  1. I'm back (thanks to my Ma for holding the fort while I've been celebrating a narrow Pompey win! ) While I was watching the game she went outside about 6 times to check the lampost and the drive to see if anything was settling so I think she might be getting hooked like me ha ha Still lots of little stupid snowy bits floating about dementedly in the wind!!
  2. SLB will be here in a min (Ma here).....Pompey just won the game! It is actually snowing here in Horndean now. Light and laying!
  3. Hee Hee.....SLB's Ma here (SLB1).....she's watching the footie, we now have "stupid" snow here.....very fine and wet, but snow!
  4. LOL Flyer - well back to the footie for me as playing extra time now - can't wait to see how much rain we get lol
  5. Raining here in Horndean! Had to strain out the window to see because the lampost outside has gone out lol!!!
  6. Oooh - I'm so chuffed for those of you seeing the white stuff!! Just off to watch football on telly now - will check lampost at half time!!
  7. Evening all, On the south west thread, one of the more experienced posters said that there was quite an intense band retaining strength heading for Central Southern areas/Hampshire etc about midnight - not sure what will come out of the sky though! Apparently the Quay radio (Portsmouth local radio) are saying that heavy snows on its way but I don't know where they get their info from lol!
  8. We've just been out in Horndean and the wind's died down considerably. Our lights/streetlights keep going off and on! This weather front has only really affected a few people snowwise I think - I'm still grateful for what we had last week and as has already been alluded to, if we hadn't had that I'd be pulling my hair out. But.... it's still only the middle of Jan.
  9. Seems far too warm to me even without the benefit of a thermometer; I could really tell the difference today compared with yesterday even though it's cold in the wind! I noticed that Devon and Cornwall were taken off the 80% warning completely this morning, imagine how they feel if they were really hoping for some of the white stuff! Just been to Hayling and it's weird seeing snow on the beach although that's thawing quite rapidly as well. Oh to live a bit further north (I'd miss the sea in the summer though lol!).... Badboy - you were right, I remember you saying it would prob be a non event for us - you should join the BBC weather team for our area!!
  10. Thanks Flyer - why do you think the BBC appear to have 'downgraded' the south west event tonight then? Just interested because those watching the teatime weather will be expecting something else bless em especially if they don't see anymore forecasts!! Flyer - just in case you reply fairly soon - I'm off to bedfordshire now so please don't think I'm ignoring you if you don't get a response! Night all
  11. Didn't catch latest BBC forecasts tonight but south west thread says they've given rain for Dorset/coast now so will be same here I imagine. I don't want to think about how that's going to react with all the snow we've got lying around - ick!! Sorry Stormboy - forgot to say thanks for the reply
  12. Thanks Flyer - she is saying the same thing as South Today lol! I must stop reading the south west thread I think!
  13. Hi Stormboy, I'm actually in Horndean (6 miles north of Portsmouth) at the moment where we still have lots of lying snow from Tuesday night. Portsmouth still have it in gardens etc but the roads/pavements are fairly clear if not very icy apparently! I think Pompey had about 4 to 5" in total which is amazing for down there! We had slightly more I think. Been reading the model discussion thread and people are talking about the shortwave again. Also one poster just showed some charts saying there would be chaos at rush hour over the south on Wednesday. Sorry to be a pain but are you able to explain that in a little more detail please so I can keep my other half 'in the picture' so to speak re arrangements for work. Any help gratefully received but don't worry if not. Thanks
  14. Thanks Flyer, I've heard bits and bobs about a possible 'shortwave' but it went over my head unfortunately! I'm still not convinced about anything reaching us (mainly due to what I've read on south west thread and trying to make sense of the charts I see on there etc) but time will tell. My partner manages a couple of Meals on Wheels central southern regions so he started to panic after watching South Today; I've told him to chill out a little!
  15. Thanks Kent - I suppose I just thought that because he was a forecaster he would probably have more detailed charts etc to go on. Yep the BBC forecast was a good one and so very different to the picture painted in Ian F's blog! You're right in that the later it comes hopefully the colder it will be. I've seen the satellite pictures of the low coming in and it looks like a monster whatever it ends up doing here!! Still fingers crossed (especially for our Dorset chums!)
  16. Just been reading south west thread and there was a link to one of the weather presenters blogs which I clicked on and he's good. Seems like it won't be reaching this far west after all (but on the plus side I'd rather see nothing than heavy rain!) http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/weather/ianfergusson/
  17. IOWPompeylee - I think it's meant to come in the afternoon/evening and overnight before fizzling out Wednesday am. It's moving north east but at how fast a rate I'm not sure. I would be delighted if Dorset got snow, I keep reading posts from Dorestians in the southwest thread who haven't seen much so I've got my fingers crossed for them. Amounts are uncertain, I think southtoday mentioned 20 cm to cover themselves; mind you I wasn't expecting 18cm here last week so you never know! Hi Kent! See if you can watch the local BBC website weather forecast that was on southtoday at 6.30 (not sure when they upload it onto the website though). Dorset seemed very much in the firing line and you have an 'orange' warning on the met office. If there are to be any glitches I think it would be because we're on the coast so it could be sleet/rain or the front moves north and east quicker than expected. North Devon/Wales etc seem to have the most coming (e.g. 20cm) and are in the most 'reliable' zone for snowfall if you know what I mean. Really hope it snows and snows in Dorset for you though
  18. Busying up in here now lol! Our little thread is one of the smallest, never mind come the summer when we're enjoying watching thunderstorms over the sea we'll be busier! I saw snow forecast for us on south today although she kept going on about Dorset even though we had some 'heavier' graphics over Hampshire too!
  19. I agree with you there Dorsetbred - the Met Office have just extended their warnings east and north for Wednesday. I do hope the east don't get the best bits because they've had enough already lol! I've already dug my brolly out the cupboard!
  20. Blimey - I laughed too!! Hope the frozen rain doesn't happen down here tomorrow - let the south west have its snow and I'll take nil precipitation please weather - thank you!
  21. I'm with you on that one badboy. Met office have just updated their warnings. We are still yellow though although some of the southwest look like they'll get a lot (80% for 5cm to 20cm particularly high ground upgrade).
  22. I know what you mean - even our local newspaper is saying there won't be anymore snow for our area (not sure I'd actually want to print that!) One things for sure - somewhere will get snow and I think that will be Gloucester/Wales/north M4 etc.
  23. Still quiet here in Horndean, slight thaw going on. Latest precipitation charts are on the south west thread which show plenty of rain for us (south coast) Tuesday and Wednesday. What a messy mix that's going to be with the lying snow!
  24. Hiya, Basil - you're further north than us aren't you so I think you may be right. Being on the coast I think we'll have rain, BBC shows heavy rain for Wednesday for us.
  25. Just thinking the same thing. All stopped now anyway so nothing else to see. G'night.
