Oh I agree with you and many will do very well, unfortunately, I’m not best placed for the biggest falls
I know where you coming from. I've been doing this for a few years now - you might surprised. Friday is looking good using multiple indicators and the air is unstable flowing off the North Sea. Some people where hope casting for snow or cold last week even when temps where forecasted at 7c. But it's game on now and no model we have predicts snow content correctly. And yes snow could cause travel issues in some area's come Wednesday night. MagicBat

I think that’s conservative for the sweet spots to the east. I don’t expect much more than a slight covering here
Hi CK1981, after many weeks of cold hunting it's now on our doorstep. The change was always going to be around the 24th Feb / backend of Feb. I wouldn't worry about lack of snow. Our area has several days of snow showers. Some heavy, some not. Snow showers hit the coast at 8pm /9pm tomorrow. Enjoy!

You won't beat Spurs, I'm afraid. I really don't care that much, but your back line and keeper is criminal. Anyway back to the task in hand. The key change date for us is the 22nd February, yes it's been moving slowly further back. But the model are showing a more solid agreement even at this range for a cold period. 24th/25th looks more promising for snow even for the SE as the potential fronts find prominence on east wind.

When do we expect snow/rain to hit London? What's your thoughts about timings?
-
Evening all, 4.1c here and heavy rain. If things are to turn more wintry - then when would it be due?
-
For the last 15min we have had very heavy rain here (Essex & Herts border). Any chance of thunder storms hitting our area today/tonight? What % chance would you say?
-
Essex Weather Centre tweeted this earlier this evening:
Heavy snow showers will affect many Southern and Eastern districts of Essex this evening. Locally 1-2CM and risk of ice.
The radar is looking rather clear. Hopefully the ppn picks up over night with shower coming off the coast. Let's see what happens.
-
Moved West very quickly, such a shame!
Agreed, interesting shift to the west. We may see a more southern push soon and ppn growing in strength on eastern edge.
-
I think Peterborough area looks the sweet spot - maybe 5-7cm if they tap into that new streamer along the wash
2cm North of London
South of London & kent- unsure yet....
S
Cheers Steve. Interesting radar watching. I would pleased with 2cms in my area. I hope to see more ppn pushing in from the coast during the night to give the London guys something.
-
PS the first yellow pixel has appeared in the eastern band around 10 mins North of Cambridge
Also the other bonus is its all slow moving-
Slow to arrive- but slow to leave-!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Steve, how much snow could you expect for this ppn set up at lower levels?
-
The main band of ppn seems to be moving in a more southern direction. North London might find itself in the line of fire.
-
Looks okay to me opinions coming in from the experts about some snow for all the region however caution advised we won't all see the white stuff
Do you think the ppn will be mainly hitting the East of our region? Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk downwards? The radar seems to be showing this now.
-
More to move from the north anything could pop up
We have ppn developing due north of our region. It could be an interesting night.

I think the problem at the moment is the flow is not sufficiently se and too much modification off the English Channel, as the low slips further south the winds should start edging more to the se but its whether theres enough precip at that stage.
Evening, we seem to be losing on this one tonight. Maybe if the precipitation arrived an hour or 3 later the very marginal differences - may have been on our side. It's close looking at the charts and the reports tonight. The north part of our area could still be in the game.

Very Humid here. Just had the first cracking of Thunder! Radar nuw showing a collection of small pocket of heavy rain. Magic Bat

Just had the same - flickering light! Now starting to hear the gusts of wind - its now just starting to ramp up.We are heading towards the interesting part!Anyone with out power?Lights having a bit of a flicker fest now...have a feeling we might be off soon

Agree with you there. It will strengthen over the next few hours as the storm rattles across our region. Interesting to see the highest gust speed recorded in our part of the world.According to the weather station nearest to me, wind speed is currently around 20mph with 35-40mph gusts, so not that bad here. I believe the St Jude storm was stronger, though not as long Barometer currently reads 977 hPaGoing to take myself off to bed and get some sleep. Sleep through anything me. :DStay safe everyone and I hope the damage isn't to great in the morning.

Sounds excellent, where are you based? Only rain in North London.OMG!!!!!! BLEEEEEEEEEP!Probably the second best storm since I was a child, the most intense lightning...... HUGE bangs.... Air Pops, Fires in the distance, lightning hitting buildings. I have never turned my computer off EVER and this storm made me do that, just incredible. I hope people got some footage of one of the best storm since 1994 in this area.
-
Surrey, do you think the lighting strikes are growing in strength as they head towards the UK? I hope they are...
-
Should be entering the London area approximately 9:15pm. Not sure about large T storms. But heavy rain will be on cards.
-
Can hear rumbles of thunder now
Excellent storms heading towards this area.... Nice to these parts getting some good storms.
A nice pack of storms heading this way working their way across north London.
