this is unbearable. the charts are constantly changing from east to west. just pray they don't go any further east. as much as i love keeping a check on the charts, it can cause loads of anxiety when the snow event is borderline. i guess it doesn't help that this could be one of our last chances of getting some decent snow for this winter too. lets hope the models shift a little to the west and everyone gets to benefit from the white stuff. I think we all deserve it this winter as it's been so lousy up to now. good luck folks!

battleground stations everyone. lets repel this mild front once and for all.
-
coldest morning so far, -6c in northampton. feels bitterly cold. surprising though as there was more cloud this morning which i would have thought would have raised the temps a bit, but obviously not. looking forward to the weekends snow event. lets just hope it doesn't turn to sleety rain though.
-
northamptonshire looks like its in the firing line, but i hope it doesn't turn to icy rain as some of the forecasts are suggested. I can't bear the wait now. its about time we had a decent snowfall in these parts.
-
the charts seem to be zig zagging from east to west each time. the rate this is going it'll end up either in china or america. it just needs to stabilise now, preferably over the midlands (specifically the east midlands)lol
-
watched the michael fish video too and wasn't that impressed. then again his earlier video made no mentin of any snow whatsoever or the real cold we currently have when he did his previous video so I think i will take what he says with a very large pinch of salt. sorry michael.
-
okay fair point, no one can tell at this time. guess we will just have to wait and get what we get come saturday/sunday.
-
so is northampton looking good for saturday/sunday at the moment? looking at the charts it seems to be but the tv forecasts are being very hesitant in saying exactly
-
I think that even if the models are pushing things slightly back west, the central areas will still certainly see some major snowfall and both further east and west lesser amounts, but still 'SNOW'. Best all round really. Hope we all get to see some decent amounts come sunday morning. This could be the last chance of an event like this for this winter. Keep praying everyone.

so am i right in assuming Northampton area could well be in a good position for a good pasting then? Please god, let it happen.... just this once.
-
okay cheers. I will remain cautiously optimistic then and hope the earlier charts are bettered or at least constant with this mornings runs. Please no backtrack.
-
After all the excitement this morning and now the warnings from the met office, I have a horrible gut feeling that this 'event' is going to amount to very little. I sincerely hope I am wrong and many of us get a good pasting, but my instinct is that the weather is so unstable at the moment, anything could happen, but knowing good ol' britain, we will probably end up getting lots of cold rain.
Also it's gone very quiet on the models thread. Do they know someone we don't?
-
Yup, keeping fingers crossed for mega dumping of snow in Northampton NN2. It's about time.
-
met office finally put the warnings out for the weekend..woohoo!!
-
c'mon guys, at least you usually get several rounds of snow each winter whereas further south we are lucky to get one or two. The north has more than its fair share of the white stuff in an average winter. Don't begrudge us midlanders/southerners some of the white stuff.
-
okay, thanks. I am keeping everything crossed that Northamptonshire is one of the places on the target list for heavy snow. Together with the rest of the country.lol. We have been waiting all winter for a snow event like this to happen. Let's hope it doesn't end up being a false alarm right at the last moment.

Can anyone tell me why neither the Met Office nor the BBC has mentioned any risk of significant snow yet since it is only 2 days away now?
-
I know there is nothing set in stone as yet, but does anyone think Northampton is in the firing line for decent snow at the weekend. I never know where Northampton lies geographically, sometimes it's the east midlands, or the south east or eastern england. It's a kind of nowhere land.lol
-
I know it's still early days, but does anyone think Northamptonshire stands a chance of some decent snowfall this weekend?
-
To be honest I am completely drained after this past week. Will it, won't it? I can't take it anymore! I will be happy if we at least get a couple of hours of heavy snow before it turns to rain over in the east midlands. Don't get me wrong, I would love it to stay as snow the whole way through, but reading the other messages, it doesn't look like it is going to happen. If we only end up getting rain and not even a transitional snow event, then I will certainly give up being interested in the weather from then on. It's far too depressing to get all hyped up over nothing in the end.
-
If the west gets snow in an easterly and the east gets sod all, there is no hope whatsover. What is going on with the weather these days?
-
I just don't know where I get the weather fixation from. No one else in my family is remotely interested in it. It's also a real pain that I am obsessed with cold and snow and unlucky enough to live in a country which has neither to speak of as such. Then again I could be even unluckier and live in Africa or the Middle East.lol
-
It's funny but since they got rid of Thomasz Shafernaker and Rob McElwee we don't seem to have had much, if any snow. They wer always so enthusiastic about it. The ones we have now are like robots.
-
Well I've had enough of the british winter weather (or non winter). Next year I am definately going to the alps for my holidays and get some real snow and cold for a change.

sorry to be so dim but could someone tell me why, just over the other side of the channel the temps are -12c compared to -1c in se england. surely 30 miles of channel can't make that much difference, can it? northern france still comes under the atlantic influence the same as us surely?
