  1. Yet another poor summer in the unprecedented run of dross since 2007. Partially redeemed by August which had above average sunshine despite being wet. June and July were disgusting except for the fortnight I was out of the country. Temperatures were a joke. Not as far below average as 2007, 2011 and 2012 but the lack of high temperatures was ridiculous with 21C not reached during the 2nd half despite the sunny August. Rainfall was the worst aspect. Since the run of filth began in 2007 only 2013 has been drier than average and only 2007, 2011 and 2012 were wetter than this summer. Mean Max: 17.0C (-0.5C) Mean Min: 9.7C (-0.4C) Rainfall: 245.2mm (150%) Sunshine: 486.0 hrs (97%)
  2. Can't get one decent day in this rotten stinking summer. Not one day when it doesn't cloud up and/or rain Not reached 21C since 12th July and there hasn't been a day with 12 hours sun since 11th June. Stunningly awful especially considering May failed to produce a 12-hour sun total for the first time in nearly 40 years. It just shows the persistence of dire weather over the past 3 1/2 months making this one of the worst ever extended summer periods.
  3. Lowest here has been 13.7C on the 20th. 18th July 2012 managed only 11.5C and three other days in that vile month had a max of 12C as did 10th July 2008. Undoubtedly it is these types of disgustingly cold days that are becoming more frequent in summer. Certainly not heatwaves.
  4. More acceptable levels of sunshine the past few days with the wind coming from the SW and has just saved this month from being the dullest of the year to date, but just in time for the weekend the vile NW/SE winds return bringing more miserable depressing cool grey muck. Absolutely ridiculous. The weekends just get more and more awful each summer and another dismal write-off on the way. Not one dry weekend all of last summer, for the first time ever, and this one looks like following suit. Not one weekend day has even managed 10 hours sun this summer and the best this month is a pathetic 7.5 hours which was beaten by 24th January. Ghastly beyond words and it was mostly evening sunshine as well. No Sunday has even achieved 5 hours sun this month An absolutely terrible rotten stinking July in a run of summers that easily tops the 60s efforts for being utterly soul destroying, miserable and revolting in the extreme.
  5. 118.4mm of rain now this month making it my wettest summer month on record with a third of it still to go. Absolutely revolting. It's 12.2C at the moment in the middle of the afternoon in what should be the warmest time of the year Putrid and beyond depressing. I wish I could hibernate for the rest of this ghastly soul destroying season. Just detest summer nowadays. It's changed beyond recognition since 2007. Even winter 2013/14, except for the last fortnight of January, was more pleasant than this.
  6. The Brogdale record was clearly shown to be over-inflated garbage by Philip Eden and Stephen Burt and it's a disgrace it's accepted as legitimate. This falls in to the same category. All readings taken at airport heat islands are nothing but junk and I certainly have no interest in them.
  7. This July is reminding me of 2012. An unmitigated horror show. Grey depressing cloud day in day out. No sunny days just grey skies and drizzle/rain likely every day this revolting week. Temperatures well below average again. One of the worst ever July's in one of the worst ever summer's. It seems it could even end up the dullest month of the year so far. Just a sick joke and another summer month so awful it begs the question "What the hell is happening to our weather?" Just absolutely ridiculous. It now no longer seems to matter what direction the weather is coming from there is stubborn cloud that just won't clear Suffice to say that over the past decade summer has been relegated from my most favourite season to my most detested. It is hard to imagine there being another populated place on earth where the summers are as grim and disgusting as the hell we have to endure here since 2007
  8. Yet another rubbish weekend. Both days were meant to have decent amounts of sunshine but were appallingly cloudy. Drizzly and cool now too. It’s just depressing beyond words. The last month has been atrocious. Horrifically cloudy with another dire week coming up. 30-day running sun total down to a dismal 121.6 hours (74% of average) compared to 135.6 hours for the 30 days to 12th February and rainfall has been almost double the average. The 2nd to 8th July was by far the wettest summer week in my records, with 77.8mm, beating the previous record of only 58.0mm for week ending 23rd June 2012. Pretty much assured that this will be the 8th summer out of 9 to be wetter than average. An absolutely lamentable run without precedent in modern records. Just when are we going to get out of this garbage pattern of sunny snowless winters followed by dull wet summers? Truly detestable and can’t think of a worse era to be living in for weather. It’s the absolute pits
  9. Cool nights and sunshine are important during September and October to get the best Autumn colours. Last Autumn was a vile, disgusting disaster and it is hard to imagine how this years could be any worse but you never can tell these days.
  10. Just come back from a fortnight abroad and while I was away we had the hottest day for 9 years with 27.3C and one of the most thundery periods on record with three storms in a week. Today I am back and what do I see outside. The same rotten ghastly iron grey NW'ly crud that I endured for a week prior to my departure that culminated in a dismal max of only 9.7C on the 24th June - the latest day for a single figure max since 1978. Temperatures not as bad as that today but still utterly abysmal at just 12.5C - 6C below average This is yet another dreadful summer with a poor outlook. Can't remember any other year with so few days where it was possible to sit outdoors. Even 2012 had more in March alone
  11. Vile and disgusting 2007/2012 abomination is how this summer is turning out. Just 6 hours of sun in the past week now -less than half the total of the dullest week of last winter Suffice to say if the current model output is anywhere near accurate this will go down as the worst ever second half of June. With seemingly no end to this permacast hell, the sunshine total for the second half of the month could be as low as 15-20 hours. A disgrace at any time of year Temperatures continuing at joke levels too. Just 11C now. Thankfully I'll be enjoying real summer in Ibiza in 16 hours time. Will be the first time I've experienced even 20C since being in Tenerife last November. Incredibly the last time I experienced it here was on 16th August as the only day to reach it since then (25th September) I was in Edinburgh. Just ridiculous and even the 1960s - the worst decade for warmth in the 20th Century - wasn't as grim as this.
  12. You'd think after the last two months it could only get better but it just seems to keep on getting worse and worse. Stupidly cold, dull and drizzly under the permacast which has been in place since Wednesday other than when it lifted for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. Just 10.1 hours sun now in the last week. The dullest of the entire year by a long way beating the previous total of 15 hours for 5th to 11th January. At the time of year with the longest daylight it is a sick joke and yet again begs the question what the hell has happened to our weather? Pig sick of enduring summer after summer with less sunshine than the winter months. There has not been such a dire run of summers as those experienced since 2007 at any time since the Little Ice Age. That's now five Junes in 9 years that have produced a spell of this excruciating permacast like nothing I could ever remember before. The outlook is so desperately poor it looks as though it will be two years on the trot when there has been relentless overcast for the second half of June.At least in 2014 we had some good weather at the start. This month has been more akin to 2007 or 2012 I even enjoyed last November more than this revolting June and that was the dullest month for 12 years. Says it all about how much I loath and detest this absolutely disgusting month that delivers gloom and misery year in year out and the worst weather always at the weekend. At least the few sunny days of last November coincided with the weekends.
  13. Dire sunshine levels this week and getting worse with each day. These have been the totals here this week: 4.9, 4.1, 2.5, 0.7, 0.1. No hope of any improvement as, just like last June, there is an endless conveyor belt of cloud that will only get switched off when the wind moves from the NW. So this depressing overcast is going nowhere soon I am now confident this vile month will produce the dullest week of the year so far. All that needs to happen is for the catastrophe of a weekend coming up to have less than 2.7 hours sun and this years record low total of 15.0hrs (5th-11th Jan) will be beaten. It's another awful June that will further extend the record breaking run, without reaching 200hrs sun, to 12 consecutive Junes. Absolutely disgusting. I can't remember any instances prior to 2005 where this putrid overcast stuck about like a bad smell day after day for a week or more with stupidly cold daytime temperatures. Not even in terrible summers like 1993 and 1998. Late July 2005 was about the first time.
  14. June permacast well and truly set in now. Little sunshine this week and all the models show for the next week is cloud, cloud and more cloud. Exactly the same gut-wrenchingly awful dross we were forced to endure this time last year and countless other summers since 2007, in particular 2007 and 2012. The worst spell of weather all year in another abomination of a summer month. This means yet another weekend from hell coming up. Post 2006 the summer solstice weekend has been the worst of the year without a doubt. Wouldn't surprise me if the winter solstice weekend averages more sunshine now Into the 2nd half of June and the warmest it has reached on any Saturday this year is 15.3C. Absolutely pathetic beyond words. It's a temperature that could be achieved at any time of year even mid-winter. Indeed, Sunday 26th January 2003 managed 17C. Apart from 18.7C on 5th April, it hasn't exceeded 15.3C on a Sunday either. It has also been the wettest day of the week by far this year. It seems this revolting month may even top last June for ghastly weekend weather. The four Saturdays of June 2014 aggregated a joke total of 6.8 hours sunshine. This month has had 4.9 hours on the 6th, a big fat zero for the 13th and current model output suggests another dire total for the 20th. Even June 2012 had two passable Saturdays (2nd and 30th).
  15. Still waiting for the first 20C of the year and because of the dire end to summer and autumn last year it has now been reached just once in 10 months (on 25th September). Shocking and the worst I can remember. It really does feel as though this year is going to have one of the lowest annual maximums on record
  16. It's a long term decline here. Average dropped from 12 days in the mid-19th century to 6 in the mid-20th century then to 3 in the late-20th century. Now it's as good as nothing at all which is incredulous given the wet summers. Not just thunder that's declined but heavy/convective rain in general. The very wet summers of the 1950s had average sunshine generally and lots of thunder/heavy downpours. Complete contrast to the horror shows of the last 8 years where the similar rain totals are made up from persistent frontal winter type light rain and drizzle and sunshine levels horrendous compared to the 50s summers. Just a warmer version of the Faeroes climate.
  17. Still waiting. Only made 19.6C yesterday. Dyce apparently reached 20.8C despite the highest hourly reading being only 19.1C. Perhaps next week but no chance for now with the customary subarctic hell arriving just in time for the weekend
  18. Awful start to summer as usual. Typical post-1998 nightmare. The increase in pressure has not made an iota of difference. The same nagging NW'ly is present, same 10am cloud up and it was even raining with pressure of 1036mb. Not just a trivial amount either. Any other month it would be dry but it doesn't matter what synoptics you get in this vile month these days. The weather is always dire As usual the weekends seeing the worst of the weather with next weekend looking like a complete write-off on top of the poor one just gone. Just 11C forecast. Absolutely sick of it. At least between 2007-12 we tended to good weekends in spring but this year and last year they have been horrific throughout.
  19. Highest here a pathetic 19.0C last Friday and it was only reached in late afternoon. Morning and early afternoon saw temperatures around 11-12C. Just ghastly and there's no sign that it will be improved upon. In 2013 it did not reach 20C until the last day of June. Records for the Aberdeen area show that the last time it wasn't reached until July was in 1932.
  20. Yet another awful Sunday filled with cool, showery and windy NW'ly garbage. Ridiculously bad it's barely in double figure now at only 10.7C This chronic run of bad Sunday's is beyond a joke and already signs that next Sunday is looking a washout. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn1681.gif Typical horror show post-2006 summer weekend chart 9th November 2014, with almost calm conditions and sunshine was a far nicer than any Sunday of the last 2 months and that was in an extremely wet November which was the dullest month for 12 years. I would go as far as to say it was more pleasant than any day since 24th April which says it all about how stinking awful the past 6 weeks have been. Before next Sundays washout all there is to look forward to a cloudy rotten drizzly high. Can write this vile month off as a disaster already. Another catastrophe to add to all the other bottom of the barrel Junes this century. Can't emphasise how much I loath this month. Would rather have a year of 12 November's than 12 June's
  21. Weekend was looking glorious now it's looking like more mediocre dross. Didn't manage a single dry weekend last summer and had one all spring. To rub salt in to the wounds the latest GFS shows high pressure slap bang over the UK the following week only to be replaced by more disgusting rubbish in time for the weekend of the 13th/14th It is incredulous and just getting as bad as Shetland here, struggling to get any remotely warm temperatures or dry weather for even a couple of days never mind a prolonged spell. So glad I decided to take an early summer holiday this year. Will be going abroad in June for the first time ever. Should have done this years ago as this really is the vilest month of the year nowadays. Every year the weekends are like something out of a horror movie set in perpetual November
  22. It has been atrocious. Measurable rain on 28 days since 24th April, plus 6 trace days giving just 6 completely dry days out of 40 It's not even as though there have been many night time only rain events. Every day practically follows the same pattern. Starts sunny, cloud builds up by 10am then it rains on and off the rest of the day. The last day to record 12 hours of sun was 21st April. Temperatures rarely much warmer than average with a nasty nagging cold NW wind. Barely more than a couple of passable days. Have taken trips down to Fife the last 2 weekends, just to get away from it as it is much more sheltered from the NW wind there. It is the wind which is the standout feature. Just no respite from it at all. Every day it's blowing like it's October
  23. Very light and bright here now at 9:45pm and last night was still reasonably light at 10pm despite being cloudy. The only thing preventing me from reading outside is the freezing cold wind and a temperature of 7.5C
  24. An atrocious 21 days with measurable rain here plus 4 trace days making it one of the most dire and unsettled May’s on record. It wouldn’t surprise me if some places in North Aberdeenshire, more exposed to the unceasing vile NW winds, had measurable rain every single day. It was the 8th May out of 10 with above average rain days, fitting with my belief that we can now expect worse than average weather 80% of the time instead of just 50%. It was the windiest May I can recall with zero days of calm/light winds. Average pressure was below 1010mb for the fifth May since 2000 compared to just 11 times in 138 years from 1862-1999, again showing how our weather is getting worse and more low pressure dominated. Lack of warmth was terrible with the lowest monthly max since 1983 and several cold days in the first half. Maxes were near average in the 2nd half but temps went into single figures during the near daily soakings and in any case even seemingly acceptable temperatures felt cold because of the unseasonably strong wind. The Sunday weather was ridiculously bad with 29.8mm of rain – nearly 40% of the well above average monthly total - falling across the 5 days and just 14.5 hours sun. Ghastly and worse than you’d expect at any time of year never mind what is supposed to be the best time of year. Sunshine total was nowhere near as bad as last May, at 95% of average, but a lot of it was wasted as the horrid NW pattern meant it was typically clear from 5am to 9am then cloudy with showers until the evening. Least amount of sunshine on the sunniest day since 1979 – just 11.7 hours. Two very poor May’s with bad weekend weather on the trot now. It seems that the execrable summer patterns of 2007-12 are now spreading further into the year which is depressing in the extreme.
  25. June is a very poor month these days. My least favourite month of the year. There hasn't been an outstandingly good one here since 1970 and the last really good one was in 1996. Since then only 2003 and 2013 have been passable. We've had to endure some of the wettest and/or dullest on record (1997, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2014) with June 2012 close to being the coldest as well. It's just shocking that only one June in the last 18 years has managed to achieve the 1921-50 sunshine average. It used to be sunniest month of the year but hasn't been since 1996 and hasn't been sunnier than May since 2003. Even last year with May's appalling sunshine total June still managed to be duller, and by a significant margin. Looks like June 2015 is going to get off to a terrible start with rain and maxes of 11C forecast further adding to the 500-hour plus summer sunshine deficit since 2007 as well as continuing a horrendous 5-weeks of relentlessly unsettled weather. I truly despair at how awful our weather has become this century and it's a toss-up between June and August as to which month has deteriorated the most
