  1. What a complete and utter shambles. I am not too annoyed I didn't see anymore snow last night, but what annoyed me is the way that BBC, MetO and Sky were still harking about 15cm more to come in the SE and 2-5cm in London all the way through the night when it was very clear it wasn't going to happen! I can't believe how inaccurate they have been in the last 24 hours. The early warning for the SE was due until 23:59 today but I see the MetO have finally removed this a lot earlier.

So, I end this cold spell with 23cm of snow - not bad! But it appears to be thawing quicker today as temps and dewpoint are now above freezing!

  2. Nice 5 -6" of fluffy powdery snow that was here and lying (as also stated by Beeb and Sky forcasters) is now in transition, due to temps turned VERY wet and one small snowball is enough to remove 4" of snow down to grass level in one revolution!

Love Snow - Hate Slush! :wallbash:

In my opinion which is not fact, so not open to a bashing (:cc_confused:), I can see the rest of tonight panning out as thus. Snow for Kent, over, slight thaw of lying snow making it slushy to all except those that have greater depths thus giving insulation to lower levels.

Snow pushing over from Netherlands reaching Wash and pushing Midlands and Pennines way.

Event over, no snow for Kt,Su,Sx, Lon & Ex. Gradual thaw, temps pushing to 2'c then 3'c next day, 4'c and staying 3 - 4'c most of week with very little frost.

I hope I'm wrong for us snow lovers here in the SE, but thats how I see it.

This extreme episode is over, but temps still under normal but not front page stuff anymore.

(You watch, I'll have 4" of new snow on the drive by 9am now!)

I feel that is the way it is going. Above freezing maxima for the next few days seems likely, with a slow and painful thaw of lying snow. Clear skies overnight mean ice could be more of a major hazard this week than last week because the melting snow will turn to slush and freeze.

Edit: that line over the channel does seem to be heading back NWwards now - how odd!

  3. 18Z NAE is suggesting an increase in precipitation in the same area as today between midnight and 6am tomorrow. We shall see!

looking at the rest of that run the only noticeable precip is for that small strip of Kent/Sussex, and then the Midlands northwards. I hate to say this, but I don't think anything's going to happen now :whistling:

  4. Yes Pretty Much

Just read PJB's Update and it is grim reading for most of us in the South, he is saying the Heavier Precip will cross much further North during tomorrow, not much at all for the South and this is backed by both the GFS & ECMWF :)

OK the past few GFS runs have been showing this.

Snow continuing in Kent/East Sussex in particular all night and affecting coastal Essex, Suffolk and later Norfolk.

Outbreaks of light snow develop over the SW and south Wales tomorrow morning, and across the Midlands and the rest of Wales during the afternoon, heavy on the hills by evening. This leaves a rather large hole over most the Home Counties, including London, and parts of central southern England away from the south coast. This is how I feel things are going, but I hope I am wrong for you guys :)

Admittedly the snow looks lighter on the radar now compared to earlier.

I did post that about an hour ago. That is what worries me. The Midlands northwards and westwards look best :(
