  1. A lot of talk in work today about another potent cold spell arriving in the next fortnight - apparently NIE are getting all prepared and everything. First I have heard of it anyone else hearing about this??
  2. Indeed biglad - very crunchy under foot as well, roads very slippy as well around here
  3. It means its cold, real cold, as cold as it can be in theory - but I think you will find that Frosty's weather station has recorded colder
  4. No Osbourne indeed he hasn't !! Folks if you don't want to read Frosty's posts then don't - it will save you raising your "suds" levels Back to the weather nice dry clear and frosty, just how I like it
  5. And people say your not dedicated - night night or should that be day day!!!
  6. I'll will give it a go! Co.Tyrone - Sometime next week Pomeroy 6cm By the way Andy_leics do you ever sleep!!
  7. Kudos to you Crewecold, and to anyone who puts there head above the trench in trying to predict the winter season!!
  8. May I also offer my thanks guys, a lot of work goes into your forecasting methods that I won't even pretend to understand, even if we get a winter in between your forecast and GP's then it could be another interesting one! We had lying snow from the week before christmas right through until the end of January - Iooks like we could be in for something similar again then going by your forecast!! The wife won't be happy - but the children will:drinks:
  9. I also work in the Civil Service, last year I made it in from a distance off 55miles on a really bad morning only to find that "senior management" would be working from home that day!! Of course I would not have the option to work from home and if my office was 5 miles away then I would have to walk it, I wonder how that would stand up if I slipped and broke my leg And people say we are not dedicated. Anyway looking forward to the coming winter, in my area snow was on the ground for a good 4 weeks bit like the winters of my youth, interestingly the birds are realy stripping all the berry trees the last couple of days fattening up for another cold spell perhaps?
  10. Well radio Ulster were reporting ground frost this morning with temps at 2 degrees around Castlederg station - just reporting what I heard!!
  11. Thaw my ass - biggest load of snow for my part of the cold spell so far and its still snowing!! And yet no weather warning
  12. Picture of a frozen Lough Fea taken today, the amount of people walking on it was crazy
  13. I note that the Meto have downgraded their warning for snow on Sunday. Still what an amazing period of cold weather, we still have snow lying from the 20th of December in Pomeroy, the snowmen ( and woman) I built with my girls are still there although they are tilting to the side somewhat, loughs have frozen parts of the Foyle have frozen and the river sion?outside sion mills is also well frozen in parts. I observed this on my journey to Derry today. I know that people want 50 feet of snow etc, but still I bet we will be talking about this cold "snap" in 30 years to come God willing. These are rare events people even without the snow the cold itself has been exceptional. Thats my 2pence worth, back to work for me, enjoy it

  15. Ahem its Pomeroy thank you, it was interesting that the BBC didn't come out into my area of the country, that said they wouldn't have got their van up my road! Did anyone see the wingnuts walking, quad biking and driving cars onto Lough fea outside Lissan in tonights news?
  16. Just back from walking the dog - it is bitter out there, like you say Big Lad the new snow in the is like icing sugar. The ice on my road is unreal yet after ringing and requesting grit for the past 3 weeks still got nada from the road service, they are forever putting me on their"list"
  17. Like I said from the Met Office - don't believe it myself but its there for all to see, will probably be a downgrade regarding this
  18. Latest warning from the MET for Sunday, I thought we where to stay dry for the next fortnight?? Northern Ireland: Co Antrim Co Armagh Co Derry Co Down Co Fermanagh Co TyroneHeavy SnowSun 10 JanThere is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting many parts of Northern Ireland, Wales and much of England. There is potential for further outbreaks of snow, which could locally become heavy and prolonged at times. This will lead to further icy stretches on roads and pavements.
  19. Did anybody see my village of Pomeroy featured in the BBC newsline programme tonight, the feature was about how the highest village in NI was coping with the cold!! Fame at last
  20. Same here Baltic, fog hasn't lifted yet and its defo not freezing yet? I had to laugh at the UTV and BBC weather forecasts after their respective news tonight UTV put the Snow risk for tomorrow for Northern & Eastern areas while BBC went for Northern and western!!! I wonder who will be right? Hi Ronan if you are on I was working in Derry today and on my way home I happened to look at the river, its seemed to be freezing in parts or am I going mad, maybe it was exposed sand banks at lower levels I seen which had frosted over??
  21. And another one - why can't I put more than one on at a time?
  22. Just some photos of what we got two weeks ago here in Co.Tyrone - some snow is still lying
  23. Fingers crossed then Watcher - some possible snow for your direction by the end of the week going by the BBC weather for the week ahead forecast
  24. I'd say we got 3cm out of that its still snowing on and off
