  1. Fantastic,. can't wait. Haven't really had time to have a look this morning so that's a nice surprise. Thought we were going to miss out and just get a few flakes. Fingers crossed ❄❄❄
  2. Thank you BB62-63, fantastic explination, I understood every word, which is no mean feat on my part ???
  3. Yep I've been over there too, now I'm totally confused and a bit depressed, so I think I will stick to the short range thread and this one. The views aren't so conflicting, but perhaps that's because we like the IMBY stuff now there is some hope that it could actually be IMBY this time.
  4. Yes totally agree and the fact that the place names are so big you can't see what's underneath. Plymouth seems to obliterate half of Devon ??
  5. Yep Knocked we've got frost on the cars this morning, sun, a bit of cloud and a good breeze. A perfect start to a lazy Sunday.
  6. Well having just stepped outside and felt the windchill, I can't say as I'm too sorry that my daughter's rugby match has been cancelled this morning. Luckily the other team wimped out. ?❄?❄ Have to say all this will it, won't it, malarkey for the end of the week is starting to drive me crazy but if we don't get 5 foot snow drifts before winter is out, I would still mark it up as better than the last few years in my neck of the woods. Sun, frost and wind. What's not to like?
  7. I just wanted to say best of luck with your scan today Rom, hope all goes well for you and that you get lots of snow to help take yoit mind off things.
  8. Well I've done my bit and bought the anti-freeze. My hubby is still dithering as to whether we need it
  9. Well I'm sat on the plane with my seat belt buckled whilst my husband hasn't even bought his ticket yet. He's having none of it. So I'm preparing for this epic event with only the support of you crazy like minded people. I'm off to the shops tomorrow before the locusts land for the usual bread, milk, cat food, batteries etc and I've tried talking anti-freeze for the car with dear hubby but I got laughed out of the room. Sooooo, I'm ashamed to say I know next to nothing about cars. I have bought wind screen wash and de-icer but that's it and I don't think that's gonna help in 4ft of snow . I did buy some engine anti-freeze the other day, we have 2 cars, do we need it, do you put it in neat, do you have to drain the engine or can you just top it up? I'm sure him indoors will wake up and smell the snow soon and get his act in gear but before that I want to know if I should buy some more before the shelves are bare. I've absolutely no idea and the instructions are non existent. Starting to get excited now
  10. Haa haa I was there last night.? I hope they can make it work. Lovely pub. Hope they get the fire sorted by next week. It went out while we were there.
  11. We get the occasional power cut and we use a match to light our gas hob but I think you need to be very careful. Having said that, our electric fan oven caught fire a couple of weeks ago, big flames coming from the back
  12. I have a North Face similar to your burgundy one which is waterproof and great for wet snow/cold etc and I also have a long puffa like yours which is great for warmth but isn't waterproof what so ever and I'm not sure it's a good idea to water proof them if they're made of down. I have a couple of fleece snoods and balaclavas from my skiing days which are great. Anything fleecy to cover your mouth and nose would be good. When it gets that cold we all look like zombies when we're wrapped up anyway. I think a lot of the outdoor camping/hiking shops have a lot of winter boots on sale at the minute.
  13. Haa Haa I just tentatively asked my husband if the cars had antifreeze in them and if our pipes were lagged, admittedly I didn't say why, because I'd just get laughed at, but instead of an answer I got an ear bashing about how over the top I am. Hmmmmmmm........... time will tell. I'm really willing this to happen now.
  14. Thin Layers are great and lots of them. If you've got thermals, even better, if not tights/leggings under trousers etc but a good waterproof winter jacket, gloves, scarf and hat etc, are a must oh and waterproof boots with a good grip. It all sounds a bit over the top but having been to New York recently, the biting wind could cut you in half, even our faces needed to be covered. Cold weather gear is pretty cheap online at the mo if fancy splashing out.
  15. OK, so is it safe to start getting excited yet? I've been feeling pretty proud of myself, I've held off all winter, for the first time ever, so no disappointments, which is great but doesn't make up for the lack of snow. This was going to be the year that I wasn't going to get sucked in. Do I give in at this late stage? Do I risk having to wipe copious amounts of egg off my face yet again? Well I'm thinking I will indulge just a little bit and see where it leads, BUT I WILL NOT be sharing with family and friends until some of you more knowledgeable guys go first, then I'll follow. So under cover, I'm going to prepare for prolonged cold and snow. I will stock up on essentials, tinned food etc and keep them hidden and if not needed, I'm sure they will last until the next time we see charts like this in 10 years time. So what do you reckon guys, is it safe to come out of hiding?
  16. Yes, I'm roughly the same age as you and I remember it well. Living on Dartmoor, we had lying snow for weeks and I remember driving through tunnels of snow high up on the moor, after the snowploughs had been through and the walls of white were feet above the top of the car. An incredible sight and the most snow I've ever seen in this country. Mind you I do live in the SW so that's probably not saying much.??? I do remember feeling really sad for all the poor animals stuck on the moor though. The last 'real' snowfall in my garden that didnt look like dandruff was 8 years ago. Surely we deserve a break?
  17. I love reading your posts in this thread Knocker, so informative, even if I don't always like where the models are heading. The MOD thread is way too intelligent for me ??? and will obviously have more focus on the longer term output. It's great to read someone's thoughts on the shorter term prospects. Keep them coming.
  18. Stunning, sparkly, frosty day here. My next favourite after snow. No snow to wake up to here but cars coming across from Callington, East Cornwall area have a light covering. They seem to be doing well this week by SW standards. ???
  19. Haa haa we should be so lucky, it looks more like knats dancing in the summer sun
  20. Dandruff here on lower Dartmoor. Not a bad enough case to warrant 'Head 'n' Shoulders.
  21. We were given a sledge a good few years back made by BMW. It's quite a monster. Never been used ??, we also have a couple of big bags of salt in the garage never been used and also a snow shovel never been used ???
