  1. Still snowing heavily in Odiham! Think that I am right on the edge of the precipitation. Have about 8cm at the moment. I am hoping that the ppn doesn't move any further east, although that is looking increasingly likely. Just about to look at the 8pm radar, that should give me a clue.
  2. Hi Stormforce, Even better than this, at 16.53 there was an extension to the area likely to receive the heaviest snowfall to include Surrey. I was a bit worried that you, in Winchester, and me, in Odiham, may just be a little too far east for the best of the snow. Things could obviously still change, but as it stands we are more or less in the middle of where the heaviest snow will be. Now there is just a possibility that we could get over 30cm (1ft). The proper stuff should start around 8pm according to the Met Office Warning. In the meantime I think that it is a matter of keeping an eye on the radar. It currently shows the precipitation intensifying to our south and moving due north/nne - let's just hope that things go our way.
  3. The temperature in north Hampshire has risen from about -3.5C at 12 noon to about +1C now (2pm). I think that where you are it is unlikely to rise as quickly or as much, but it will likely be above freezing by 3pm. Let me know.
  4. At 12 noon today in Odiham (N.Hants) the temperature was -3.5 and it was raining. It wasn't making any imp ression on the lying snow, but it was very light and short lived. Less than two miles away the temperature was +1.5 - very strange. The temperature is rising very rapidly now and I expect a slow thaw of the lying snow unless there is heavy rain in which case I would expect the thaw to be much more rapid.
  5. Hi badboy, You will be pleased to hear that there has been no overnight melt of the 4" of snow we have in Odiham - it is still a winter wonderland with the snow even remaining in the trees. The temperature on the car thermometer at 8.30am this morning showed -7.0 and although we are due some rain in Hampshire today I have a feeing that in the north of the county, because of the entrenched cold, we may have a period of at least sleet but maybe snow. In your neck of the woods I am afraid that it will undoubtedly be rain. I am farly confident that despite the rain forecast today and tomorrow we will have snow on the ground on Christmas Day itself. Merry Christmas Coram
  6. Yes, you were very close to the main event. Slightly north of you, here in Odiham, we have had at least 4" of level snow on top of the 1.5" we already had lying. This has been followed by an ice day with the maximum temperature being -0.8. The temperature had fallen, by 4pm, to -3.4. It doesn't get much better than this in these parts. There is also some indication that the warm-up on Christmas Day and Boxing Day may not be much of a warm-up at all. It seems that the models may have underestimated the stubborness of entrenched cold air and there is a possibility that we might get some back-edge snow from the system moving through overnight on Christmas Eve. This is still a little doubtful in my opinion, but the way the models have changed over the last few days, I wouldn't rule it out completely.
  7. It has just got a little lighter here - however even this is beginning to lie. I noticed that the temperature dropped from 0.9 at 12 noon to 0.2 at 2pm in Odiham. Would expect to get a couple of inches from this, with up to 4" on nearby hills.
  8. Been snowing moderately/heavily in central north Hampshire for the last two hours. It was very wet at first but now is beginning to lie well even at low levels (250 ft) - about 1" currently. On the higher hills there is up to 4" of fresh snow.
  9. On the hills close to Junction 5 of the M3 there is heavy snow with accumulations of up to 3". On ground below 500 ft there is also moderate/heavy snow, and has been for the last 1.5 hours. It is however wet snow and therefore is only adding to the snow on the ground in the very heavy bursts.
  10. Moderate to heavy snow for the last hour and a half here in Odiham (central north Hants) but very wet so only lying a bit. I am just on the boundary of the snow here. On the hills around here - towards Farnham(Surrey) to the south west and Alton (Hampshire) to the south, there have been accumulations of up to 2" and I would imangine that there will be accumulations of 4" or more before this event is over.
  11. Very true. The snow in north Hampshire was never more than light to at best moderate - although it is still lying at the moment. Temperatures have been more suppressed than I had expected, with only +0.2 being recorded at 3pm in Odiham. Looking at the Meto radar, there is a possibility that heavier precipitation is on its way over the next half an hour or so. If it is heavy enough then it should add to the very slight accumulations that we already have before being washed away by the rain forecast for this evening.
  12. No, it's six days away if you include yesterday,
  13. Odiham. Light snow now falling steadily with a dusting on the grass. The temperature at 11am was -0.3 (-1.0 at 10am). In order to get anything significant (1-2cm) before it turns to sleet/rain, then it needs to happen in the next couple of hours.
  14. A few light flakes of snow now falling in north east Hampshire - much earlier than expected. That's two days in a row we have had some. Let's hope that any precipitation that falls today is snow and that we get a covering.
