  1. Yep - it does indeed seem to have been a pretty narrow area that has seen the heaviest almost constant snowfall over the last 2 days Snow levels here now compare to those in March 2005 ( then had 16 consecutive days of snowfall - and was very localised ) but as that was so late in winter it mostly went pretty soon after ( though I remember going out for a cycle ride in shorts & tshirt 2 weeks after in early april and there still being the remnants of drifts ) Still snowing here albeit more sporadic and lighter than earlier today. Temps did go up to 1c but have fallen back a little now to 0.6c
  2. finally seems to be easing off here a bit now - been out for a re-measure and we now have 29cm ( measured in as sheltered spot as possible ). We've had around 7-8cm's today alone since mid morning. Hence, we should easily get up to and over a foot once the main band hits... temps up a little again - back to 0.4c
  3. not suprised to hear roads between lenham & ashford are starting to be closed .... esp the A20 as per my previous posts. temp continues to drop -0.1c now. Anyone know why they have dropped in the last hour or so - more of an easterly element to the wind now perhaps so more off the continent rather than north sea ?
  4. apologies, it usually shows on the signature anyway - location is nr Lenham ( between ashford & maidstone )
  5. Estimated 25cm depth earlier - now been out and its around 23-24cm so a pretty good guess. Some pretty decent big drifts around too. We have had pretty constant heavy snow here for the last 2 hours - often almost whiteout conditions Really blowing about - goodness knows what the A20 must be like just up the road from here as its so open and blows across the fields from off the north downs temp now 0.4c having been up to 0.9c earlier today. Currently v fine snow but plenty of it
  6. someone showed a radar image of the last 12 hours snow fall earlier, and i can confirm that we indeed had a further 8-10cm overnight here between lenham & charing ( mid - east kent ) Total depth up to at least 25cm though difficult to get accurate measure as its blowing around so much now. Heavy snow started again now. Temp up to 0.8c tho
  7. that shower is still going strong here - had a good half hr so far of v heavy snow adding another cm or 2 to our ever growing total
  8. Heavy snow at the mo ( started here about 15 mins ago ) and blowing around - pretty nasty out there right now temp 0.1c
  9. Indeed... had pretty much shower after shower this morning - level depth now between 5-6 inches here. Sun briefly out at mo & temp had risen to the dizzy heights of minus 0.8c Drove along A20 this morning and could see its started drifting in places, esp near here ( between Lenham & Charing on North Downs ) - a notorious spot for drifting if that wind picks up as forecast. Potential issue I see is if the channel tunnel stops running again and / or Operation Stack is implemented over the next few days especially with more snow forecast. All traffic is then diverted onto A20 which then always gets snarled up or v slow moving - hopefully I'm not tempting fate here
  10. Light snow here in mid-kent just starting up..... V dark clouds late afternoon but v little falling from sky - soon as it got dark, the snow ( albeit light ) started still hopeful of some heavier bursts this evening to add to our 13cm
  11. Completely agree... Sure I'm happy at the mo because I have around 10cm so far, but around half of that has come from snow falling either when it wasn't forecast ( even up to a few hrs before it happened ) or much earlier than expected ( eg. this morning ) Dont give up hope - this afternoon could well yet get interesting even for some of those where the 'wrist slashing' has already started. Right, off to make a snowman
  12. Very heavy snow for last 20 mins or so here in mid-kent. Nice top up to our 10cm following yesterday evening heavy fall
  13. Heaviest snow of today setting in here now. Temps continue to slowly fall away ( 0.6c now ) and wind has picked up slightly too.
  14. yes indeed it is - heavy snow now between lenham & charing
  15. temps have dropped by half a degree in the last hour - down to 0.8c now the light / mod snow we have had from 8am this morning continues - some small addition to the 5cm we already had. Here's hoping for a nice heavier fall later this pm / eve
  16. nr Lenham, Kent - still light / mod snow with occ heavier bursts as has been all morning constant 1.3c for last couple of hrs
  17. Browsed these forums for ages and thought it time to contribute......... Not seen many updates from those in Kent this morning - here, nr Lenham ( between Ashford & Maidstone ) we had some fairly heavy snow for an hour or so late yesterday evening which added to the snow we had from previous occasional falls. Estimate around 5 cm's lying at the mo. Its has been snowing lightly with the occasional heavier burst for most of this morning - which has been a little suprising given the bbc forecasts for here this morning. Hoping for some further addition later and then perhaps more likely over the weekend once we hopefully start getting some convective stuff - always great in this part of Kent with an E or NE feed. Current temp around 1.3c and its been aboove freezing here since late yesterday - and yet no sign of any melt. edit - snow heavier again now
