  1. So like Haiyan only further north and over a more-populated area. Not good.
  2. There was lying snow down to pretty low elevations this morning in parts of Slovakia. This is Lokca in the north, below 700m:
  3. The most inclement day I've experienced for a good while. Pouring rain all day, temperatures hovering around 6C and gale-force gusts. October has already accrued over 100mm of rain. 70mm has come in the last four days. And it's still going.
  4. My nearest weather station (a few miles away, similar elevation) is showing wintry precipitation for a time tomorrow morning (the blue is rain, the grey is snow). There'll probably end up being nothing but to see grey in the precipitation forecast at all for 13th October is pretty noteworthy!
  5. High of 7.9C here today, the lowest maximum since 30th March. I've gone from a T-shirt to winter coat in the space of two days.
  6. Expecting something like 50-100mm of rain here through Monday and Tuesday. 2020 is turning into quite a wet year. We're about to surpass the annual average with two and a half months to go.
  7. Looks like the EWRC before landfall spared Cancun from worse damage. Delta appears to be expanding its wind field at the expense of maximum winds, which would make it similar to Ike's reorganisation in the western GoM in 2008. On that occasion winds were Cat. 2 at landfall but the storm surge was more typical of a major hurricane due to the storm's size.
  8. Uh-oh, not the pinhole eye. That's very bad news. Reminds me of Wilma and more recently Maria - both went from tropical storm to Category 5 in no time at all. An 18mb drop in little over seven hours - the next advisory could be anything at this stage. Trackwise it's pretty much where Gilbert was when it also bombed into a monster storm, only Delta should spend less time over Yucatan and more time over the Gulf of Mexico.
  9. I don't know really. Here September was warm until the last week. It's only really warmed up again the past couple of days. Tomorrow should only be about 20C. I definitely can't speak for Eastern Europe, as I'm literally about half a mile from the Austrian border and I can see Vienna on a clear day. Getting some pretty severe thunder and lightning at the moment. I didn't expect this at all!
  10. 24C here today but windy as heck. Some parts of Hungary managed to top 30C. Looks like I'm about to get some fireworks too according to Blitzortung.
  11. 25C forecast here for Saturday. One last hurrah for summer?
  12. I guess you'd have to rely on a cold October as I can't see much thawing happening in November. Ironically, 1931-2 was a snowless winter for most of Britain. Meanwhile, the Schneeberg cam is showing a fresh layer of snow (just dreary old rain here in tropical Bratislava).
  13. Lovely photos. Yesterday I tried to see if I could spot snow on top of Schneeberg (visible from here on clear days) but to no avail, because the mountain was shrouded in cloud. It looks like there was a fair bit up there yesterday but now only patches remain: https://sk.bergfex.com/puchberg-schneeberg/webcams/c2471/
  14. Nearly an inch of rain today and it's still lashing down. Temperatures have steadily fallen during the day from 19C just after midnight to 9C now.
  15. High of 25.4C today, the 15th day this month to breach 25C. The coldest day so far this month (and the only day not to reach 20C) is the 1st weirdly enough, but temperatures are set to tumble - 18C tomorrow, only 14C on Saturday.
  16. 26C and cloudless here today. The forecast is splendid indeed - high 20s right up to day ten. There's a good chance of surpassing 30C on Monday and Tuesday. Only problem is those blasted mosquitoes - eaten alive again today in the forest. The local council sprayed the streets a couple of weeks back but it's made negligible difference. Looks like they're going to be a problem for a while yet. Sunset over Vienna:
  17. It's 34C in Denver right now (just before 4pm there). By 1am it should be 9C and by 5am it's forecast to be 3C and snowing. Cheyenne, Wyoming had a high of 30C today. Tomorrow's forecast high is 0C.
  18. 29C and sunny here today. Perfect beer garden weather. So unfresh and unautumnal. Love it! Cooler for the next few days but still low to mid-20s, which will do me.
  19. Hot sunshine, lots of wasps (and far too many mosquitoes), average highs in the low-to-mid twenties (26C today). Summer is definitely not over yet as far as I'm concerned.
  20. 13.3C here at 2pm. That's pretty remarkable for this location at this time of year. There's been about an inch of rain since yesterday evening, but not a patch on September 2018 which saw 58.2mm on the first day and nearly 130mm in first four days (there was only about 9mm in the rest of the month though).
  21. Went to Komárno yesterday, across the Danube from Hungary. 35C and beer go very well together. Probably the last very hot temperatures I will experience this year. Tomorrow will be a shock to the system (high of 18C!) but it's at least looking fairly warm after that. I'm not ready for autumnal freshness just yet.
  22. Getting absolutely hammered here right now. Constant thunder and lightning. Best storm in ages.
  23. Forecast to reach 35C this weekend in Budapest but only 29C here thanks to a cold front approaching from the west. I don't think I've been in the sweet spot once this summer.
