thanks Greeny
can't see a thing now we are in the midst of it
epic set of storms - best in years here

a number of bits of scud seemed to sheer off the bottom of the cloud, and you could definately see it rotating
it lowered lower and lower, but then before it could form into anything it started ascending back into the cloud
stonking storm now we're int he middle of it - very loud thunder

what seemed shelf cloud esque on 2nd set of storms through Chelmsford
notable rotation - I'm sure one bit of scud was "having a go" but didn't form into anything
-
fantastic storm just passed through Chelmsford
nice fun one - lots of C-C -lots of grumbly thunder - fun - absolutely torrential rain

nothing to take a photo of unfortunately
nothing really visible even in the distance - towering Cu wise
Stansted was very very low cloud- in fact our flight was delayed 20 mins due to visibility at Stansted

great forecast as always Nick cheers
was there not another set of storms that came over from the East to hit Essex etc more recent than 2001 ?
or am I really that old that 15 years has passed that quick!
-
glad I wasn't missing something obvious - thanks very much for the quick response - much appreciated

any ideas please ?

Essex and Kent had some fantastic May storms a few years back that came in from a near Easterly direction
so fingers crossed

pretty rubbish photos - sorry - but a few from passing by the Meso last night on a flight from Southend to Barcelona
we were at a cruising altitude of 38,000 feet so the cloud tops must have been pretty high

Flew right past Meso
Good lightning display got a couple of pics but hard with cabin lights
When we went through the system no close lightning but as we went through cloud which I guess was a developing storm we had St Elmos fire shooting up from a point on wing. I'm guessing probably on cockpit too as at that moment pilot asked for seat belts to be put on
Was rough but only for about a minute or two so we were quite lucky turbulence wise

Been humid last two weeks in Barc and three occasions of Cape in the thousands and LI below -5
One TS grazed us that was it !
Just goes to show that you still need a trigger
Did see the monster (supercell maybe) way way off in distance (over 100 miles away) on Blitz looked crazy
Ws last week and over mid South France somewhere
-
Any idea on expected timing for uk please ?
On a flight home from Barcelona to Southend later to land at Southend about 10.30pm
Hoping that will be before ad wouldn't like to cross through a Meso !
-
Indeed, not wanting to spark though sadly.
nope - we've another round of convective rain here now
sounds like heavy droplets so it is trying !
-
Lovely shot...one to send to the BBC I reckon
23:15 radar slightly better Harry
some convection at least
-
in Chelmsford we've had about 10 mins of "medium" rain - thats it
oh well - still plenty of summer left
and I'm off to Barcelona in August - so maybe a chance then !
-
you can practically see the line on the radar where there should be decent convection essex, kent, brighton - but just not happening
looks like out of luck
-
It's looking like a bust for SE England
nothing was predicted to be this early
still looks good to me
-
I doubt if ESTOFEX are having a laugh. They issued a Level 2 for N. England for July 1 and were spot on with their forecast of large hail and severe wind gusts and were spot on! On many other occasions on both sides of the channel their forecasts have been very accurate. Those guys know what they are talking about.
agreed - of course they're not going to arbitrarily stick a Level 2 over the S-East
they'll have carefully considered it - and like you said from past experience they are often spot on
-
still pretty crazy in Essex
just had quite a deluge rain wise - still plenty of lightning
-
last cell Harry - about the most active its been all night atm ?
-
oooh still going - even crazier now !

being going on for hours now !
