Thunder again here
dark clouds gathering with some bright flashes
-
Last night was not fun! Got barely any sleep due to all the thunder and lightning between 3 and 6 am!
Looks like we're about to enter a different 'phase' of winter soon according to the model output, exciting times ahead

Raining here
-
Not gonna lie I'm pretty scared of lightning gonna be a long night just hope we get some snow
-
Anyone else in Cardiff noticed how the lightning is really blue?

Need evaporative cooling to take effect, this is pretty heavy stuff, and we're only a few degrees above freezing.

Heavy rain and suddenly very windy here now.

Lots of lightning in Cardiff atm, not much precipitation though.

Just had a massive flash of lightning!
Just saw that as well - was quite dramatic!

What are the odds of snow at low levels in the Cardiff/Barry area?
Given the reports of snow in places in like Pembroke and Llanelli, I'd say it's pretty likely to see some flakes (though probably nothing substantial) in the Cardiff area but not until later this evening. I may be wrong though.

Meanwhile in Cardiff: Mostly sunny with a few light rain showers. Doesn't even feel very cold :S

Hello everyone, good to be back on here again! Hope you're all having a great Christmas :-)
Currently cold rain here in Aberystwyth, very boring.
-
Very noisy in Cardiff last night, lots of hail and thunder.
-
Exciting stuff guys I expect many places will see flakes even if there's no settling going on.

Interesting times ahead, such a mild and wet winter so far and now there are some signs of a change afoot with different air-masses having increasing influence near or over the UK.
-
Apparently there's potential for snow around the south west on Monday, possibly affecting south Wales (from Ian F)

I'm a bit sceptical about the whole '100% rain away from northern high ground' scenario that's being worshipped in the model thread. More of a mixture of rain, sleet and snow even in the south IMHO.

Aber prom has taken a really bad hit from these storms:
-
And so we enter August.... I wonder if this year it'll be another monsoon season.
-
I also heard one rumble earlier in the day Tony, probably the same one you heard

Today was my perfect day weatherwise i.e. mostly sunny with temps in the low twenties. I do like the sun but the heat is too much as I work in a warehouse, 23-24C suits me fine
-
Aye, way too hot. Never seen such a long queue for ice cream on the promenade.
-
26c so soon! 30c very likely..
Will we get a 30 in Ceredigion today you reckon?

There's a good analysis here from the BBC about what's happening early next week http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/feeds/30824978?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc_weather&ns_source=twitter&ns_linkname=news_central
Notice how they mention the front coming off the Atlantic probably won't have enough 'energy' to displace the cold air and allow mild air through.
