    A very wintry night to come, i think most parts of the NE should see a fair bit of snow away from the extreme coastal fringes,dew points sub zero- should be some impressive totals by this time tomorrow especially inland.

    Give it a chance, the showers should pep up as the wind veers more easterly, this evening and overnight looking good.

    Indeed, the coming weekend is as far as anyone should be looking, beyond then and anything really could happen, the models are all over the place and obviously struggling with the current patterns.

    It was indeed a remarkable winter for snow here in the north east rollo, never seen anything even close to it since, i remember even at the time i was around 13 years old, and thinking this is a one off.

    The thing is SF can rememember such spells, for what its worth 79 was the daddy of all winters from my memory.

    Sorry if I upset anyone, I just take this kind of thing personally, as you all know. John H. is an excellent poster, I just feel stronger than he, as an experienced ex-MetO employee does, that the MetO incorrectly called my region of the world. Why would you take a long range forecast personally? its really not that important you know, its just an educated guess at what might occur, nothing personal.

    It looks like being the coldest winter since the last cold one, everything points to this.

    Touched 25.2 here today, and 24.4 yesterday, which make those newcastle readings yesterday seem very strange.

    Btw....up where I live; Teesside Airport has a very notable affect on temps in winter and summer. And no, its not a big airport. Any facts or figures to back Any of that up?

    For a start thats for dublin, also there are strong signals of northern and eastern blocking prevailing.

    Showers are very slow moving, if you get one it should last a while.

    I agree, these synoptics are as rare as hens teeth! reminds me very much of the late seventies/early eighties.

    As i alluded to earlier, stick a block to our East, the models struggle.
