Just looked at the US current outbreak of severe weather and realized that the storms would stretch from Jersey all the way to the Shetland Islands if they were magically transported here. I would be a liar if I saw storms like those and said I wasn't jealous, people will tell you that you shouldn't wish for storms like those but if they naturally occur what is the difference between hate and love? Surly if people in those areas loved thunderstorms and they paid attention to the weather then surly less people would be caught out and ultimately die?

Anyone confirm snow? it shows on Netweather radar but when I am looking out its just rain.

The last two days forecasts have been spot on about thunder but today's forecast was naff. Only a few sferics dotted around the SE today with just a couple of heavy bursts of rain! Nice storm over Berlin currently though.

Check out this Tornado in Iraq today, looks pretty violent. There were two at one point as well.

I found this an interesting read, Lightning frequency in Europe.
http://www.vaisala.com/Vaisala%20Documents/Scientific%20papers/2014%20ILDC%20ILMC/ILMC-Friday/Anderson%20and%20Kluggman-A%20European%20lightning%20density%analysis-2014-ILDC-ILMC.pdf
Its funny how in 2012 that one event during the Olympic relay was notable because it gave the UK a huge boost in lightning density.- 1

I can see that cell over NE London from here, looks like its getting more and more organized.

Check out this tornado in Belgium yesterday.
And a waterspout that turned into a tornado in Northern Spain, did some damage to trees.

I found a live cam from Groningen.
http://www.groningencam.nl/
The storms not there yet but there are a strange number of people out on bikes at quarter past 12 on a Tuesday lol -
Look at those storms in northern Netherlands, lets hope the UK can muster up a few good ones this year. Amazing how we are only 20 miles away from those countries and we can only muster up a few heavy showers with a few flashes mixed in. It can't really be the channel can it?
Anyone have any links to live cams in that area? -
Shotgun thunder here about 10 mins ago! it was insane as I wasn't expecting anything and caught me by surprise.

We have about 2 to 3cm of snow lying on hard surfaces and a slight covering on the grass, Its really nice but doubt it will last long.
-
Got a slight coating on my grass and wheelie bins but appears to be melting quite quickly.

Snowing steadily here, not settling though, just making the ground wet.
-
The ground is still dry here even though I can feel light precip in the air. Would love some proper snow but our position on this planet means its a rarity despite our latitude, our longitude positioning kills everything apart from wind and rain lol.

I am watching the Vikings Vs Seahawks game in the US and they are playing in -14c with a feels like temperature of -31c!!! woah!! Lets see what this week has in store for us, no where near those temperatures but I would love to see some snow though.
-
had an intense burst of rain here about an hour ago, with hail. I was looking out for lightning but nothing, not even a distant flicker.
-
Don't shoot me over this, but unless we get a prolonged period of below average temperatures then I would like it to stay milder without all of this rain please, I love cold and snow as much as the next guy but if the weather stays warmer I think the sea temperatures will stay up giving us more of a chance of importing surface based storms from the continent in the summer. I like surface based storms because they can really put out the booming thunder, I had quite a few storms last year (only over two nights but had 7 sequentially) all were high base and the thunder wasn't as violent (but the lightning was very frequent the most frequent I think I have ever seen in the UK). I am not even sure if it even matters what temperatures we get down to in the winter but for some reason I feel like they have a correlation. In December 2010 it got down to -14c here and the summer of 2011 was an atrocious year for storms. Maybe I'm wrong who knows?

Wind really picked up and the rain is lashing down now, the squall has just gone through.

Any falling snow is better than the past 2 years of no snow. haha

Feels much cooler out there today. Have seen sleet reports from people in Ireland and Northern England.
When I took the dogs out this morning it was 7c and it felt quite chilly. Beautiful morning though, now its raining.

Anyone know what might cause rain to not show up on the radars? Its raining here but when I looked on radar there was nothing.

Wow, how incredible, unfortunately this means flooding for Yemen and maybe Saudi Arabia. I have never even heard of storms in that part of the world before, I wonder if its something to do with the strong El Nino?
