  1. Despite the lack of snow here in the south side of Glasgow I have actually enjoyed this spell of cold weather. Yes, I would have loved to have seen more snow and who wouldn't have in the west? I don't begrudge it when I hear of fellow kilters enjoying snow as I know the joy it can bring to fellow posters and family. The models have been all over the place and By-Tor summed the whole spell up very nicely and said sod the forecasts/models and concentrate on now casting. Maybe not his exact words but you get the gist. We have had warnings when they were not warranted and no warnings when they were. Those of you who missed out and I include myself in that crowd. Your time will come. Might not be this winter but it will. We live in a complex and beautiful country that can't please everyone under one set of synoptics. Enjoy what you have even if you don't like it and if you don't then you don't have far to travel seek out what the majority of us all crave! Bring on the next cold spell.
  2. Sleet here a mile east of the city centre at 13m asl. Hoping it turns a bit more white as the heavy band approaches. I can see the Eaglesham Moors slowly being obscured by the rain/sleet/snow. Delete as applicable.
  3. Beaker is the same age and has chased rain drops down the window so hope he will be interested in the snow as well. Probably not technically a kitten as he is 10 months(?) and is huge compared to our departed cat. He is so big my wife has nicknamed him 'Pieface'! It is is almost as if Glasgow has a pincer movement in the snow from the east and and that from the SW. Pincer quicker!
  4. Photo is of my cat Sasha (rip) on lamp post duty in the height of the March 2006 snowstorm. Anyone else have pets that do the same? Hoping that my kitten Beaker will break his lamp post duck with some snow later on this evening. Really want him to experience some snow and nothing to do with me wanting some... Looking good for the snow making it west. Fingers crossed. The lamp post in the photo is at the same height as our living room as we are raised above the road. Can sit on my couch with beer in hand and watch the snow. Hope those of you in Ayrshire see some snow soon!
  5. Through work I deal with a guy who has a seven year old in a primary school in North London. Due to the cold and snowy weather the kids have been told they are not to throw snowballs. Just to cover themselves even more the school have even forbidden the kids from touching the snow in the playground! I'm not making this up!
  6. Worried about the lack of Severe Weather Warning (just now and in the future) from the Met Office in your area for snow? Couple of questions for you. Have you ever had NO snow from a SWW for snow? Have you ever had snow with NO SWW for snow? The answer for me to both questions is YES and I'm guessing I won't be alone!
  7. I usually lurk but I do remember posting one of my first posts on that day. In hindsight it was harsh that he resigned but his Newsnight Scotland interview was his own goal. "A first class response to difficult condition" was a quote from that interview that sticks out. Hundreds of people at that very moment were stuck on the mate including one of our artists The Phantom Band who were trying to get to Edinburgh Airport for a gig in Berlin. Thankfully while stuck on the mate the taxi driver agreed not to keep the meter running. On a personal note that snowfall was the deepest snowfall since I moved to the southside of Glasgow. I think it was about 7 inches. Though I have to say the snowfall on the 30th of November was even better for different reasons. Day off work with the wife and went to our local pub. Got a call from my Dad saying that he had received a letter the Inland Revenue saying I had a cheque for £300. I cycle to work and have been dodging squirrels on my way to work this week. Don't usually see any. Must be something afoot...Is there a squirrel model available?
  8. Still rain here! Roughly 70m asl so generally higher than a mile away from the city. Warm sector? Looked like I might have had a bit of sleet. Looking forward to my cycle to work in the morning.
  9. Sled is in the garage for an MOT and my husky looks well p*ssed off.
  10. Rain here in the south of Glasgow. Falling onto a frozen surface. If I had a dog I would not take it out for a walk just now.
  11. Anyone else caught the local BBC video online forecast for today? Makes for an entertaining watch. You might have to be quick before they notice and sort it. Think someone on the editing floor has been today! http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/6
  12. It was quite light though getting slightly heavier on a brisk Easterly wind (what is this wind thing?). Flakes should be with you soon if they are not already.
  13. Just started snowing in the South Side of Glasgow.
