  1. At long last it's starting to lie here- goodnight all, see what I wake up to tomorrow morning!

Yes, it happened widely in the south in late-March 1952, and I recall that the 28th March 1995 had some pretty serious snowfalls in parts of Yorkshire and Lancashire early in the day including a rare three-inch fall in Lancaster.

On rare occasions it's been known even later in the season, e.g. the exceptional cold snap in late-April 1981 when some low-lying parts of the country got some substantial accumulations of wet snow. Significant accumulations of snow penetrated to relatively low levels in early April last year and to near sea level in some regions on the 6th April 2008, though these were short-lived.

cheers tws i do remember a snowfall around 2008 that was really heavy that i think was in march and it piled up but by the time i got up around 1pm(been out drinking all night) it was gone

  2. I moved from Penistone about the same time that Machu moved in. Spooky!

Used to love the winters there, but they're great here as well, it's just that when it snows here it doesn't there and vice versa.

Still waiting for the first snowflake today, mind you, we've had 2 lots earlier in the week.

Get yourself over, theres so many new faces turning up in the village since house prices have dropped, theres new houses and estates being

built all around the village (small town)

I live on Sheffield Road, 2 bed stone terrace houses that fetched £110k a few tears ago are now selling for 65-70k, nice warm solid houses too.

A lot are being bought to LET as they fetch £400-£450pcm. The best thing is its a snow magnet.

i live in probs the worst place for snow because of elevation lol.but even we got a foot back in 2010

  3. I've lived over this way for 9yrs now and i've seen some awesome snow but when you listen to the locals talk about past winters it makes you realise

that this is nothing in comparison. I've seen photo albums full of pics where the snows been up to the top of the door frames and tunnels have been

dug out between the houses and the shops. Also Penistone High Street under stomach deep snow and drifts as high as houses in Thurgoland, crazy

    amounts of snow.

I'm sure theres a couple of farms down Wharncliffe woods way so the farmers might have kept the roads clear, local farmers come through here in their

tractors in the middle of the night when the roads get bad and then help out with the clearing with JCB's.

You can always park up on the main road if its bad and walk it, although i'm sure you would be walking and your daughter sat on the sledge being pulled.

i gots to move to penistone good.gifdrunk.gif
