  1. Im using the Davis VP2 with 24 hour FARS and during sunny days it makes a very big difference. At 17:00 the local MetOffice sites were at 18.3C and 18.5C and my station was at 18.3C aswell, however a look on weatherunderground shows several nearby stations that are unshielded without FARS sat in the 19-21C range. I also have an old calibrated LaCrosse WS2300 (with only a raincover) which was sitting at 19.2C right next to the Davis, so its quite a difference.

The only issue in this country is that sunshine is pretty unreliable, so theres times when the batteries dont charge on the FARS unit and it doesnt make it through the night. Its also an issue if you are in a sheltered area when the sun gets lower in the sky (winter half year). You night find then that temperatures are slower to react to sudden changes, but I havent had any real issues in the time Ive had mine.

The 24 hour FARS unit cant be fitted later on and has to be specified when you buy a VP2, even when the fans arent spinning its still a much better shielded chamber inside the unit, so temperatures are much more accurate (if a little slower to react). A comprimise is the 'daytime only' FARS unit, but as this is a bolt-on upgrade, if you havent already bought the VP2 you might as well go for the 24 hour version in the first place.

Thank you very much for your time to answer, appreciate it very much. :)

  2. If you run the radar loop the area of precip furthest out in the North Sea is being dragged SSW Towards the Wash, the area on land over the Hull area is moving South, would expect when they all join up near the Wash / Skegness area then it will pull away to the SW, So imho London Westwards can expect some bonus snow tonight, Eastern Essex, Eastern Suffolk and all of Kent and East Sussex is not looking good at the moment unless the disturbance can drag in some potent showers from the North Sea overnight, winds are North Easterly here now at the Estuary!

Chance of a kent streamer ??

  3. Yep GFS 12z a lot like the UKMO Now with it re- building the block and putting us back in the -10c Uppers by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Happy with how this Block is holding firm, the Outlook for February is absolutely Freezing at the moment with plenty more Snow Chances to come!

Im only 18 but is it going to be like one of those winters that my grandad always used to tell me of when the snow was on the ground for a good month and the snow cover just kept getting topped up with new snow falls.

  4. I have a question a would really appreciate it if a few people could give their views and answers.

I have been watching this feature in the north sea all day, the same feature that's responsible for pounding Belgium and now France with snow.

Some say that the South east may see some snowfall and some don't. After a mainly sunny day today the first pieces of cloud that are linked to this system are now visible and wanted to know whether or not this type of cloud (in the picture) means something or not. I know that before rain approaches from the west you normally get wispy sort of clouds that are able to tell us that rain is coming.

Any thought of what this cloud means, if it means anything at all that is?
