  1. Good evening folks. We know that the press and to a certain extent other sectors of the media like to sensationalise to sell copy etc whilst at the same time vested interests produce an equally unbalanced opinion to the other extreme. Please find below a link from what I believe is to be a magazine possibly ering towards the vested interests. Not being an expert I am uncertain who to believe, perhaps the truth lies somewhere between what some of the newspapers are foretelling and what this article is stating. I would be intersted in the views of those far more expert than I. http://www.theregist...ysis/page3.html Whilst writing could I also draw your attention to a message that I have just added to the link below, following our local football club's determination to do what it could to help those currently suffering so badly. It would be wonderful if anyone from Netweather would like to also donate to this very worthy cause. http://forum.netweat...l/page__st__153 Currently the last post in the above thread. Many Thanks Kind regards Dave
  2. On our football club's fans forum a report this morning from one of the fans who lives in Tokyo. Thankfully he and his relations are safe http://chelmsfordcitysoapbox84887.yuku.com/topic/10613/All-Shook-Up
  3. I was uncertain where to post this and if the Mods wish to move it somewhere more appropriate please feel free to do so. Unfortunately I do not have a weather station and so rely on my car temperature guage to see what temperatures are as and when I travel. I hope to purchase a weather station when I retire in a year or so time! So far in Essex the weather has certainly had a cold feel to it since probably mid November. Yesterday it was struggling to exceed 1C. My question is for others in the South East when was the last time we recorded a temperature of 15C. I guess it is probably about 3 months ago. Many thanks in advance for any responce Kind Regards Dave
  4. 1.9 for me please. I believe we may have a milder beginning to the month and anexceptionally cold spell, but the last few days of January returning to average temperatures for the first time since mid November for some folks. Not being a weather expert by any means it will be interesting to see how close I am with my punt for the month!
  5. I heard somewhere that stastically it is more likely to have a white Good Friday than it is a white Christmas Day. Perhaps Mr Data or one of the other knowledgable people on here could kindly advise whether this is true or not. Also in the past have we had an occassion when there has been a white Christmas Day followed by a white Good Friday? Thanks in advance
  6. Yes here in Chelmsford (Mid Essex) it is bone dry too. Hoping for some snow from late Monday onwards, but in the meantime I would likwe to join the No Snow Club please
  7. Just got back today from a week's visit to Lake Como in Italy. On Monday it rained at low level but snowed on the mountain tops and remained there for the remainder of the week., although it was pleasantly warm at lakeside, T shirt weather!
  8. Hello Folks, I am a fence sitter as far as whether we are going to experience global warming or entering a new ice age. What I do feel however is that world resources are finite and therefore we shiould conserve as much as we can and the Government should not use fears of Global warming as a stealth tax. Please see link below re business and others perception. http://www.dpaonthenet.net/article.aspx?ArticleID=37260
  9. started to drizzle about half hour ago here now turned into moderate rain, when do you think the torrential rain could hit or is it not likely to be that bad in essex?
  10. where do you think the highest totals of rain will be tonight? Do we expect anything much for Essex
  11. i',m borowing my dads computer as he is away on holiday in the Scilly Isles. Looking at the charts it looks like it is about to hit them about now do you think they will be in for a deluge their?
  12. what is the likely hood of heavy rain for Chelmsford and if so what is the chances of any storms? This year seemed to have missed out
  13. Many thanks to everyone who took the time out to respond to my earlier post. It is very much appreciated. Kind regards Dave
  14. A Question for the more knowledgeable members on here. As a novice as far as the weather is concerned, but nonetheless very interested in the subject I would like your opinion of the following theory I have. Please dont laugh. My theory goes something like this. The orbit of the earth around the sun is not absolutely constant and when it changes slightly it results in the north pole being exposed more to the sun and thus higher temperatures and less ice being present. At the same time with the earth now being at a different angle the antarctic has less daylight/heat and therefore more ice develops. The weight of the ice causes the tilt of the earth to become more pronounced and therefore increases the angle further and more ice developes around the south pole and less is retained within the arctic. The vicious circle then continues until the natural cycle of the change in orbit is sufficient to counterbalance the factors I have described above. Is the above a possibility or am I writing a load of old tosh. It is not a wind-up it is just something I wondered about for a while now. Any comments would be gratefully received. Many thanks kind regards
  15. Hello Folks, Could you please clarify something for me. I am not sure if I am a member of the No Storms Club or not. There was a thunderstorm in Sprinfield at about 13.30 hours but I was working in Cambridge and although it rained heavily where I was there was no thunder or lightning. Am I disqualified from the No Storms Club or not? Please advise Kind Regards Dave
  16. Very Interesting post GP, To a non-techie like me could you please advise me whether as there will be no polar vortex if this means the winter in the UK is more or less likely to be cold. Many thanks kind regards Dave
  17. Moderators, Please place this elsewhere if you do not consider it to warrant a seperate topic. According to a lady calling into a BBC Essex programme mid morning today she informed the listeners of an incident that occured at approximately 16.05 yesterday afternoon. The lady said that she was involved with the running of a fete in the village of Cressing (between Braintree and Witham). The weather was sunny and quite calm when suddenly a tremendous wind got up lifting several gozebas and tables off the ground as well as their contents. Luckily, she advised noone was seriously hurt, just one lady was slightly injured when she was hit on the head with a table. Fortunately St Johns were in attendence and were able to treat her on site. Several organisations have lost their products that they were selling/displaying as well as the money they collected as it went skywards. A little later an elderly lady called the station from the Prettygate district of Colchester to confirm of a similar incident yesterday afternoon in her garden. Her parasol was lifted many feet into the air and she was unable to retrieve it. Did anyone else in Essex or neighboring counties experience similar events yesterday? Please find atteched a copy of the link to BBC Essex Report http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-10754189 Kind Regards Dave
  18. Raining hard, large thundery drops in Springfield (North east Chelmsford) We were about to light our BBQ but are now waiting to see what transpires. Our next door neighbour is not so lucky he is halfway through his!
  19. You are certainly lucky in Leeds. In Essex today it has been mostly cloudy with a cold northeasterly wind and according to my car thermometer only 4C although it felt a lot colder than that. It would be nice to now get into spring mode!
  20. Although I agree with you to an extent I would put out that here in mid Essex the current temperature is only 2C and so the colder weather has reached southeastern parts and is on it's way westwards although it may be a rather slow process. Looking at the latest models they are certainly programming a potent northerly towards the end of the week. Thursday/Friday looking particularly favourable for us in the east. Thereafter a more nationwide event especially so in the northern districts.
  21. Hello Folks, I am looking forward to then summer evenings with a Spanish Plume present and low pressure in evidence with storms coming over the Channel into Essex. Bring it on!
  22. Now stopped in Springfield (North Chelmsford) after an hour or so of moderatly heavy snow. hopefully more to come in a little while.
  23. Where in Warren Street do you work? I am based in Euston Tower on the corner of Euston Road/ Hampstead Road, but I am working from home today as I had to go out on a site visit in the Thurrock Area this morning and have just returned home. The snow is falling heavily here but as Kold Weather indicated earlier in his neck of the woods (Thurrock) the amount of snow thus far is much less. Looking at the set up from tonight until Monday he looks as if he will be doing well along with the rest of us. Dave
  24. Thanks very much for your reply. I will start getting ready to leave now
  25. Still snowing moderatley heavy in North Springfield.Has been since about 07.00 hours. Question for Kold if I may. I have to go down to your area for a meeting at Ockendon School for 11.00 and so I will be stting off just after 10.00. Is there much snow down your way and also if the meeting lasts for a couple of hours am i likely to get snowed in, or do you believe that the snow we are now having will not spread that far south. Thanks in anticiation Kind regards Dave
