  1. There doesn't seem to be much beyond these showers at the moment on Rain Today but in so many of these circumstances I've put the computer down for an hour or two only to find further pepping up - so who knows - more might build up to the East yet! Temp is also down to 0.4C here and looks to be falling a bit further. Would love to have a dew point "meter" if such a thing exists - right - off to Google for one!
  2. Pretty much due East. Through Central and then into West Kent. Currently the band = Faversham south to about Ashford?
  3. Wel despit learning something about dew points, 850's, 528 dam, continental air mass modification and warm sectors (and many thanks to all for your answers) I have a new theory about snow - Spend 2+ back-breaking hours cleaning the drive of 6-7 inches of snow and there will surely be snow. And there has been - nearly another 1 cm of fluffy snow with more on the way by the looks of Rain Today!
  4. Thank you Mikel Nimbus for this. So overall 850 uppers of around -8C or less, plus 528 dam or less, plus dew point <0C, plus surface air temp of as close to 0C as possible (up to 2C?) is overall a higher probability for snow.
  5. Rain Today radar showing first shower band now into extreme NE Kent as Rain / Snow (grey colour) - will this track across entirely as sleet or snow when further inland - that is the question?
  6. Can someone help me with dew points. Looked it up on Wikipedia and I understand the bit about being the temperature required, at constant barometric pressure, for water to condense out. However, how does it all relate to snow and probabilities of snow? Is it as simple as this - dew points of < 0C are required to ensure that water condenses out in the frozen state (i.e. frost or snow)? Or am I barking up the wrong tree (or dripping from the wrong icicle!!)
  7. The Rain Today radar site shows some quite pepped up shower activity heading east towards NE Kent coast - appeared to grow out of nothing. Probably won't beat melt rate (temps still above freezing here) but one to watch!
  8. It's been brilliant - we ended up with just over 6 inches level snow. Snizzle here now (very sleety looking snow) and a slow thaw underway. I don't know who feels the same but once it all looks a bit dull and slushly in some ways (don't shoot me down) it's good to see it go. To be unpopular I really do need a milder interlude for a short time - so much work to catch up on and I haven't earnt over the last few days. Maybe good for later in month though
  9. What makes you say that tornadica? The radar looks quite good over you?
  10. And hence the fact that sometimes the BBC graphics show rain but the more experienced forecasters ignore it I guess!
  11. 1.4C here at the moment but definitely not sleety (yet) - light to moderate snow but the flakes are floating well in the wind (how scientific can you get!!)
  12. Yes 1.3C here. Can only rise so far before the forthcoming snow isn't snow at all! Is this unexpected / temporary. If this is milder uppers will they lower again?
  13. Amazing what a difference being away from coast and up a little bit (200ft absl) can make. Still "only" 1.3C here in Chartham just SW of Canterbury!
  14. Sleet and snow across the east of the region at first will become more widespread and lead to some fresh accumulations of snow developing in many areas overnight. There will also be a brisk, locally strong, very cold northeasterly wind. Minimum temperature -3 °C. Met office hinting at possibility of sleet as well as snow which would support some slightly warmer air. How far inland you would have to be to guarantee snow and not sleet I don't know
  15. But a few showers peeping up again out towards NE over the sea by looks of things <_<
  16. The sign of a true enthusiast - setting the alarm!
  17. Same here. In Chartham several miles due NE of you. It's astonishing and looking at radar no end in site just yet
  18. Another band coming in now and seeming to follow a similar course. Landfall at Herne Bay (ish) and then Southwestwards, seems to be a pattern.
  19. Been lurking on here for ages - 1st post - seems to have been very localised band of snow during the early hours. Looking at met office radar loop since about 4.30 a.m the snow hit the coast at Herne Bay roughly and then proceeded SW, past me here at Chartham and in a band perhaps no more than 10 miles wide or even less. Certainly we also had a lot and now have approx 5 inches total.
