, all textbook cumolonimbus stuff, Well I knew nothing would turn up storm void wigan, so I thought , RIGHT if you are not coming to me I am coming to YOU Was it worth a thirty mile round trip for an 'average' thunderstorm ?, well, with such a lack of activity in this part ,,,YOU BET
