Coming down again fairly hard here in Farnham!
So chuffed! But remembered I left my mums wheelchair outside! Trying to defrost it before I take her outside! She’s not at all well and doesn’t go out so I want to try to at least let her see it in the Garden!
Hooe it stays long enough!

Just started snowing again moderately here in Odiham. You can clearly see an isolated blob of precipitation on the MetO radar that is perfectly aligned for you (Farnham) and then me. Looks like it will last for about half an hour or so.

Just about stopped here in north Hampshire and judging by the radar that's it for now at least. Didn't expect to be walking the dog in thick powdery snow on 18th March. Fantastic.

About 10cm in north Hampshire and still coming down moderately. Amber warning area spot on for here, although I do realise that other areas have got less/more than forecast.

Thanks for that. What have you added?
A good assessment of your recent posts.

As I said a while back, it’s all north. You disagreed though
Snow growing in intensity due south of you in north Hampshire. Don't think it's all north. You were never in the amber area whereas further south all seems to be going to plan.

The current forecast is for the heavier snow to miss the south east. However, all the major forecasters are emphasising that this is open to change. We will have a much better idea of what we can expect this time tomorrow, by which time the models should be converging on a solution. Tiny changes in the models can result in huge changes in where, when and how much snow falls.

Final bit of snow in the garden just about to disappear. The drifts at the side of some of the roads around here will probably last another week or so.

Drip drip drip. Thaw is well underway and accelerating now the sun is coming out! Sad to see it go but has been a great week.
Just come back from a walk in Farnham Park (Surrey). Beautiful pristine snowy walk with very little, if any, melt. Temperature 1C and the sun poking through the mist made for a magical scene. We should retain the snow for today but the thaw is sadly on the way.
-
Temperature 0C at 5am. Undoubtedly above freezing now with dampness appearing at the edges of the snow. Still a full cover but not for long. This has been a tremendous period and I am delighted to have shared it with my fellow weather geeks. Our obsession with cold and snow really is quite odd.

Nice moderate snow now on the Hampshire/Surrey border - probably had 3cm from this one so far. If any of those nearby want a reminder of this snowy period in the days/weeks to come, then get yourselves to Odiham and take the road to Alton. There are huge drifts (4-5ft) at the Odiham end. This road was blocked earlier today.

Interesting to note the back edge seems to have slowed right down, some models did suggest the system may grind to a halt and that maybe is what happening.
Still lightly snowing here but that is good news for you guys further north.
Would be good. Only snowing very lightly here now - hopefully there'll be a few more intense bursts. From the reports on here it seems that the best area today is mid Surrey. Anyway I'm off to take the dog for one last 'snowing' walk.

Whoever was talking about Heathrow, there is heavier snow about to move into the area and that will very likely trigger some delays I'dhave thought.
Anyway as I expected, back side of the front intensified as it hit land.
I'm probably going to have another 60-90 mins of light, then moderate snow before it finally all clears to the north after nearly 36hrs of trying to push north.
Let's hope you're wrong and that it is moderate/heavy and lasts another 3 hours - would be a very nice way for this freezing spell to finish.

My views on this are by now well known
I would argue that freezing rain is the most dangerous of all winter weather. While I understand that it is difficult to forecast, surely once the MetO/BBC realise that it's happening over a pretty widespread area they should immediately issue a red warning

Snow back to light as the heavier burst moves away into N.Hampshire, was very nice to see.
I suspect there will probably be one more moderate burst on the back end of the front and then that will probably be it for snow here.
Far south looking good for the next hour as the heavier stuff finally comes inland.
Yes, moderate now in north Hampshire. Interesting that you think that after the next burst that will be it. BBC predicting snow in our areas until about 5pm - is there a specific reason that you disagree?
-
Getting heavier now in north Hampshire. Come on.

Light snow just started in north Hampshire.

I’m not very optimistic about any significant snow in our region today.
Most models show heavier snow developing to our north, with things remaining patchy here, so unless the wind drops, it’ll just keep blowing around.
There are then indications of slightly milder air moving north, which ties in with the latest Met Office thoughts of a thaw setting in by dawn tomorrow.
This cold snap was crap for me to start, but we ended up with a surprise snowfall, so I’m happy about that.
On to Spring now ?
Great spell of weather in Odiham (due south of you). 1" Tues, 3" Wed, 3" Thurs and hopefully more today. The main road out of Odiham (south to Alton) was blocked by a 6 foot drift this morning. 3 foot drifts elsewhere.

Wow radar really has lighted up over the N.France coast!!
Looks like HIRLAM was right all along, just as I and a few of the rest of us expected.
Going to need a big eastward extension to the amber warning, at least to London, E.Sussex. Probably amounts in Hampshire and Surrey upto 10-15cm as HIRLAM now looking accurate.
Larger flakes just started here. Hope it's the start of something and that the heavier snow gets much further east than forecast.

Why are you in this thread?
Freezing Rain is a thing BTW.
I didn't say there was no such thing as freezing rain, just that there isn't any in 'our' region at the moment. I'm on this thread because I'm on the cusp of two regions and this one has a higher quality of poster. Like yourself.

Could be Freezing rain...in reply to those a couple pages back
Can we stop this now. There is no rain, freezing rain or sleet anywhere in the region. It is all snow.

Ah WiB, didn't see you back on here!
Yeah radar showing decent intensity down the A3 thats for sure, that feature has put me into a dry slot (can't complain as I could walk the dog!) but now we are into near moderate snow again which should be here for the next hour or so I'd guess.
Looking at radarI'd suggest SW Surrey probably good for atleast another 2-3cms, could be more if the front really hangs on in this area.
Further east will need something else to crop up in the flow, but this is about the eastern extent.
Agreed. MetO/BBC/Meteo seem to have this one about right. West and north of you, I'm still hoping for an increase in intensity for at least a couple of hours but I don't think there'll be a big addition to the snow that is already on the ground.

Snowing lightly again in north Hampshire. Lying on roads and paths immediately unlike yesterday when it took a while for the snow to lie on concreted areas. Obviously ground temperatures are much lower now after 36 hours of freezing weather. How long will it last? Radar watch I think.
