May have a look out for this, I'm close by and told mum there may be storms later, she also see it on the forecast but said the sky looks fine right now, would be interesting to show her a mammatus, I can't remember the last time I witnessed one
What direction are you looking?
It was to my west, possibly over the laindon area. It's since dissipated but signs of Undulatus appearing now, if it develops further I'll get a pic but it's very sporadic and short lived!

I may have misread the forecast but I thought storms would come from north east france and belgium and track northwestwards towards the uk?
The trend is north easterly so from north east France and Belgium they would end up in Holland

Just checked the sky a few mins ago as I was eating (my curtains in my bedroom are drawn shut all day due to me being photosensitive and the daily migraines that brings which can complicate matters while sky watching in this hobby!) and even as I ate ac started to build up out of nowhere. Theres a nice shelf cloud to my west also.
It certainly looks very moody out there. Low level very dark Cumulous and signs of Mammatus developing here from nothing!!

People with more knowledge than me (ie, everyone), is it worth basing myself around the SE Mids tonight and waiting to see what arrives from the south? Seriously thinking about chasing tonight and I'm a stones throw from the M1 south
In the interest of not blowing too much money on fuel I would be heading towards Kings Lynn. Going due South might not produce anything.
Basically we're currently looking at a slice drawn between the IOW to the NE and eastwards anywhere along that line.

That's all folks, maybe a few stray sferics in NW Kent but time for bed. It's been a blast!!

Did anyone just hear that mahoosive thunder in Basildon? That was a gift from god!!
-
The Basildon storm hasn't given up yet. Still masses of vertical rain and just now a huge CG and shotgun thunder. Gotta love nature!

The storm over Basildon is moving very slowly. It was raining across the street and took several minutes before it reached my side to the South. Another IC flash and several rumbles while typing this reply!
-
Locally it's tracking S/E. It might even make it to Gravesend/Sittingbourne. Very active with 2 strikes per minute and some great thunder!
-
Definitely an elevated storm, mostly IC lightning and long deep continuous rumbling thunder. Reminds me of my wife and again, flash bang as I type!!
-
Regular flashes and thunder now, all points between here and Southend are in for a treat!!
-
Nice CG flash just to my North East
-
That new cell south of Harlow has my name on it. Winds locally moving S/E, very moody and impressive looking skies
Edit to add: Now the sky has turned pink!!!!!
-
Minor thunderstorm passing Basildon now heading East. 4 flashes and 2 rumbles and brief but heavy rain.

It's dragging its heels for sure. Not so quick and could dump a lot a water in a short time. I'm expecting it to arrive in the next hour, hopefully it will still be electrified!

Hi, what I meant was do you have a gizmo that tells you if a strike in - or + or are you saying it's - or + based on the way the strike looks, or ?
I see lightning, but can not be absolutely sure if it was a positive or negative strike, or can you tell the difference just by the way the strike looked ?
Did you read the article? It explains the visual differences between the types..

Didn't see that coming, maybe a glitch!
