  1. Thank you very much for the welcome. We are really looking forward to our visit. We will probably go to Newcastle as well whilst we are in the area, as my wife's aunt used to live there and we like Tyneside very much. Kind regards Dave
  2. Good afternoon everyone, As you can see from my signature I live in Essex (someone has to!) and I normally post on the SE/EA thread. On Wednesday my wife and I will be travelling up to Durham to stay for 3 days in order to attend the Festival of Light there. Do any of your good folk know what the weather is likely to be for the second half of next week? I guess that it will not be short sleeves and shorts! Kind Regards Dave
  3. Still no trains from Shenfield north due to power line disruption. I will have to continue working in our chelmsford office. I can link to my emails etc, but unfortunately the computer i am using does not have the same software which means that some of my work I wish to undertake is off limits. Just had a short gusty shower here. Hopefully the trains will be back running tomorrow. Kind Regards Dave
  4. It was fairly bad in Chelmsford earlier this morning, with quite a few large branches off trees strewn across footpaths and some of the minor roads. Some house without power and no trains up to Liverpool Street until midday at the earliest and even then according to Greater Anglia it will be a very restricted service. I am working from my company's Chelmsford office this morning but hope to make it up to my office in Euston this afternoon. Parkway near the Army and Navy Roundabout closed due to part of the roof of the Premier Inn (no more than 4 years old) has become detatched and there is insulation everwhere. Although the damage is somewhat more localised than originally envisaged it is nonetheless extensive in those areas that have been affected by the worst of the conditions. Kind Regards Dave
  5. No trains up to London until midday at the earliest. I walked down to the railway station this morning. Quite a lot of branches down including some on Lawn Lane. A large willow tree down by the river. The last I heard Parkway ( a dual carriageway that runs through the City) is still closed as part of the Premier Inn (can only be 3 or 4 years old) roof has come off and insulation blowing around. Currently working in my company's Chelmsford office but hope to travel up to my office in Euston this pm. Kind Regards Dave
  6. Hello everyone, Returned home from Wells Next Sea a little earlier this evening after a long weekend at the Pinewood Caravan Park. We were extremely lucky with the weather with only Saturday afternoon turning cool, breezy and cloudy. the rest of the time was mostly sunny and warm in sheltered spots. Today started sunny from dawn and it was still sunny when we left at about 14.30, but travelling no more than about a couple of miles inland on the way home we met cloud and so it remained (including travelling through the TOD) until we reached the outskirts of Chelmsford. Back to work tomorrow. No doubt the sunny weather will follow me to London!! Kind Regards Dave
  7. I hope that I have timed it right as well. Going via the TOD to Wells Next the Sea, late Friday pm and returning home late afternoon Monday. Is the temperature expected to be a lot lower on the North Norfolk Coast? It is interesting when you look at the map of the UK to see that Wells is further north than Birmingham. Kind Regards Dave
  8. I could have told you that. One of my sons had exactly the same problem. They are not interested in finding work for anyone. Those jobs that they insist you look at on their PC's when phoned have usually gone soem weeks previously!By the way I am travelling up through the TOD on Friday for a long weekend at Pinewoods Caravan Park at Wells Next Sea. We always travel on a lovely route from Chelmo up to Braintree, across to Halstead/Subury/ Bury St Edmunds/ Thetford Forest and Swatham. Are we likely to encounter any interesting weather? Kind Regards Dave
  9. Well it is a bit better now looking out of my office window in the 27th floor here in NW1. The sun is making several attempts to shine. It is certainly much better than it was as I walked from home to Chelmsford Railway Station at just after 7 this morning. It was really dull and drizzly then. I thought this is going to be a great birthday for me. It has not been made a lot better for me by the fact that I have to shortly go over to Straford for a meeting which is certain to be a long one and I doubt that I will be home much before 20.00 hours. Still it could be a lot worse. I could be unemployed. Kind regards Dave
  10. Hello BB54 thanks for your response. I had forgotten conpletly about that! I am going away again, this time with the rest of the family on 20 Septmeber to Wells Next the Sea for a long weekend. Does the TOD extend that far?Kind RegardsDave
  11. Good Afternoon everyone, A really miserable day here in London NW1. My first day back at work after a week in Tossa De Mar. Temperatures everyday in the high 20's/ low 30's. a real diffreence for me today. my wife and I travelled by coach, as she hates flying and coming back about an hour before we arrived at the Pyranees it started to rain. It got heavier and heavier and we entered several thunderstorms along the way. The rain was absolutely torrential and the rosds were completely awash. The rain continued all night and we only entered a non rain area just before we arrived at Calais. It must have been pouring down on the coach for about 14 hours. I have been unable to read the message board whilst I was away. Can I please show my ignorance and enquire what TOD means. Many thanks Kind Regards Dave
  12. Hello BFTV,Thanks for your reply.Apologies but I believe that I realise my mistake now. The report relates to record levels of ice melt in 2012. I got my years muddled in thinking it was referring to the current situation. this summer the ice has retreated less than the previous year. Have I got it right now?Kind RegardsDave
  13. Hello Everyone, I posted the text below in the wrong thread earlier today. Apologies for doing so. Posted Today, 14:55 Good Afternoon Everyone,I am not certain if I have posted in the correct thread, but if I have not please accept my apologies and moderator please transfer to the correct one. Please find below a link to an article from "Off Shore Technology" which I trust that you find of interest.http://www.offshore-...T.mc_id=WN_FeatIt is a bit confusing to me as I am not an expert on the subject, but I though that I read in other posts that the sea ice has held up better this year over the summer months and is considerably better than last year's he report that I have provided the link to appears to contradict this. Could someone with more knowledge please clarify this for me. Many thankskind RegardsDave
  14. Four claps of thunder here in north Chelmsford during the last 10 minutes. Raining moderately heavy.
  15. Just got ack from Stratford to Warren Street on the underground, an extremely unpleasant, swelering experience. I now have the commute home to look forward to in a few minutes. The Greater Anglia train from Liverpool Street that I usually catch is left in the blazing sun with all the windows shut in sidings all day. Some nights it is difficult to breath properly when first entering the carriage and only a little relief after openng all the windows until the train picks up speed after about Benthnal Green. Oh the joys of commuting! I am looking forward to arriving home this evening and sitting in the garden for a few minutes, then up to the allotment to do some watering. Kind regards Dave
  16. It reminds me of what one of my sons used to say. At the time he was an electicians labourer and he was always complaining of the fact in the summer he would be dragging cables through loft. with all the fibre glass insulation sticking to him because of the heat, whilst in the winter with a biting north easterly wind he would be installing external lighting at some exposed pub car park. *ods law i guess.Kind regardsDave
  17. Good afternoon Coast, Thanks for your reply yesterday re Eastbourne/Bognor. As you know we are travelling down tomorrow for a weekend break. It is our wedding anniverary and we felt like getting away for a few days. It has been 43 years together and we have not argued for the last ten.(We have not spoken for the past 10 years!) Only joking! When I looked at the National Weather Forecast at 06.20 this morning Carol K did not mention it but it looked like the chart was showing sea fog lapping into the coast down your way until mid afternoon tomorrow. Did I read the chart correctly or am I worrying needlessly? Kind Regards Dave
  18. As it is wedding aniversary today,my wife and I decided at the last minute yesterday to book a hotel in Eastbourne for Saturday night, but practially everyone we tried were booked. In the end we have decided on the Royal Norfolk at Bognor. It must be at least 35 years since we last visited Bognor. What is it like these days. Kind regards Dave
  19. From a purely selfish point of view I really do hope that it is not during the daytime on Thursday as it is my mother's funeral. What are the chances of it happening between 11.00 and 13.00 hours in Essex? I know it is a long way off but is my neck of the woods in the firing line?Kind RegardsDave
  20. That is an excellent photograph Marc B. I have never seen a woodpecker in the wild and I always imagined they were somewhat larger than your picture indicates when one compares it to the Blue Tit in the picture. Many thanks for sharing it with us. I have certainly learnt something today. Cold and misty this lunchtime in NW1. Not a good view out of the office window here on 27th floor. Kind Regards Dave
  21. No that is south Essex, although administratively it is not even Essex any more as it is now part of the Thurrock Unitary Authority
  22. Hello 80's weather- Am I correct in thinking that is the Chinese Bridge in your signature? I was involved with the refurbishment works to it a couple of years or so ago. It has a very interesting history. Back on topic, temperate dropping nicely here in north Chelmsford. but still dry. Looking forward to a little snow hopefully later tonight. For Monday we are possibly a little too far north for any meaningfull snow being located in mid Essex, but with such situations it is a forecaster's nightmare and the situation could always change in our favour. Here's hoping. Kind Regards Dave
  23. Hello Steve are you in Hatfield Peverel or at home? . In NW1 not a lot going on. from the 27th floor I see an occassional very small flake pass by, but even that probably does not make it down to the ground! Kind Regards Dave
