Cold Weather can get in the bin now! It's nice having a weekly electric bill under £20, with the cold weather it was averaging £80 a week!
People that love the cold must be loaded or live in houses with triple double glazed and own there home.
I rent and have single pane widows with storage heaters (No Gas) the EPC was borderline E when the last one was done, none of the recommendations have been actioned as i asked the estate agents, so it will possibly be a G in 2025.... Note to anyone moving do so in the winter, you can tell if the house is gonna be cold or not!!
So please no more cold weather!!

The Telford area is certainly interesting and I've given it the nickname: shower magnet. Often sees more showers, storms and snow than others.
Here it's more of a storm shield, pushing the showers and thunderstorms out of the way
Defiantly not a storm magnet! I lived there all my life ( only recently moved to Albrighton due to a marriage breakdown) in the last 5 years think i saw about 4 storms in that time, i remember a couple of years ago they were heading towards Telford then just diverted and hit Brum seemed to be a pattern of most summers!

Still nothing.
Think we have been the 2 unlucky people in this group during this cold spell!!

Lots of reports of snow in nw thread
photos too , at relatively low levels also
middle of day to boot ,
could we catch some later
I would fully expect it to rain here while it hammers down with snow 10 miles down the road at a lower level

Had about 1 CM of lying snow. Its pretty much all gone from this morning. I am 100M same as where i lived in Telford, my mom said she has about 8cms in the garden. it is so weird that somewhere just 10 miles away can have so much more snow.

Yet here today has been a really good event and December was utter rubbish, Jan we had a little bit but mostly missed it. It's weird- hard to see how Albrighton (presume it's the one east of Telford) would have missed out when Shrewsbury, Telford and the Black Country for once all had a decent fall
That's what I don't understand, when I was sharing the pictures with work, one lives in Shrewsbury, 2 in Telford and 1 in Stoke, they all had pretty good accumulations, then I shared mine and they couldn't believe how little snow I had!

Saw nothing in Dec, decent on 18/19 Jan, this event similar to that snow wise
December is the only real snow event this winter, the 18/19th missed me and this one, well seen more white stuff on the floor after my lad got hold of the talcum powder

Patchy slush all gone. Rubbish cold spell here. Milder air and rain/sleet hasn’t even arrived yet.
Some areas were in the sweet spot ( i move from Telford and they get a dumping, when for the last few years i missed the snow events) , i m looking out my window now and its like what is the fuss about, they closed the schools for this

Not sticking here, it looks more sleety than anything, oh well! Roll on some warmth!!

Thats the problem with forcasting snow, its just a fine edge. If the margins change just a fraction its game over. It would not surprise me if we didn't see anything around here.
Personally I just want it to warm up now, sick of paying out most of my wages of electricity!!!

Very fine stuff here, just blowing around.

I for one am not looking forward to any prolonged cold spell, i never thought I would say this but I am now no longer a cold weather fan.
Just costs too much to keep your place warm!
The weather the past few days has been lovely!
Freezing temperatures means a return to wearing 5 layers of clothes in my flat as I can't afford to put the heating on!
Gone are the times of enjoying the cold with the energy prices as they are!!

I’m sure that government guidelines for rental accommodation states that double glazing should be the minimum standard? Might be worth checking with your local council or citizens advice bureau
Borderline E. I have double glazed in the bathroom and Kitchen, but Bedroom and living room single. the guidelines are if you are an E you dont need to change it... So is legal!
You can rent out a property that has single glazing as long as the energy rating of the property is higher than an ‘E’. There are some exemptions to this, though. Now, unless there are other energy efficiency items in place, a property with single glazing will have a difficult time reaching an ‘E’ rating.

I used to be a fan of cold weather, but a £400 electricity bill in December (storage heaters...) has me looking in fear of a prolonged cold spell. Living in a flat with single pane windows is no fun (landlord wont change them and already gave me a warning for using shrink-wrap to do homemade glazing.)
So for the 1st time in my life i am really hoping any cold spell is short.

My 10 year old summed it up yesterday, he said he cannot remember the last time he heard thunder and asked why is was so rare
I said its just where we live, other places get it, then went on about the Shropshire storm shield which he said, is that real. Bless!
