  1. More sleet/graupel showers today. Meanwhile there's a foot of snow on the nearby hills (about 500m). Sadly by the time I get a chance to visit it will probably be all gone.
  2. Good grief it's horrible out there. 2-3C with horizontal sleet. I nearly got blown over on the way back from the shop. No lying snow as expected but there's been a bit higher up.
  3. Well the sunbathing didn't last long. It quickly clouded over, the wind picked up and the temperature began to drop like a stone. A nearby station (Stupava) has gone from 17.7C to 8.7C in just the last two hours.
  4. Don't forget 1917 at 5.4C. The first half was the coldest in the CET record (2.6C). Currently 18C and sunny. I'm soaking up the sun on the balcony before tomorrow's dramatic plunge back into winter. I'm expecting snow to fall but not to stick. We'll see.
  5. Hardly anything here either so far this spring. 3.1mm at Bratislava Airport for the whole of March, and a similar amount so far in April. Curiously most of it has been snow.
  6. A lovely day, sunny and 18C. Felt strange given the very last snow patches didn't completely disappear until yesterday. Similar tomorrow, perhaps 21C on Monday and then... 4C with possible snow on Tuesday.
  7. Despite a high of 8C a few patches of snow have survived the day. Another frosty night ahead.
  8. Snowing again here but yesterday's cover is gradually thawing. Got 3-4cm in the space of about half an hour, which is pretty impressive. It's supposed to be 20C again on Sunday and Monday before temperatures come crashing down once more on Tuesday. Quite the rollercoaster!
  9. Never mind turning white, it's a proper winter wonderland out there now! Essentially blizzard conditions. Just had a brilliant purple flash of lightning too.
  10. Well that was fun. I went for a walk in the forest when it was 7C and sunny. Almost immediately the sky turned dark, it started teaming with graupel and the temperature dropped to 2C. I also had my first thunder of the year. There's another intense squall passing through now turning everything white.
  11. Managed to get the briefest of coatings earlier thanks to the intensity of the squall. Then the sun came out... Still, it's the first April snowcover I've seen here since the exceptional late blizzard of 19th April 2017, which delivered 15-20cm of snow and afternoon temperatures hovering just above zero.
  12. Yes, I should have worded it better myself. Take care of yourself and have a good Easter.
  13. But Scorcher, I could just as easily call your original comment a sweeping judgement and going on the attack. Unless there really are people on here fascinated with plants dying, I don't think it was unreasonable to interpret it as a dig. And no, I'm most definitely not a saint and I admit I could have responded better than I have done. I think a lot of us are at our wit's end right now. It's been a tough winter.
  14. "Many are fascinated by potential damage to plants on this forum which is one of the things I don't understand- that is what concerns me most about Monday and Tuesday." I'm willing to admit I miscontrued your post, but how else am I supposed to interpret this? This is all I'm taking issue with.
  15. Of course you're allowed to express frustration - I do it all the time! But there's a difference between not understanding someone's viewpoint and making insinuations about them. You can't expect not to ruffle some feathers when you claim that other people want plants to die based on nothing but the fact that they happen to like the weather that can cause it. I know you like hot weather (so do I) so I'm pretty confident you loved Summer 2018. Would it have been fair for others to accuse you then of being fascinated by the killing of plants due to drought/wildfires? Of course not - you were entitled to enjoy the weather even if it brought misery to others. Sitting inside and feeling bad about it wouldn't have helped relieve the drought. And so it is now. Some people prefer cold weather and get excited by any snow prospects. It doesn't mean they're rubbing their hands in glee and laughing maniacally at the thought bad things may come of it. I don't mean to have a go, but it just frustrates me how often arguments break out because people can't express their own frustrations about the weather without guilt-tripping others because they happen to like the forecast. You don't like what's coming (me neither), others do. That's all there is to it really.
  16. I personally don't want it to go cold again, but this is disingenuous. It's like saying anybody who likes cold winters or hot summers hates old people. The fact is, everything but boring, mundane weather is likely to have adverse effects in some form or another. Not that temperature swings in spring are even that unusual.
  17. First 25C of the year here today. There was even a 26C locally (Kráľová pri Senci). Back down into the teens tomorrow. Quite a few thunderstorms have broken out in Central/Eastern Slovakia.
  18. 24C locally yesterday, making it a tad warmer than Tuesday. One more very warm day to come before temperatures start to fall away. The latest ECM is showing 3C and snow at day 5-6. We'll see!
  19. Highest temperature today locally was 23.2C (Stupava). Wolkersdorf near Vienna got up to 25.2C.
  20. What a gorgeous day. 22-23C with strong sunshine. Feels a world away from dark December and the cold March up until recently.
  21. It means that the highest recorded Feb-Mar temperature in any given year has never been lower than 39F. This year the highest forecast Feb-Mar temperature is only 38F, so a new cold record is possible. The wording with these things can be confusing, like the country with the lowest highest elevation and the one with the highest lowest elevation (the Maldives and Lesotho if you were wondering).
  22. Offshore breeze surely. That's what you'd expect from southerlies along the North Yorks coast. Ditto for easterlies and Aberystwyth.
