  1. I am in shame then - heating came on the other week! Well the thermostat got turned up (by me) and then it kicked in, only set at 15c, someone in the house had turned it down to 8! Fed up with washing draped everywhere so got the aga turned back on as well, then the kitchen overheated and we had to open the windows! Looking forward to next week, logs are in, chimney swept, sledges on order....
  2. Thankfully, the invention of the 'spray' suncream applicator has made it easier for everyone. I can chase the children squirting it all over them. The rubbing in of some thick gloopy stuff along with sand was unpleasant for both me and them! I might toast myself on the beach but not them. Really important for them their skin is different, but I never had suncream put on when I was a child. Does anyone know when suncream was invented? P.S. I used to apply 50 factor when in Australia and still got a tan!
  3. Bring on the tanning season! Been burnt in April in years gone by. Now my skin must be too tough as it takes longer! Having to do swimathon next week so resorting to bottle stuff just so I don't look too bad in the picture. Vanity or what!!
  4. March 1st. March can't be classed as a winter month or it will push December into an Autumn month if we keep 3 months to each season. (mind you who set up the 3 months to each season?) March is a month of new growth, longer daylight hours and the beginning of planting ready for harvest (yes, Farmer here!) If you see planting in fields around at the moment it may be 'Spring Barley' or 'Spring Wheat'. Saying that, we are not planting our spuds at the moment - too cold!!
  5. Lunch break! Frost this morning, -1 or so the car told me. Some of you may have read TEITS theory of seagulls indicating an approaching cold spell but has anyone ever heard about 'full moons'? A friend of a friend heard from a meteorologist that the number of full moons in a year indicate a good or bad summer? Last year we had 13, this year we are due for 12, good summer? I hope this is true - I do NOT want to camp anymore in the rain! Too much drinking and guy ropes are not a pretty match.......
  6. Hope so! Then my thoughts will turn to Easter Holidays, in 2008 we were planting spuds in snow in March and sitting on Constantine Beach (Cornwall) in April getting a tan! Love our weather!
  7. Slight breeze and rain here. Boys meant to be playing rugby, but it was cancelled yesterday possibly due to approaching storm, looks like they could've played after all. Netweather 10 day glance thingy has taken away all my snow and low temperatures for next week what's going on? Is there not going to be the last grasp of straws scenario with the white stuff?
  8. OMG - it's raining! again! Can there be anymore water to fall? It's like a cold, you think you got rid of everything and then you sneeze and WHOOSH out comes another bucket full. update on previous afternoon school run - rain.
  9. woke up - drizzle school run - rain morning at work - hard rain lunch - fleeting orange globe producing radiant light that cast shadows now - grey
  10. Daisy With 'snow zoo' not really working out AND with all the rain this week, did think we could start up some girl mud wrestling competitions here in Somerset. Free entry, cider, couple of shrimps on the barbie? Second thoughts - everyone so depressed about lack of snow on this site that they wouldn't bother to come and watch !!! (the above is totally and completely unweather related, to which I deeply apologise to the mods, but there are only so many ways to say it rained all day!! Which it did in West Somerset!)
  11. My request for a tune is 'gimme, gimme, gimme some snow after midnight'!!
  12. Bit late to tell you, but it was snowing this morning here! Nothing stayed around but fun driving to work in the falling snow. Enough on the hills to go sledging again. Yipee
  13. Lived both north and south - I say 'settle' Snow events so infrequent don't have time to say anything as pulling on waterproofs and out there playing!! Stopped snowing here in West Somerset. Rain/sleet mix coming on down instead.
  14. I stress orography not as important a factor in today's set-up for snow compared to PPN intensity / evaporational cooling. We've seen this already at work in the heavier convective embedded cells.
  15. Snowing here since about 8am this morning. Wet snow which took a while to give a white covering. Easing off now with small flakes coming down. Friend on Brendon Hills has had snow all night and is snowed in up there! Apparently Minehead has nothing, just rain. Hope there is more - sorry for anyone having trouble for work - but for the children on half term it's great fun!!
  16. Ah, the good old days! Many a good time had by Diamond White too.... Taking my memories to bed. Good night all. Catch up after the weekend when the snow starts to fall (note the rather weak connection to weather here)
  17. on and on. Love it when I'm far enough down to get Pirate FM, then I know i'm really near and the holiday can begin! This emoticon symbolises me drinking Hooch in Newquay, do you remember Hooch?
  18. copied this from SE forum - check out the last line! Could it come true? Becoming increasingly confident now that after Monday the snowiest spell of the winter is about to hit the UK with widespread lowland snow. The benign cold spell will start to withdraw on Sunday as the high retrogresses allowing a much colder airmass originating from sub 492 DAM air near the pole to flood south with sub 522DAM thickness and falling pressure. Three things will aid snow development: 1. South moving air increasing absolute vorticity forcing ascent and falling pressure. 2. Decreasing stability forcing convection 3. Northerly jet streak propagating south from Iceland forcing mass ascent of air on its cold side (over UK). I have kept quiet till now wanting to see how this was likely to pan out but now it is becoming clearer when the serious snow will arrive - from Monday onwards for about a week. Get those snow shovels ready, nobody will be immune, even lowland coastal SW areas
  19. As weather is going to be dry (boo hoo), heading down to Cashy's neck of the woods tomorrow for a couple of days. So Cashy - look out for harassed mother with three children walking SW coast path! Fingers crossed for Tuesday then? Wil be back by then so no chance of being stranded on A30 over Bodmin anyway! Thank goodness it's half term - no alarms!!
  20. I suppose I am looking for one last hurrah from this excellent winter. Spot on. Just something to make you smile before we move into Spring.
  21. Husband's tennis tonight and I do not envy him out there - cold, windy and odd wet/ice/sleet showers coming down. We ladies haven't played since October due to rain/ice/snow - back to it after half term though. Wind so bad i'm bundled up just to have a smoke outside! Welsh weather (Freeview won't pick up Points West) said that next week looked like being the snowy week, any chance that's for us too?
  22. It was cold and icy where I was this morning! Where was I? Bristol ice rink!! Cold on the Quantocks this afternoon though, grey too. Dancing Daisy - Thought Aphra Behn was naughtier?!
  23. finger biting stuff going on in the model chit chat. Desperate Housewives and a bar of wholenut are calling me!
