  1. Good afternoon folks. I don't visit or post on this topic much these days but thought I would throw in a quick report from my temporary location here in Fairlight/Hastings, East Sussex. What Fulham Snow describes in his post is a pretty accurate assessment of what I witnessed this afternoon. Earlier this afternoon I sat on the seafront at Hastings and above me were mostly blue skies. Looking out to sea I could see the towers building over the French Coast, with a promising sign that they were rapidly heading our way. I drove to the Firehills for a better viewpoint. By the time I completed the 15 minute drive to the Firehills they were shrouded with a dull drizzly murk, and the temperature had dropped from 22c to 14c. The sun is out again now so hopefully still a chance of some convection later, but I fear the South East is doomed to miss out despite all the promising signs from a few days ago. Still an outside chance for later today though hopefully. Good luck to all, especially those who wish for storms and still regularly visit and post on this regional thread. BB54
  2. I'm about 5 miles south of your location.....in Northwood. It looks as though this feature is just a few miles to our east so areas like Harrow, Wembley, Hendon, Enfield etc may see something as it heads roughly SW to NE across the Capital. I haven't picked up any sferics on my MW radio but the sky looks very potent to my east, and the wind is now gusting quite strongly. This one seems to have popped up from nowhere. NB:Welcome to Netweather by the way Homerr. Can you put you location in your profile please, it's useful for folk trying to follow live events. Cheers.
  3. Just about sums it up for the whole of this week here. Not only is it boring, it's depressing
  4. Hello Cap'n. Well thankfully here we managed to avoid all the rain that has occurred to our north and east up up until about 20 minutes ago but it's here now. Quite apart from the pathetically low temperatures (12.4c yesterday, 12.9c today ) and complete lack of sunshine, it's the extraordinary low daytime light levels that are really starting to get me down. I have had to have my living room light on both afternoons just to be able to see my keyboard clearly or be able to read.
  5. Bank Holiday Monday. Here in the north west London suburbs it's rained in 11 out of the last 12 hours and reached a blistering 12.4c. Pitiful doesn't even begin to describe it.
  6. Blimey Buckster, you and me clearly have very different definitions of 'very warm' and 'hot'. The Met Office reports for Chelmsford were 11.7c at 9am and 14.4c at 10am.
  7. Checking in a bit late to confirm lightning and a few rumbles of thunder here in Northwood earlier ( around 3pm ). That came as a nice suprise. It's been a a good few days here.
  8. Lassie are your sure you live in north WEST London mate ?! It's all kicked off again here and to my east Edit: I saw your latest post after I had posted this. Glad to see you finally joined the club !
  9. Thunder. lightning and heavy rain at the moment in north west London. If you have Sky Sports it might be worth tuning in to the the Derby v Qpr play off final. Kick off is at 3pm and this storm is in the vicinity
  10. Hello Lassie. Of the 4 storms I saw in total only one passed almost overhead and that rattled through at a fair rate of knots. I set off in the car but couldn't keep up with it. The largest of the storms was the last one and that was to my east, more towards Wembley, Harrow way I would think. Quite an afternoon.
  11. My attempts at filming the storms were a bust thanks to traffic and a distinct lack of viewpoints where I could park up and film but my word, what a day that was for spectacular thunderstorms around here. I vote that an 8.5/10
  12. From my very limited knowledge Lauren it's best to try and film lightning with the auto focus function off.
  13. No idea how you managed to miss them all Lassie, did you spend all afternoon in an underground bunker ?! I had 4 separate storms within a 5-10 mile radius of me here in Northwood, including one which went right overhead. They were proper storms as well with blinding CG strikes and booming thunder.
  14. Three distinctly separate thunderstorms passed very close to here earlier this afternoon so after the first one I tried to give chase. It's hopeless trying though. It's so frustrating when I've had my cameras charged up all week and on the day it all goes bang I get stuck in traffic every which way and trying to stop and get a decent viewpoint is nigh on impossible. I did eventually manage to park up for a few minutes at a spot which has views right across towards Central London. On a clear day it's possible to see the Shard from there, some 19 miles away. I watched storm number 3 sweep across the London area firing off some massive CG's. Unfortunately the rain was so heavy that filming the storm from outside the car was impossible, and I couldn't position the car to be able to film through the windscreen.
