  1. Hello Tom. Very well done with your other post by the way. It could not have been easy. Epsom brings back memories for me as before I retired the consultancy I worked for had their head office at Epsom. In fact they designed the main grandstand. We often used to hire out space there for meetings. As far as racing is concerned I live about 4 miles from the Chelmsford City Race Course and I can confirm that no fillies (equine or otherwise) were "spooked" at yesterday's meeting there. In spite of severe storms being forecast we had nothing at all. This morning has up until now been dull, grey and misty but feeling mild (car thermometer reading 18C.) but the sun is now attempting to poke it's head through the crud. Kind Regards Dave
  2. Hello Thunderstruck. Nothing happening in Chelmsford. Had some brightness about 30 minutes ago and it became really very warm and humid but we are back in the grey drabness again now. Kind Regards Dave
  3. Good Afternoon everyone. Very heavy rain here in Chelmsford, and the thunder has just started up again after a half hour break. At least I will not have to water the allotment tonight. Kind Regards Dave
  4. Hello Crazy_diamond, It never made it as far as Chemsford, although I did hear a couple of rumbles of thunder. No rain in either the north part of Chelmsford (Springfield) or at my allotment to the west of the City. All rather disappointing as we also missed out last night and the night before we had a few flashes of lightning and five minutes of rain. I was hoping that I would not have to water the allotment but decided to as I am not confident we will have any rain tonight. Kind Regards Dave
  5. Good Morning everyone. It looks like it will be another glorious day here in the the southeast and East Anglia today. i will be off to the allotment to catch up on lost time as work on it started late this year because of the earlier wet conditions. Kind Regards Dave
  6. Hello Surrey. The work of carpenters is so varied . As well as conventional carpentry works, carpenters also install shuttering to trenches as well as form for installation of concreted pour for bridges. Still raining here. I hope tomorrow is not a washout as our grandson is staying with us and we need to get out to keep him amused. Kind Regards Dave
  7. I see Surrey. So we can safely say that you are "a chippie off the old block". Good luck with your change of venture. There is always demand for tradesmen in the construction industry. I worked in it for a number of years before I retired and one of my sons is an electrician. The weather here is not good at all now. That means my planned BBQ is now off. Kind Regards Dave
  8. As far as the weather is concerned looking at the latest charts it looks as though after this blip in the east and southeast today and tomorrow the weather will then improve. It has started to rain here already and looks set to continue for some time, therefore the BBQ I planned is definitely out later today. I hope the still cool evenings and overnight period for mid week does not result in ground frost as it will play havoc with young plants I have on my allotment. Kind Regards Dave
  9. Good Morning everyone. Another beautiful day here in mid Essex. Yesterday my wife and I took our middle son, his wife and their 9 month old to Maldon. We all like it there and have been many times before. It was the busiest we have ever seen it, even for the height of summer. We were stuck in a traffic jam of at least 2 miles queuing to get into the Promenade car park. It was so slow we found a side road and parked there and walked the remainder of the journey, which took us just over 15 minutes. In spite of that we had a really enjoyable time Kind Regards Dave
  10. Good Afternoon everyone. Another grotty day here in mid-Essex. Yesterday I went to Eastbourne to watch the mighty Clarets win and secure third place in the Vanarama South and a home match in the playoffs next Sunday. The weather there was not too bad with occasional sunny intervals but I returned back to Essex to be greeted by more light rain and drizzle. My wife told me it had been drier at home for a while in the afternoon before the rain had returned. Thee had certainly been no sunny intervals. In the meantime my lawn has grown since the last cut and my allotment is far too wet to work on. As a result I have a lot of plants at home waiting for some drier weather before I can plant them out. The next few days look particularly concerning but hopefully from mid week onwards we will tart to see an improvement Kind Regards Dave
  11. Yes Dami, And so did we, just the single rumble about twenty minutes ago. Kind Regards Dave
  12. Good Morning Snowy L, I hope you are wrong. Today my wife and I are leaving a warm and very sunny Essex for a two day stay near Witney in Oxfordshire. Hopefully I am in the correct thread for that location. We were promised very warm weather especially tomorrow, but still pleasantly warm thereafter. Any signs if it getting any brighter yet? Kind Regards Dave
  13. Good Morning TomSE12, I trust all goes well for your wife today. I will be thinking about her. Yesterday afternoon I attended Broomfield District Hospital in Chelmsford and had an MRI scan on my brain. I should know the result in about 3 weeks. About 4 years ago I had one and all was well. This time I found the process extremely hot. It was a mobile unit located in the hospital car park and it could have been because of the weather conditions. I dread to think what it will be like in the middle of the summer. My daughter in law is from the Philippines and we now have an 8 month old grandson. Jena is really lovely girl and we could not wish for a kinder, caring person to have as part of our family. She has no relations over here, but our friends and our local church (C of E although she was brought up as RC) have made her feel very welcome. Your past experiences are very sad and hopefully attitudes in this country are changing. My wife and I are going away for a few days for a break in Oxfordshire. She is unwell with heart problems as well as problems with her knees and back. Unfortunately because of the medication she is taking she is unable to benefit from pain killers. She is awaiting an angiagram (However you spell it dye into her heart to see what is causing her problem) to discover what is causing her irregular/fast heart beat, which causes shortness of breath. Until October when it suddenly happened she was very fit and we enjoyed walking in the countryside, but can no longer enjoy that together. I guess that is the price we pay for getting old. Today is getting off to a brilliant sunny start and looks set fair for at least the next 5 days and possibly longer. Kind Regards Dave
  14. Hello Mark, Thanks for your reply. Yesterday morning I was finally able to mow my lawn at the back of my house, although it the grass was still quite wet. In the afternoon I visited my allotment which is the other side of town. It was much drier than I thought it would be and I was able to walk on it without damaging the texture. My plot is on a slope at the top of the incline and other plots further down the slope looked much wetter. I pulled up my old Brussels Sprout plants and put the leaves into my three compost bins. The final one I opened revealed a pleasant surprise. In the top was a beautiful golden brown slow-worm about 2 foot long. Today is certainly a good one for drying out the soil with the combination of wind and sun. My wife and I are going away from tomorrow lunchtime until Friday to stay in Witney, Oxfordshire for a complete break as we feel we need it after the trials and tribulations we have had recently with our and our son's various health issues. I am just about to go to Broomfield District Hospital for a bran scan and I hope nothing untoward is discovered. Hopefully they will be able to locate a brain! Good luck with the visitors. If it gets too much we do a half decent B & B at decent rates. Kind Regards Dave
  15. Hello Mark, I trust you are well. You are lucky being able to mow your lawn. My lawn is still too wet, with a layer of mud below to attempt it at the moment. I hope to venture up to my allotment tomorrow to see how things are going. It has been far too wet to get onto it up until now so I have been setting seeds in propagators and will plant them out when they are of sufficient size and the risk of frosts has gone. The sun here has been missing until just after lunch, but keeps making brief appearances from time to time since. Kind Regards Dave
  16. Hello Daniel, I agree. Have you ever been there? I have and confirm it is not the best place to spend even a little time. One expects to see tumble weed drifting across the dirt tracks that "do" for roads. My in laws lived in Clacton and although there has in recent years been some development near the pier, most of the area is in decline, with many people living there having been sent from other parts of the country with mental health problems into B & B there. It is sad on cold wet days seeing them sitting shivering in shelters along the front to stay dry as they have nowhere else to go. Don't get me started on how these unfortunate people are treated within the community. The weather today continues on the trend of the past few days and is mistier and even duller.I live in hope that we might see some brightness tomorrow. Is it me or does this brighter weather continue to be put back each day? Kind Regards Dave
  17. Good Evening all, Another yuk day here in Mid Essex, with further light rain this afternoon. It is still too wet to cut our back lawn and my allotment is like the Somme at the moment and I cannot set anything, unless I opt for rice production. Hopefully tomorrow will be the last of these days of drabness. Yesterday we took our grandson back to Godmanchester. Our son told us the afternoon there had been sunny for the most part. We had a bit of brightness around lunchtime and then the cloud closed in to be followed by overnight rain. Kind Regards Dave
  18. Yep another horrible day here too. Everywhere is so wet and dull. Roll on summer- if it ever arrives Kind regards Dave
  19. Good Evening Summer Sun What would those 850's equate to for us in the southeast please? About 21C or more? Thanks Kind Regards Dave
  20. Good evening everyone. Been dry here since about 07.45 but only a few sunny intervals. Fed up with all this dull, dismal weather. Too wet to do anything on the allotment. I noted that Pete @Ed Stone said in an earlier posting he did not like celery. Guess what seeds I set in a propagator today? Yep celery. Guess I will not be sending any to Beccles! Kind Regards Dave
  21. Good Morning everyone. Another dull, damp sort of day here. This must go down as one of the worst Easters weatherwise thus far. Today we are promised bright intervals and showers and it will be interesting to see if we will be that lucky or we will actually see a bit of the old currant bun. Tomorrow looks dire. I am stewarding at our football club tomorrow and I am not looking forward to a right soaking if the game goes ahead. The pitch has held up well thus far. Locally the rivers are high with flood warnings out and Hylands Park (the venue fir the now defunct V festival) is a quagmire. Enjoy the rest of Easter Edit I do believe the sun is trying to shine. Starts singing in his best singing voice "hello mamma, hello papa, here we are at Camp Granada", for those of you old enough to remember it. Kind Regatds Dave
  22. Hello Mark, I trust you are well. Good luck today. We are away at Truro. Six of our supporters have been walking in relays since last Saturday's away game at Hungerford to today's game at Truro. They are doing so for sponsorship to add funds to the supporter's club coffers as well as some of our local charities. Looking at the forecast for Cornwall it looks to be touch and go if they arrive before the bad weather catches up with them. After all their efforts I only hope the game is not called off. As far as the weather here is concerned it is cloudy, but the snow has just stopped for a few minutes but it looks like it will start up again any minute. The grass, trees and roofs are all covered in snow but the roads and pavements are mainly clear. An interesting day of weather watching ahead I am sure. Kind regards Dave
  23. Oh dear I hope you was not arrested for indecent exposure Kind Regards Dave
  24. Hello Surrey, and so am I. I have rather mixed feelings on this one as my eldest son has to go up to London on Tuesday for a hospital appointment that he should not really miss. Hopefully there will not be any travel disruption by then. Kind Regards Dave
  25. Good Morning everyone. I realise that the pink colour denotes snow, but not being that versed in this type of thing could someone please advise me of the following. 1) Is it the total amount that falls from the sky or accumulations on the ground? 2) Darker pink presumably means more snow, but is there a key indicating what each shading equates to? Many thanks Dave
