  1. yes its nice to have a persistent snow cover but like footage just shown on look north showed previous harsh winters bringing plenty of snow after snow topping up the covering! The deeper the snow the longer it lasts. The snow we hav will jst gradually thaw n thaw to the point where theres very little!!whistling.gifcc_confused.gif

Whats annoyed me however is the fact that the bbc n paul hudson have continuously said 'theres more to come' 'persistent heavy snow showers' snow moving in etc! and all have been WRONG! I dnt like the way they build up hopes only to destriy them

  2. i dnt understand why everyones so happy. Yes we have a lovely deep snow cover but looking at the news and synoptics you'd think we have a good few feet of snow! we had a great dumping at the beginning of the week only for the rest of this week to be bone dry and lack of precip!! In severe winters gone by they've had persistant and at times prolonged snow!! so there is nothing to look forward to in terms of snow sadly as temps will very slowly start to rise. This cold spell is slowly sliding from under us!!

  3. Too me it looks like your in prime position over the coming few days. I would not be too dis-heartened regarding the BBC forecasts. Forecasting snow especially with so much instability and so many different flows can be very very tricky. Last night was an example, the way the flow switched so quickly sending heavy snow showers over East Yorkshire and sinking South Westwards into NW Lincolnshire.

The potential is there, certainly all the ingredients.

May i ask how much snow you have on ground up to now? As for as I'm concerned you have done very well compared to other parts of the region.

  4. Off topic I know, but I'm really missing the input from our more 'valued' members, one or two are dropping in now and then which is appreciated, but certainly not with the frequency I have become accustomed to over the years. It's a real shame, but I can perhaps understand why they are not frequenting this thread at the moment.

ecm looking good!! very good out to 144

  5. hey mate,

Showers will start to push more South now, as the low pressure edges further SW. Could be a few more showers tonight but mainly confined to eastern coastal parts. Temps down to around -6 around here, metoffice/bbc go for -9 but i doubt that's going to happen here.

As we head into the morning, showers will become more widespread, especially around East Yorkshire, NE lincs. More heavy showers too for areas like the Lincs Wolds.

Saturday - More showers once again, with sunday a possible prolonged spell of snowfall for eastern parts again pushing up from the SE. Although it could be marginal for some areas on sunday (although the way things keep upgrading i doubt it very much).

I'll be heading out soon for some lunch and im looking around at offices. If you need out drop me a PM and i'll reply when i get back.

Hi because a soon as temps start to rise in the sun light, and you get some cloud cover, dews rise slightly too and so does your wet bulb temperature, this is whats needed stop a thaw at the surface.

    thanks for explaining

  6. i have to admit i think paul hudson will be a littlr dissapointed in himself really as yes he predicted the snow the other night (however not the amounts tht fell) but thereafter his forecast was for persistant heavy and at times prolonged snow showers for the rest of the week with today looking notoriously bad. However this hasnt quite panned out as today is quite the opposite like yesterday and tonight/tomorrow i really cant see many snow showers pushing in land as the frequently updated bbc met forecasts keep changing there graphics. The weekend doesnt look too promising in my opinion. I think any snow will be to the south and a slight thaw under cloud cover up here. However cant complain about the cold temps and current snow cover and i know a few to the east are recieving one or two heavy snow showrs

  7. Last night oxford got down to -18, but manchester also got down to -15. what i really do not get is why many rural parts of yorkshire keep getting relativly mild temps at night compared to some cities what are recording doubledigit minus numbers. tonight on bbc site, it is saying -9 and -10 for next two nights, so i keep the faith. anyway does anyone know how cold it got in yorkshire last night?

    leeds -6c

    yeadon -6c

    leeming -8c around tht

    north east leeds -9c

And actually greater manchester area got down to -18c. truely astonishing!! tht SURELY must provide problems of its own. I think generally we are not having such cold temps because we have a slight influence from the east such as a stronger breeze and the odd patch of cloud cover however oterside of the pennines are very sheltered with no cloud or breeze. hope that helps
