Slightly intensifying south west of Birmingham?
-
...and even the kitchen sinkizzle!.....
Bang! And the snizzles' gone.
-
How come that looks so different to the other met office radar?
Because the colours mean different values and it's been digitally smoothed. (ie: it's less accurate!)

If the band carries on at the same speed, I reckon it'll reach Halesowen by 10:30.
-
Maybe the front on it hasn't progressed but that's because it was very weak and would go anyway. The main intense bit has definately moved east.
-
BBC News just put Birmingham under snow (albeit light) from midnight untill 3pm...! (good luck with that)
Gonna wait untill the local one as it's usually more accurate.
-
My map ealier still stands.
Anyway, in the longer term, this will probably be the last effort of snow before a mild blip. Then hopefully another cold spell!
-
Still hasn't stalled yet - if it doesn't, it'd reach me by 18:30! (Which it certainly won't!)
-
Just been looking, it seems to have hit Cardiff 2 hours early. Not that it'll make any impact here, though.
-
...2-8mm per hour in snow terms is considerable if it stays a few hours!!
Whoops! I meant that to be 2-4mm total for the 3 hours itself!
Oh well, I live and learn.
-
Oh well. I can always hope!
-
Right then. I think it's close enough now (less than 1 day) to start drawing a map.
This is for between 5 and 8 am tommorrow, and you'll notice that I've 'commandeered' the Met Office's new (but not proper) colour scheme.
Bear in mind that it's all based on what I think will happen. It's not taken from anywhere else, so don't blame anyone (or blame me, either).
I think it's quite reasonable, considering what's currently over the south-west!
-
I pretty sure that this'll weaken by a deal before it even reaches the far West Midlands. I hope not though, I'm hoping to see some settling snow.
-
Thanks for that radar image. In fact, I'm just up the Hagley Road from you in Harborne. That is pretty amazing to have measured a foot...surely that must have been due to drifts?????
Yes, it does seem to be deeper over there than everywhere else. Probably because of the fence and high trees beside it that cause the snow to bury itself underneath them
This had made my winter since it's been ever such a while since I've witnessed snow right next to me like this.
-
Right, absolute last post.
Last chance of snow for the immediate future, it's time for "Back to Business - Part 5"
EDIT:
I can also confirm that I can measure just over 1 whole foot of snow across my road in the garden beside one of my neighbour's houses (they have meter sticks to hold come plants up!) The stick's definately more than a third submerged now (and since 1 foot = 30.48 cm).
That spot is where (it seems) absolutely no snow has melted at all since before last week.
So... let's see. I know just under 5 inches fell there on Tuesday, so that means that more than 1 inch fell during this spell. Or at least over there, it seems to have it's own sort of 'drift effect'!
-
Sorry, I'm just back to report that there is a gobsmacking amount of snow falling right now! Absolutely incredible. I swear 2 cm have accumulated in 5 minutes.
-
Forget what I said about it lasting an hour. It'll last in Halesowen untill about 3am!
Anyway, this snow's keeping me awake far too late. Gnight all!
-
Glad someone else from this area is reporting it aswell. About 20-25min ago, regardless of what the Radar was showing, the snow came down very heavily. Just a quick observation outside the front of the house and I would say 1-2cm of fresh snow has fallen with tree branches wrapped in white, making it look picturesque. Has almost stopped falling now. Wow, that's the second time I've been lucky this last week for snowfall! :)
Just wondering, may it have been this?
-
It's going west and slightly north.
To give a good idea of how long it'll stay, Halesowen has at most another hour of it.
-
I know, it's fantastic when things like this happen.
It's getting heavier here now... can I almost see a blizzard? It's certainly tring to drift at the least. The front of some cars have a lot more snow on the side facing the falls!
-
Just thought I'd make a quick report: Very heavy snow for the last 30-45min, everywhere is covered! Absolute sheet of white out there!
Edit: Truly incredible snowfall here, the intensity just increases by the minute!
Hmm... looking at what it says you have on the radar, I should be seeing something like it soon!
But it's at the end and after that it'll be all over.
-
Turned quite heavier now. I'd say it has collected at least 3cms now.
-
Here in Halesowen it's becoming hard to distinguish the parts on the road that didn't have any snow on them frm the bits that had now. I feel sorry for the people who had snow thawing earlier, almost nothing happened here.
Got more snow than I was expecting this morning!

The front line of the precip is dieing (was going to anyway), but the general movement is still eastwards so it'll take just a tad longer to get to us near Birmingham.
