  1. Well we got Tuesday out the way without putting the stove on, but it's been back on ever since. Wet, cold and grey and 6.8C.
  2. Remarkable is the perfect word, not only because we've got these temperatures but because it's been soooooooooo long. Quite amazing spell of weather really when you consider what winter 2011/12 and the subsequent first half of Spring were like. Same here....almost. Lit it first thing this morning expecting another cool day but had to let it burn out by lunchtime 'cause it was too warm
  3. The hex is broken! Hovering around 14C which means this wee corner of Fife has recorded its first 'teen' temperature in 217 days!!
  4. When I pulled the blinds this morning I was greeted with a beautiful sunny morning ........ and then stepped outside to find it was bloody freezing! Colder than yesterday despite all that rain! Now 7.8C with a strong, cold wind. Still waiting to record my first 13C since 30th September. Maybe this weekend??
  5. Heavens! 2.3C here and in that last prolonged shower the sleet was definitely verging on snow at times. Bonkers! Beautifully clear air out there though
  6. Quite a nice day here in the end with lovely warm sunshine and.....yep, a gale blowing. Nice day for chopping wood though High of 12.5C so still waiting for the temps to get into the teens. In fact, just having checked the record for the past few months and we've not had 13C here since.......<gasp>........30th September!!!
  7. Looks like this howling is here to stay for the week. After friendly easterlies only pestering the window-less exterior walls on that side we now have a southerly screaming to come through the front door. The windows are whistling 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' or some such. Amazing to see how dry the ground was this afternoon in spite of the drenching it got overnight.
  8. And it smells amazing! It's got that fresh 'hasn't rained in weeks' smell about it.
  9. Yes that's the worst part about these changes to mild weather. You always have to endure a day or two of fretting whilst the hairdriers do their worst. On the plus side, the snowpack really does need a thaw (and then hopefully a freeze) to allow it to consolidate. The avalanche risk has been high for so long now and it'd be nice to have it downgraded
  10. So that's it. The last day of calm before normal service is resumed. I think I'll save myself some effort and lodge a default 'when will it stop raining?' comment here for the next six months. See you in October!
  11. I could do with some rain to clear all the crap off the windows. Never thought I'd say that!
  12. Scraped yet another 'falling snow' day here with the lightest of dustings before the sun got to work. Madness!
  13. A few weeks ago I posted a photo of me sat in a rudimentary snow hole I happened upon in Fife. I returned to the same spot yesterday for the first time since all that heavy snow and drifting.......and found it had been enlarged somewhat Amazing what you can find if you stray from the tourist paths eh?
  14. Thanks Yep it's more sad news from the Highlands in an unusually bad year for hill fatalities. Fingers crossed that this one still has a happy outcome.
  15. The daffodils this morning: This time last year these had been in bloom for weeks!
  16. Yes that's a good point. No daffs out here yet and there are still carpets of snowdrops everywhere. In April!!??
  17. It may be cold at the moment and even colder in that biting easterly wind, but find some shelter and some sunshine and you can definitely find Spring out there. It was absolutely glorious sitting on the beach at Pittenweem this afternoon. Yes that’s right, sitting on the beach! Two hours later I was up to my knees in snowdrifts in the Lomonds. Fife is so wonderfully diverse
  18. Amazing photos on the BBC of the wildfires in the northwest: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-21966628 Just like last summer, they've been the dry and sunny place in all this weirdness.
  19. I just took a long exposure shot south to see what was out there...... Aha! I seeeee you!! C'mon, edge north! Oh and thanks for the wind farm explantions
  20. I've seen this mentioned a couple of times this past week. Looking just now I can see it clearly and was hoping someone could explain what's going on there and why it shows up on the radar like that? Thanks in advance
  21. I'm probably in a minority as Spring wears on but I can't deny I'd enjoy a cold Spring for a change. The prospect of there being long Spring hillwalking days with strong sunshine and snow on the hills is very enticing indeed Course, some folk won't be best pleased and we all know what strain any prolonged cold will put on agriculture, energy, food, the list goes on.
