  1. Is it me, or does the path of the current snow falling over the UK resemble a tornado? It looks really weird (but awesome!) As for those north of London - our turn will come in a few hours. The snow seems to be heading slowly north by my reckoning.
  2. Thanks mate. Hope you get loads of snow too! 15cm by 10 am would be awesome! I wonder if we are due any more in the south east after midday - anyone know?
  3. Anyone, do you reckon the 5-10 cm for east herts looks about right?
  4. I read on the BBC news website (and elsewhere on the Internet) that the negative AO is the principal cause of the unusually cold conditions so far this winter (not sure what this is exactly - excuse my ignorance!). Is the AO likely to stay negative for the considerable future, bringing with it the chance for more prolonged cold?
  5. Looks very promising now for East Herts according to the latest met office rainfall radar imo.
  6. Might be wrong, but looks like the heaviest stuff is heading right for East Herts!
  7. Does that mean places like East Herts are not likely to get much/anything? Would welcome any predictions/comments.
  8. Kold weather, what do you think the chances are for, say, East Herts over the next few days?
  9. This has definitely gone further east than expected. I think, particularly eastern midlands, could get a lot more than forecasted. Even london is supposed to get heavy snow around 5 pm today according to the news, i am informed.
  10. It's not a done deal yet, guys. Look at how much further inland and developed the latest met office radar currently has the snow when compared to the BBC's own forecast at 00:00 hours! It seems they either underestimated the intensity/amount of precip, or it is much faster moving than they expected. Either way, it just goes how to show how nothing is impossible, even at this late stage.
  11. I think expectations go way out of proportion. Even if it snowed 30cm, people would want 50/60 cms. Either way, I'm sure we'll get some tomorrow - just a question of how much.
  12. Actually Yamkin's claims seem more than reasonable considering the current models and forecasts. I don't think he is trying to wind people up: just reporting the current warnings for the south east. Either way guys - realise that snow is very much a nowcast situation. With the cold persisting, I'd be willing to bet that we'll get some snow at some point in the South east - just a question of when imo.
  13. Caution though: just because the current models/charts suggest the precip will head west, doesn't mean to say it will! There is always time for things to change, and until you find your area being hammered with snow, don't take anything for granted! Several hours of rainfall radar watching to come.
  14. Well, I am going to make one bold prediction - it will either go east or west.
  15. The precip over north-west england definitely looks more intense (and fast-moving) than the BBC forecasted. It has already moved inland, which it wasn't forecasted to do for quite a few more hours yet? Could this be a sign that the snow will be more intense and widespread than first predicted - and hence, moves further east? Let;s hope so.
  16. BTW has anyone noticed the band of snow/precip that is intensifying other the north-west of england, moving south eastwardards? I don't think this was forecasted, and may fizzle out before reaching the south-east, but worth keeping an eye on. P.S maybe this was the first band of precip that was forecasted. Seems a tad early though
  17. That's looking less and less likely according to the latest forecasts/outputs. Still time for that to change though.
  18. It does seem that the risk of heavy snowfall seems to have receded somewhat in the southeast. Take a look at the latest rainfall radar http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/pws/invent/weathermap/. It doesn't seem to want to push the snow back much on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning either! Still, things can quite easily change. I certainly wouldn't get hopeful about the weekend, as near certain snowfall only has to shift ever so slightly and it's a non-event. I would instead concentrate on the short-term (i.e. tomorrow) as things can still change for the better.
  19. Thanks. That is a relief to think even us in East Herts will get something perhaps bordering on significant.
  20. Yeah, I've no doubt that most places, including the East Midlands, will get some significant snowfall tomorrow. My question was really about Wednesday, as it would be great if the snow could spread further inland, thus giving people a bit further west more snowfall.
  21. Do you think it's quite possible/likely that the snow will reach further inland on Wednesday, say to East Herts, TEITS?
  22. Ah, I see. Thanks for that. I must say that the overall situation regarding the outlook (both short/medium and long-term) is awesome. I feel such a plonker for being greedy a few days back by saying that I'd take good short-term snowfall/prospects over long-term cold. I guess I never thought a scenario like this was possible.
  23. I'm confused. According to this morning's BBC forecast, the bulk of the precipitation Tuesday will be of RAIN instead of snow. There was nothing in the way of snow for Wednesday in the South East/East Anglia/the East Midland, except for the most easterly coastal parts around Kent/South of East Anglia. This is seems at odds with what the charts and everything is showing! The medium/long-term looks promising, however. It looks likely that it will stay very cold until at least the 17th or 18th.
  24. Met office warning now out for the south east during tonight and tomorrow. It seems that snow is likely now.
