  1. rolleyes.gif so what caused all the snowy spells in the 60s and 70s here. when drfiting was bad and and snow up to windows then. it was thse scenarios, also every system is different. Just because you recall systems only getting to sheffield doesn'tmean this always going to be the routine because somehow or someday a low to the south will pusher higher than sheffield supposedly. i just don't see how we could have got all that snow back then if it wasn't for a low to the south.

come on even if it is like that, lets hope it makes it to north yorkshire and stalls, we could have two days of long spells of snow.

met office is saying 10 to 20cm, but these scenarios can cause over a foot or more plus you have drifting. i take it they are trying to be safe first, rather than over predicting amounts? certainly if it comes off we should acheive more snow than last week.

lets hope it makes it to north yorkshire n stalls!!

  2. sorry but these systems were the ones that brought huge dumps of snow here when my mum was a child. so i don't see how these systems always have to never reach much above the humberrolleyes.gif

they never really seem to get above sheffield. hes right. i remember three occasions in the space of a week a few years bk when the precipitation pushed north but became lighter in nature and kinda stalled over south yorkshire giving the leeds area occasional flurries

  3. Morning all, still snow cover here. Thawing all the time as its raining but just hoping it makes it through to tonight to freeze again. dont knw wht to make of the following week really. Looked promising esp after the itv weather last night warning of severe weather across the country next week but the moels dnt really seem to have a clue so its all in the balance. Wouldnt we all just love some very heavy snowfall though for a change

  4. a question for the more experienced please. How come we just dont see weather conditions such as severe prolonged cold weather and snowy days like so many of our older generation have experienced in years gone by. I knw the charts werent as updated as now but they still must have picked up on a trend, showed dream synoptics and then FOLLOWED them through but now when we nearly have cross model agreement and persistant trends to very cold snowy weather and then even the forecasters sticking their heads out only for the next day models to downgrade and lose their potential? The models seem to, infact everytime we have a cold spell the models just drain it out. This often didnt use to be the case so whts gone wrong? and this cannot be put down to global warming. Once a mild, very wet spell looks to get established -it does! and without any real let downs either!! Grateful for any replies adam

  5. the problem i see is tht yes the greenland high is in place etc -its just a shame tht in this day n age with technology we still cant accurately predict the weather! Without agreeing with him wht snowlover sed about next week would have been incredible if it had only come off like the models had projected it to but sadly as is always the case the models just seem to downgrade any wintry event for us and bring us bk to more stable drab weather. Yes this cold spell has been good but it really hasnt been anything special like previous decades gone by which is such a shame!! but maybe we expect too much? all tht most on here would be happy with is a week of bitterly cold temps, blizzards, heavy snow and clear blue sky days. And all we ask is just 1week out of a year. Not a problem when its mild hey. I mean one thing tht frustrates me is tht places such as newyrk are about to get pasted again! its not so complex for them like it is for us is it!!

Temps way higher than predicted. look north/charts had max 3/4c today -way out. i would have thought with still a bit of snow cover temps would still be lower but seems not. Bet the pennines are still stuck in deep deep snow??

  6. well morning all. hope all had a good christmas n not rushing for the sales.sunshine and a fairly rapid thaw taking place here in shadwell/alwoodley after a rainy night. Temps look like being much higher than predicted sadly so doubt any snow will survive into next week like i originally had thought. suppose i shud knw by now lol tht the forecasts never seem to be accurate in this day n age.

P.s. Snowlover n those adamant on snow next week-looks like i was spot on. Very diminishing chance of snow n freezing conditions now as like i said it was still 5days plus away and was always gona change as it was too good to be true. Shouldnt speak too soon ey :)

  7. Are you sure it is raining? No rain here, and reports of it not raining in other parts of Leeds, so zero thaw here.

Also you were complaining on Wednesday night that we were going to get nothing and we got 10cm+ so expect surprises.

yep its raining but lighter. Like you say at least we didnt get tht torrential rain! I knw i just had a feeling tht we would hav been let dwn once again! but i said tht it would intensify as it hit yorkshire and it did. The shower tht followed the following morning was unexpected though want it. That was a nice suprise. AND BY THE WAY HOPE EVEYONE HAS HAD A GOOD CHRISTMAS SO FAR :)

  8. snowlover you aint made me tiny dont worry. i probs hav a broader knowledge of you as i am studying it and hav worked alongside paul hudson and am only 24!! so chill your boots man. Next week will be downgraded significantly just you wait n see and then i would like to see wht you have to say! taking the charts as gospel at 3days plus is plain ludacris! Theres a 'trend' and a 'forecast'. Anywayz i'm not gona argue anymore so you cn keep going off on 1 if you want. raining and thawing sadly. would hav been nice to keep the snowcover through the wekend but hey was good

  9. 10123 whts goin on with you??raining too? are you nearly in tears like me lol -how cn this happen. yes i knw uppers etc buit i hav NEVVER seen this happen when theres frost still on roofs n cars n then poors dwn with rain to wash it away!! i seen much more marginal situations! like sumone sed earlier doubt any if much snow next week. We would still hav had this cover but thanks to the rain!!

  10. I think youve made good points againts it snowing.

As shown on Thursday morning even during very marginal conditions we saw snow, In Leeds center where it is flat and low down (30m) with heat from the tall building Leeds still saw snow, and those conditions were even on the wrong side of marginal and snow stuck (5cm of fresh snow) and the snow is still there today. So maybe some surprises in store.

i hope because otherwise there will be a few sad faces to end christmas day!! plz plz plz. bbc n met say yes but gfs say no!! AND WE DNT WANT FREEZING RAIN

  11. Little thaw today, will take alot to get rid of this lot, max of 2.1c today which again is way higher that the forecast high of -1.c, but this has happened every day this week, haven't had a sub zero week since last Friday. Currentley -1.4c.

    ...........

Anyway the rain (snow?) band tonight is further East than predicted by the BBC.

Current radar shows the PPN over central Wales post-8968-12617647568513_thumb.jpg

The forecast was for the PPN only to skim Wales post-8968-12617648531013_thumb.jpg

More info look at the radar http://www.metoffice...ent/weathermap/

the question is mate will it be rain or snow. this morning they forecasted snow but this afternoon they say rain n sleet but on bbc shows big area of snow to north and on met office says rain sleet n snow -so where we stand!! i really really hope that tyhis does not turn out to be rain because if so it will ruin and destroy a nice snowcover we had! why its so cold!! any thoughts??
