  1. Excellent - made me laugh out loud - as well as my mum who's being nosy and wondering what I'm doing on the PC ha ha!
  2. Everyone talking about 'panic buying' at the shops now! My brother has been to Asda in Waterlooville for some beer and they've run out of bread! Asda told him that one woman had bought 30 loaves of bread (must love sandwiches!) The shops should put a limit per customer really if they can to stop the silliness a bit! Glad I pre warned my bro and his wife (they've just had a baby) on Tuesday morning so they've got enough of everything - except for beer!!
  3. I try to make some sense of the model discussion threads but most of it goes over my head!! I think the general consenus at the moment is that snow on Sunday/Monday will be light/moderate but persistent giving good coverings in places (although it seems to change from Southern areas only to central/south east etc). Personally I absolutely loved the intensity and huge flakes we had on Tuesday (despite being stuck in it for 5 hours on the A3 lol!!) but I'm not sure the weekend will produce that again from what I've read. The winds are picking up from tomorrow which may push the easterly snow flurries further our way hence the forecast. Everything can change so quickly which adds to the fun!
  4. A few people on other threads (south west and south east) saying there are signs that Sunday's event might not come off after all so really is a case of wait and see!!
  5. Tough one to call isn't it especially as things change so quickly! Just a few hours before the snow started on Tuesday it was the south west, Dorset etc that was forecast to have the heaviest falls but the system came further east and hit us lot instead! Staying with my mum in Horndean at the moment and seemed strange to see snow ploughs coming down the road!
  6. Phoned the job centre re an appointment in Portsmouth tomorrow (currently stuck in Horndean) - he said "everyone should try to come in and wait and see what the weather is like tomorrow, the snow may have thawed and melted by then - after all no one knows what the weather will be like in the morning!!!" - absolutely priceless!!!
  7. Finally stopped here in Horndean/Waterlooville as been going since 8.30 am - looking forward to the sunshine tomorrow that will make everything look nice and bright!
  8. Still heavy snow in Horndean/Waterlooville but very small dusty bits instead of 'proper' flakes!
  9. Hi all, Still snowing in Horndean/Waterlooville, quite fast but dusty small flakes. Keeps looking like it will stop, then starts again! Keep seeing bits of hazy blue sky though. Just managed to get my car off the road and onto the drive thank goodness as a few people are driving and skidding about a bit! Never thought I'd need a shovel.........
  10. Hi everyone! Just got back from a long walk - still snowing in Horndean area albeit a lot lighter than yesterday evening - seems to come in peaks and troughs. People down the road are building an igloo - will try and get a pic of that later! Sounds like Surrey is bad! We've got about 9 inches now - still can't believe the amount of people trying to drive and skidding all over the place! Glad everyone is enjoying especially Portsmouth/IOW area where snow is notoriously difficult to come by!!
  11. Morning all! Still snowing heavily in Waterlooville/Horndean - started about 8.30 am again. Just had a good cooked breakfast now going out to play in it! Hope you're all having fun and staying safe.
  12. Posted Yesterday, 16:51 Hi all, Turning a little sleety in Portsmouth but keeps changing back to rain! My mum just called in Waterlooville, apparently there are big snowflakes coming down and her drive is nearly covered! Amazing, I can drive there in 10 minutes!! Now there's an idea lol...... UPDATE - Evening all (for those still up!) I decided to take the '10 minute drive' to Waterlooville/Horndean which ended up taking me 4.5 hours! I was amazed at how quickly the weather changed from Portsmouth which was just turning sleety when I left to almost blizzard conditions further up the A3!! Luckily I called my parents who decided to brave the weather and walked down the hard shoulder with flasks of tea and biscuits for everyone! Also brought a big sheet for modesty for us ladies who needed the toilet lol! People were abandoning their cars all over the place and in the end a group of about 20 blokes were salting the slip road (with supplies from the nearby Morrisons supermarket I think) and helping to push cars up the road to get the traffic moving. I have to say that I got a bit scared at one point because the snow was just relentless, huge flakes like I'd never seen before down here (as some have already reported). My dad, bless him, stayed until nearly 11pm with the others to get each and every car up the slip road for those who hadn't given up! We just measured the depth in the garden - 8 inches!! Couldn't believe it - still snowing lightly now but getting less and less. Goodness knows what it would be like if we get some more tomorrow but I'm over the moon with what I've seen tonight even if it was a bit of a scary adventure at times! Also dead chuffed with everyone helping one another and pulling together. Sorry about the long post - just wanted to share my experience! Will try and upload some pics tomorrow. Hope all that had snow enjoyed it and take care. Night night!
  13. Hi all, Turning a little sleety in Portsmouth but keeps changing back to rain! My mum just called in Waterlooville, apparently there are big snowflakes coming down and her drive is nearly covered! Amazing, I can drive there in 10 minutes!! Now there's an idea lol......
  14. Evening everyone, The rain in Portsmouth is turning a bit sleety but not sure how long that will last, nice to see anything remotely white in Portsmouth, even the frost!
  15. Absolutely chucking it down in Portsmouth (with rain I hasten to add!). Also raining in Hayling Island but mum's going to give me a weather report from Horndean when she gets home but I doubt it's much different. The threat has moved to Guildford/Surrey region now - their weather forecast looks quite scary actually (1ft of snow etc) Sunnysouthcoast - don't worry - we knew there was a strong possibility of things changing right to the last minute so doesn't mean they can't change again!
  16. Hi all, just stopped raining in Portsmouth, still fairly cold but brightening skies.
  17. Hi all - just cut and paste this from South west thread - this guy is excellent and really knows his stuff. Amazing how things can change so quickly - wouldn't be surprised if our warnings were downgraded a bit. "Quick update from work - new NAE just arrived now wants to focus worst snowfall (20cm +) out of westcountry by around 50NM northeast, into Berks, Surrey and Bucks, including threatening Heathrow. Some degree of wrap around back for parts of Wilts / Glos / Bristol / Bath areas around midnight onwards to 06Z in new run but I can't see the original totals being attained for our districts, frankly. I believe UKMO now considering amendments to the current flash warning to cater for new run. About to hold conference call with UKMO so will hear the composite viewpoint soon. 18. Pompey FC - I read that on the south west forum - I think it's moving north and east. What will be will be I guess! Still raining in Portsmouth but brightening up a bit.
  19. Sunnysouthcoast - thanks for that - my parents live in Horndean but mum's not home from work yet. She loves snow just as much as I do so if there's as much of a flake she'll be on the phone lol! As early as yesterday I saw rain for most coastal areas at first so I'll hold out hope for the timebeing. If it does snow I would prefer it to be during daylight hours as I'd miss it if I was sleeping! It snowed heavily in Stafford over the new year (luckily I was there!) and that wasn't forecast until about an hour beforehand! You just never know...
  20. Hi, Those photos look awesome storm animal! Just browsing other threads, it's raining in Portsmouth so thought I'd check out the snowy regions! Enjoy and take care
  21. Hi all, Raining heavily in Portsmouth; glad I didn't get extra bread and milk after all!
  22. Hi all, The clouds are looming from the west and looking very black (like they do when the sun shines on clouds sometimes). I was getting optimistic but saw that it's raining on the island so I've got my brolly handy as I need to nip to the Co Op! PompeyFC - know how you feel! Never mind, on a more serious note my other half works for Meals on Wheels service so he's relieved that his drivers can deliver hot meals to his elderly clients safely. We're in Copnor and just seen someone walk past with their brolly up but it's not raining yet lol.
  23. Sizzling Heat - good to hear that it's turning to snow! Hope it continues
