  1. "looking at the radar it looks like it could pass me by to the s/e" Now that was funny ! You are beginning to sound like Matty from Ireland on the model watch thread 35mm here in 2.45 hours. Not quite so heavy. If its any consolation none in Andover when I go home. Sunday and Tuesday yet and I expect Glacier Point will drum up some good stuff beyond that. Flyer
  2. 30mm here in 2 hours and the radar returns are getting more intense. Heavy snow. But the low is slowly but surely moving East maybe slow enough to get that next radial. The next hit is for coxy22 in Portsmouth as his front door porch has been waiting for some considerable time
  3. Beka Hi 20 mm here now in just over an hour and I am only 10 mins up the road. Pretty narrow band I'd say although the radar is expanding and dare I say it there are the odd red flashes in there too. Cheers Flyer
  4. Chilbolton Observatory North ish hampshire Heavy snow 1.5 cm in half an hour . As Paul Sherman says the low is slow moving East so could be a hoover event on the South coast. We have some catching up to do. This could just be it ! Bring it on
  5. 22 There is a barrow load being wheeled in along the M27 as we speak Another small radial to come depends how quick the low travels East. Outlook Looking at the fax charts for today it could be a knife edge situation as prior to the next front on Tueday's low the 528 Dam line is half way up the counrty and only comes south as the low goes by so could be rain or snow on that occ front. Chucking it down here now a superb 0.045 cm
  6. Coxxy22 Depending on your present temps and dew point you could be in with a shout . Check the returns on the Meteox radar etc. Cheers Flyer Edit Continuous heavy snow now settling fast.
  7. Present update from Chilbolton Observatory North Hampshire. The low that gave the southwest all that snow was forecast yesterday to sweep over hants but alas the low became slow moving and the radial swung in over Plymouth. I have been watching the second band and now the low has moved East past the French peninsula the 2nd band is sweeping NE over Southampton with some heavier precipitation. By now the wind is more a Northerly so guess that the moisture from the radial is being undercut from the cold sector forcing the moisture up aloft over the top causing the snow that is now falling. Not much left in the low unless it deepens over the channel and stops. Anything is possible in this situation as has been evident this past 24 Hours. So this evolution could effect the following synopsis . Been sleeting all morning but now flakes. Could be a few cm's shame about missing the bulk that Mullender got over on the SW forum . He has uploaded some good pics which are worth a look. Cheers Flyer Edit : Temp 1.4 C Steady moderate snow
  8. System in southwest approaches now just touching edge of Bournemouth heading NE Depends on rotation speed and forward momentum as to who gets the juicy bits. Assuming the dew points and lapse rates are OK. From past observations this set up can produce tons of the stuff. Could be a real blast ! Hope it doesnt spin off in another direction. Lows can be real monkys being unstable air masses and unpredictable. Lamp posters at the ready
  9. Ladies and Gents its reload time here in north hampshire. Was very impressed with those in the midlands last night waiting patiently till gone 3 AM . Now that is dedication. I signed out at 12.30. So another ghoster coming on tonight. Landfall around midnight running an anticlockwise front from say Plymouth to the Wash. 2 TO 8 inches . Interesting that the front might stall with a major battle and a ready supply of moisture to hoover up out of the channel so anything could happen after last nights forecast that south of M4 would probably get rain which held off till 7AM. Eyes down . Game on
  10. Just watchrd the weather forecast from Jay Wynne and 8" for Glocs with 1 - 2 for Derby area Rain for southampton but hopefully here 30 miles north might just keep the white stuff . Still snowing heavy unbelievable 2 " in the past hour . Better than the last hit Flyer
  11. Hello All Think this system is heading more east than forecast. Snowing heavy here in Andover north hampshire and only 30 miles from the south coast. Green grass all set back to default white again. Some heavy bursts showing up on radar returns. Now as long as it doesnt turn to rain I could be in with a shout to finish my half built igloo. Cheers Flyer
  12. Well folks if the gfs is to be believed then the low northern flank swings anticlockwise up around to an axis sw/ne direction before the cold northern air has had a chance to get to the south BUT if the low from Biscay slows which it appears to be doing and heads further east then its game on for the south with snow prospects. I have noticed that the projected temps for the south are now down a couple of degrees for 6pm onwards so if upper air temps play ball then anywhere away from the south coast could get a hit I'm old enough to remember 63 and all that jazz and the best prospects were always slow or stalled lows in the channel hoovering up the moisture and dumping it slightly inland. Ever the optimist. If you stop being a kid as you get older then you may have gotten older than you realise ! Cheers Flyer
  13. Well as I finished that last post the snow stopped completely so lasted half an hour very well defined shower group. The next hit has just arrived at 13:25 pretty wet with visability down to 300 metres at times temp is 2.5C
  14. Hello All Very Heavy snow here in Andover North Hampshire Ironically the heaviest I've seen it yet in this snowy period. Showers appear to be hoovering up over the channel and tracking NNE inland. The radar shows the showers spinning off the southern side of the low so depending which way the low heads will have quite an outcome on wind direction of showers. There was a slights thaw earlier so temp rise may be conributing to localised convection. Blimy what a turn up and pretty difficult to guess as the weather at present seems to be one step ahead of met office where I am consequently they keep issuing updates. Happy days Flyer
