  1. The MetOffice reckon north Wales is at risk from snow showers late Thursday into Friday:

    Yellow Alert of Snow08 Dec 2011, 18:00

    Issued at - 06 Dec 2011, 13:44

    Valid from - 08 Dec 2011, 18:00

    Valid to - 09 Dec 2011, 23:59

Snow showers are expected late on Thursday and through Friday. The public should be aware that these will be heavy at times, and may give significant accumulations that could disrupt travel. Gale or severe gale force northwesterly winds will accompany the snow showers, perhaps leading to drifting over high ground, but these winds will slowly moderate during Friday.

  2. Met office not mentioning anything at all interesting for Wales over the next few days nor indeed towards the end of the year. My father in law has said that he's concerned with a mild start to the winter as it often leads to a cold and snowy second half. Any comments? We've had a couple of cracking winters, but so far this one is looking like a David Cameron-esque "damp squib".

I wouldn't say a 'damp squib'... It's only early December and already we have a north westerly producing showers of rain, sleet and snow. Last year was a very one off, and remember that most of the snow was only before christmas.

We usually get most of our snow in Wales in Jan or Feb so there's loads of time yet.

  3. Just out of curiosity, next year I hope to go to Aberystwyth Uni, how does that area normally do for snow over winter?

Aberystwyth does well for snow when we have northerlies and northwesterlies due to the irish sea, as snowstormjamie has said. However, we do very badly from snow coming from the east, because the cambrian mountains block weather coming from the east. In an easterly set up, sunny and cold conditions is what we normally get. I grew up near and around Aber and from the late 90s to about 2007/08 ish there was very little snow, but in recent years we have been very lucky :) Also the coastal position means we miss out on a lot of marginal situations. It is very common in winter to have snow about 10 miles east of Aber in the hills and nothing at all in the town itself.

  4. amazing - mystery how they can put so much detail on the forecast at such distance away from it - we'll just have to see - a good guess- complete miss - or good science

yeah I know what you mean lol. But they do seem to be quite accurate. They predicted the last two cold winters and they said last summer would be wet at the same time met office said barbecues at the ready. Anyway, I hope everyone has a brilliant St Davids day tomorrow =) I certainly wont with courseworks at school and the dentist.

  5. this looks like a beast to watch out for

"Wales: Ceredigion Conwy Denbighshire Flintshire Gwynedd Isle of Anglesey Powys Wrexham

    Heavy Snow

Wed 24 FebThere is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting parts of the UK. Rain spreading north may turn to snow and has the potential to give accumulations of more than 15 cm of fresh snow in places.

Issued at: 1042 Sat 20 Feb" - MET OFFICE

  6. you were - the met office have a warning out for you tonight and into tomorrow morning

Very short notice, it would be nice if the metoffice warns us more than 5 hours in advance, im not being funny but it is dangerous for poeple who have to travel at night. A lot of local people round here know which roads not to take when the weather is bad.
