  1. Lets not forget people that the storms coming out of France could intensify further, in which case I think they would become large enough to cross the SE of England. But if they remain as they are I fear they will just miss us and head through the straits of Dover........ Should get a good view if your on a channel ferry though .
  2. The barrier BB is designed for both eventualities........ A) To prevent tidal flooding........ Storm surge together with high especially spring tides normally coupled with N/E winds. B)To prevent flooding caused by spring tides combined with high river flow. We have the possibility of the later at the moment in which case they close the barrier at low tide creating an artificial reservoir for the flood water flowing down the Thames, in turn the barrier keeps out the spring tide keeping levels to the west of the barrier much lower than normal. I personally think there is a chance the barrier could close at some stage this weekend IMHO of course. I hope this helps.
  3. Please correct me if I am wrong SB but I thought your neck of the woods did quite well early January, I'm sure Camberley had at least 15cms and that's not to far away from you is it?
  4. It's very quiet on here tonight....... I have noticed that the Met office and BBC have forecast sod all snow for my area tomorrow and Wednesday, so working on the basis that they have cocked up big time in the last week or so. I better prepare for blizzards, 6 ft drifts, minus 10 and severe gales!
  5. I like a conspiracy theory...... so lets try this one for size. It has been reported that a lot of councils only have salt stocks sufficient for a 6 day cold spell but the highways agency have supplies for 13 days. I think it would be fair to say local councils have had to reduce their stocks to save money as per central government instructions to cut public sector spending. The government to cover up this inadequacy instructs both the BBC & Met office (who both seem to be government lap dogs), to ramp up this cold spell as much as possible to stave off any further criticism. Has anybody else noticed that every news report fails to mention how localised the real severe weather is........ I wonder why? Feel free to shoot me down in flames!
  6. This is not a moan but I must admit it has been a frustrating few days especially today as they have at least 10 cm's less than 4 miles to the east, while we have managed just 2 ( better than many people I know). At the start of January it was looking really good with the models showing the possibility of a real winter for once and although it hasn't been great for all of us there are plenty who have had their best wintry spell for many years. So chin up everyone enjoy what we have/havn't got and don't forget, some of us may have a slight thaw but this cold block is going to take a fair bit of shifting and I cannot see a return to mild temps for a while yet. P.S There might even be a sting in its tail! P.P.S I could also be very wrong!!
  7. It had to happen sooner or later and that slight change in wind direction made all the difference, only 5 mins worth but at least it was snow. Going to bed a tad happier now. Night everyone.
  8. Spot on Snow Raven........ Wishful thinking on my part.
  9. Stop beating yourself up about it Chris....... I have. Sometimes it just isn't meant to be and it looks like this spell is one of them however annoying it is. I have written off this cold spell and I'm waiting for the next one. Roll on 2011!!!!
  10. Never thought of that...... I have 10 cm's after all then! LOL
  11. Your in south east now...... but I suppose there is nothing to stop you being in east Anglia........ If that makes any sense.
  12. I like the way you say KENT we in north west Kent I.E Gravesend Greenhithe, Northfleet, etc have seen very little a couple of cm's max IMBY.
  13. Agreed........ The annoying thing is tho we keep being told the easterly just a couple of day's away, but it never actually arrives. this has been going on a while now and very frustrating. It's arrival will probably coincide with milder temps and we'll get rain!! Moan over..... Lets look forward to tonight we might just get lucky.
  14. A couple of small flakes again Chris we might be lucky eh?
  15. Its eased up a bit in my neck of the woods too......... Hopefully just a little blip.
